Lake Hiwassee – A Hidden Gem

Nestled in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, Lake Hiwassee is 93% U.S. Forest Service land, making it one of the region's most private and pristine lakes. Known for record-breaking fishing (a state-record 66-pound striped bass was caught here!), this lake is perfect for:

Great communication with owners, and very clean home. All the stocked items you could ever need. The stairs have been redone since our last stay and it is definitely an enhancement. We loved our trip!

We had a great experience at the Dock Holiday property on Lake Hiawassee. The property was very clean and everything was as described in the listing. Comfy beds, nice towels and linens and well stocked kitchen. Nice view of the lake from the deck and the lake itself is absolutely gorgeous. We went up for a weekend fishing trip. The kayaks and canoe were all well kept and we made use them. We caught a few fish, not as many as we would have liked but we can’t blame that on the hosts. The walk down to the water is a lot of steps but it is well maintained and not too step. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Lake house

The home was beautiful, clean, and welcoming. Beds were comfortable and every room was spacious. We enjoyed our short stay and the kids really enjoyed fishing. Would recommend this place to everyone!

Long weekend family getaway

What a wonderful stay at Jessica's lake house. The house was clean and had almost everything we needed. The lake view was beautiful and just a short walk down the back stairs outside. The rooms were comfortable and there was plenty of space for the 4 of us. Just be sure to bring any groceries/food you need as the nearest grocery store is more than 30 min away.

We had a great time. Very nice house and we had plenty of room for our family of 9.. it was a long walk down to the water but the kids didn’t mind. The adults just stayed on the porch.

Perfect Lake house

This was our 2nd stay in Bear Paw, but our 1st in the Dock Holiday home. It was amazing being right on the water, where we spent most of our time fishing and jumping off the dock. Make sure you have EVERYTHING before you head down to the water, because walking up the stairs was rough haha. The hosts were great with communication!! Plenty of space for the 6 adults and 3 kids. Sitting on the deck watching boats go by while grilling was amazing & relaxing. We rented a boat from the marina, went gem mining, visited Field of the Woods, & fished a lot at the Hiwassee damn. We will be returning to this beautiful Lakehouse!!

Absolutely stunning!

We decided to travel from New Hampshire to North Carolina to visit friends and rented this Lakehouse. The house was absolutely stunning, well appointed, clean and had plenty of space to have our friends over for dinner and to visit. They did not stay overnight due to children in school and their schedules, however the house would’ve been plenty big enough if they had decided to stay. We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking. We even caught some fish. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we were able to go swimming and enjoy the sunshine. The 110 steps down to the water is easy, it’s 110 steps up to the house that remind me, I need to get back to the gym. Lol. The hosts were very responsive when booking and I have no doubt if we had any issues they would’ve been responsive. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at DockHolliday.

Loved the house and location

Overall this is a great place I give it a 9.5 out of 10 only thing it’s missing is a hot tub house and lake are beautiful I don’t suggest someone who has trouble walking going to the deck it’s a hike lol but we loved the house the walk to the lake was a reminder that we aren’t 20 anymore since we are all late 30s into early 40s with teenage kids but everyone had a great time!

Wonderful lake location with easy access to town or marina

Loved the balcony views! The grill was effortless and clean. We used the house as a base for exploring the area, so we were mostly out sightseeing during the day. We were amazed at the lack of mosquitos on the open deck--not one!

Wonderful property

Beautiful location, house was everything we needed very well stocked with bedding, towels, kitchenware. we had 7 adults and 4 children from 8mo to 8yrs and the house was perfect for all. We will definitely be back!!

Fantastic Property

I can not rate this rental high enough. It is exceptional. Very clean and updated. Clear beautiful water access. Everything you need for a great stay is there. The beds are also incredibly comfortable.

Perfect fall break getaway

This cabin was exactly what our family was looking for in our fall break getaway. We enjoyed the lake and kayaks the entire time. The cabin was also perfect for our large family, and it had everything we needed without having to ever leave. We enjoyed every moment of the quiet and solace and will definitely try to come back again.

The perfect lake vacation

Dock Holiday was everything we could ever want and more. The home is beautifully decorated with many updates. Our kids (8 & 13) loved that they had the whole bottom floor to themselves. The kitchen was fully stocked with every cooking appliance, pot, pan, gadget you could ever need. We were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather- cool mornings and evenings where we could utilize the fireplace and warm afternoons so we could still swim in the pristine lake. We grilled and enjoyed meals on the deck. I did contact the owners one time with a question about the fireplace and they were very quick to respond. You will probably not have cell service for calls and texts but they do have a land line you can use. They also have Wi-Fi for internet. We actually enjoyed not being glued to our phones so we could enjoy family time. The fishing around the dock is also very good. The one and only downside I will say is the walk to the lake is pretty strenuous but we were told about this when we booked. They have created a great path but it is steep. I got a much needed workout going up and down to the lake. We will definitely be back!

Amazing!

This place was just as advertised and the owners were friendly, responsive and accommodating! We traveled in from WNY with many kids, from young babies up to teenagers, and got there way earlier than normal check in time. For a very small super reasonable fee we were able to check in the moment we arrived, hassle free. We spent hours and hours in the warm beautiful lake water, cooked delicious meals in the kitchen and sat outside on the porch and played cards and caught up with family for hours, while the younger kids romped downstairs in their bunk bed den. We couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. Thank you!
