The Pond House At The Farm

The Pond House, built in the 1800’s, carefully maintained by its current owners creates a comfortable, affordable, rustic summer cottage. Many original features remain, including rough hewn beams and oak floors. This is an ideal family rental with lots of indoor and outdoor space to explore or relax.. The house is 100% solar powered. We have a Tesla charging station, free of charge.

The Pond House at the Farm accommodates 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 children. In some cases an extra person can be accommodated for a fee. Please inquire.

The oversized kitchen and kitchen island make meal prep convenient, and the large farm table easily accommodates five people. The living room/parlor comfortably seats the entire family and guests. Enjoy the sea breezes on the screened in porch leading out from the living room overlooking the farm pond.

Upstairs, you will find three bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom has a double bed, one has two twin beds, and one has a queen and a twin bed.

Take a walk to the water's edge, sit under the gazebo and relax, or watch the children at play on the swings. There’s always lots of peace and quiet around the Pond House.

If you would like to explore the small fishing villages on Schoodic Peninsula, take a drive to the National Park loop road just a few miles from the farm. There are hiking and biking trails at the Park, and lots of fun rock hopping on the point. Or travel up Route 1 and explore the small unspoiled harbor villages of “Downeast Maine”.

Perhaps you would enjoy taking the local ferry to Bar Harbor, where it’s likely you will see dolphins, eagles, seals, and a lighthouse on the way. Explore Bar Harbor and Mt Desert Island, visit the galleries and gift shops there, and return to a fresh fish or lobster dinner purchased right on the dock.

The Pond House will provide memories for years to come of your wonderful Maine vacation!

This was a great house overall. Plenty of space to cook and socialize, and having a laundry room was hugely convenient for our active group. The air conditioning/fans were more than sufficient for a mid-July heat wave. We could have used a few more kitchen supplies like a full set of measuring cups, solid cooking utensils, and more water glasses, but definitely not unusual for a vacation house. We spent lots of time in the screened in porch and the shared fire pit/barbeque area. The property manager helped immediately when we needed new gas for the grill, and the host was so responsive. A few things I would point out for future guests because they might be issues for some if unprepared. There are several houses on the property. They are oriented in a smart way so the house still felt completely private, but it might not be for everyone. It’s an old house with some very creaky floorboards and slightly scary stairs…you can hear where people are upstairs and what they’re doing pretty much throughout the rest of the house. Curtains in some of the bedrooms were lacking, which for summertime in Maine meant sun from before 5am all the way to about 9pm. Tough for the late riser and light-sensitive crowd, so we figured out some creative solutions. Schoodic/Acadia (and the ferry and shuttle) are very accessible, but the property itself doesn’t offer much for walking around; you are dependent on a car for activity beyond the front door.

Christine was absolutely lovely and you can tell a lot of care is given to the space. Unfortunately it is the time of year for bugs and spiders to come inside so we had to clean up a bit during our stay, but that didn’t take away from our wonderful experience.

Relaxing get away

Pond House is in a very relaxing, rural setting that is well within travel distance to wine and cider tasting, shopping/whale watches/events in Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Schoodic Point, and Winter Harbor. The house comes with some older house quirks but provides a cozy place to gather and relax.

This place was great. Comfortable and convenient, well-maintained, and close to Acadia National Park...especially the Schoodic Peninsula, which is the less crowded, and possibly even more beautiful, part of the park.Booking was very easy, and Christine was very responsive to our questions and requests...her assistant even made a special tip over with some extra trash bags for us when we ran out. And Christine's suggestions for restaurants, sites to see, services etc were very good. We are already planning on a return trip!

Our stay at the Pond House was wonderful and we were sad to go. The home is welcoming and there are multiple hang out zones. We prepared dinner twice and found everything we needed. Christine’s list of recommendations was helpful and every place we went to from the list was lovely. Christine was prompt and helpful. Highly recommend!!

Cozy Farmhouse on Beautiful Grounds

The Schoodic Peninsula is lovely to explore in the fall. Great hiking and biking in Acadia. Remarkably great restaurants. The farmhouse is cozy and the grounds are both beautiful and beautifully maintained. On a quiet road. The stars and aurora were an extra gift.

Nicer than expected!

Nice modern bathrooms & kitchen in a cute farmhouse kind of property. The screened in porch overlooking the pond is awesome for morning coffee. Nice big dining table for lobster feasts or playing games of which there was a nice selection. I loved the meditation circle & gazebo styled seating area outside & plentiful couches inside. Would absolutely stay here again!

Trip to Acadia

We absolutely loved staying in this idyllic setting outside of Acadia National Park. We were prepared to drive the 40 to 60 minutes each day just to be in a nice quiet spot at the end of each day. Christine was very responsive. We were greeted with a fresh blueberry pie upon our arrival, which shows that she goes the extra mile. We loved our stay.

Beautiful and quaint old farmhouse near Schoodic part of Acadia National Park. Rustic elements preserved with modern updates to bathrooms and kitchen. Lovely covered porch/sun room. Plenty of comfortable places to lounge. Gorgeous, peaceful grounds, has fairy tale feel. Very responsive property manager. Sweet welcome basket upon arrival. Best suited to physically able folks due to various floor levels and steep stairs. Bed/mattress comfort could use improvement. Overall, we loved our stay here! Bonus: farm stand on property sells most amazing fresh blueberry pie - we are still dreaming of it!

Picturesque

First time to Maine! Group / family vacation celebrating our mom’s 70th birthday was fabulous! We had plenty of room for everyone to spread out! Absolutely loved the property, quiet location, and charm. The deck was the perfect spot to watch the meteor shower and enjoy each other’s company after days spent exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. Christine was excellent about responding to our questions and provided us with terrific local information and suggestions. Looking forward to our next visit!

Peace and Serenity on the Farm

This is a wonderful property and very well maintained. Our family had an amazing time enjoying Acadia, the Schoodic Peninsula, area trails and state parks. The kitchen is truly designed for foodies and we cooked tons of seafood with fresh produce from Darthia next door. There are plenty of family games and children’s books for a rainy day. Family Vaca

First of all the pictures don’t do this place justice. It’s so pretty, quiet, and relaxing. Christine was so wonderful checking in to make sure our long trip up was going smoothly. When we walked in she had candles lite, fresh lilac flowers, and a warm blueberry pie waiting for us. The kids loved adventuring and playing on the play set outback. It’s close to the Acadia National park and we got to visit Schoodic point. Will be booking this in the future.

Serenity at its best

The weather didn’t cooperate while we were there and we lost power for a brief. However, both Christine and Heath (Maintenance Engineer) we’re on it! They made sure we were cared for and had everything we needed. Great house, great support. I’m sure I’ll be back.

A Peaceful Retreat

The house was extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. We loved the screened in porch and the outdoor deck overlooking the pond. Our one minor complaint was that the kitchen equipment seemed a little sparse. I had trouble finding a baking pan and ended up using a cast iron skillet. A blender which was included in the description was missing and a replacement had not yet arrived. But overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.

A trip to the Maine countryside

The Pond House at the Farm was as advertised: Rustic old farm house with amenities. We had a large group but it worked well. Enjoyed the grill, hanging out, and playing games at the table. The wi-fi was spotty, but we weren't there for that. The oven/range is older and could use an upgrade, but we were comfortable. The property is peaceful and beautiful. Walked the trail to the bay several times and enjoyed seeing the tide at high and low intervals. Very little traffic so the farm feels secluded. Very lovely! Christine is a super responsive and accommodating host.

Peace and quiet

I stayed at this property with my husband and our two children aged 4 and 2 years old. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Lots of areas for the kids to play or look through books. We all loved time on the screen porch listening to frogs and birds and watching the horses in the back feild. The swing set and rock maze just outside our door were a quick and easy way to let the kids burn some energy. The fire pit and grill area looked like a perfect place to hangout though we didnt take advantage of them on this trip. The location was great for anyone looking for a quiet escape while still being close enough to busier areas to make day trips. We went to Bar Harbor one day for a nice lunch and some shopping. Another day we went to Acadia National park. Mostly we explored Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor. It was very easy to find a delicious meal or a spectacular view. Christine was very attentive and thoughtful. We couldn't ask for more. We would love to stay again.

Beautiful property, lovely home

This house was gorgeous and perfect for 4 adults. The pond in the backyard was beautiful & had adorable muskrat swimming in it. I loved watching them! There is a pasture beyond the pond that had beautiful horses in it. The home was built in the 1800s and is beautifully maintained with modern features as well. The kitchen is beautiful and fully stocked with everything you could need. The screened in porch was great as was the firepit area. There is plenty of seating in the cozy living room. The beds were very comfortable. The hostess was instantly available with all my questions during our stay. It reached the high 90s during our stay and the hostess immediately had a window a/c unit installed in one of the bedrooms. We had the entire property to ourselves but I believe there are other rentals on the same property (2 beautiful homes and a small unit within the home we rented.) If renting in the future, I'd want to know whether or not there would be others staying on the property as well.

Get away to rural Maine!

First of all, I must heartily commend the property manager, Christine and the handyman Heath. Their responsiveness, kindness, and knowledge of the rental and the area was amazing! We arrived very late (actually early morning at 2:00 AM due to traffic on drive from NC) and a bag of coffee and pecan pie were waiting for us on arrival. Very welcome, as we did not have a chance to shop for staples due to late arrival. Re: some comments about the isolation - yes, this is a REMOTE area, about 45 min from Bar Harbor, and very close to a more traditional Maine fishing village, Winter Harbor. THIS is what I wanted my Maine experience to be, and I got it. It is VERY close to the Schoodic penninsula part of Acadia, also what I wanted. I preferred this side of the park to the more populated main side. The property is old, but meticulously maintained, and definitely gives off a vintage ambiance. If this is not what you want, DO NOT BOOK HERE!! However, I did not understand that the house as pictured is not the entire rental - the small part to the left of the photo is a separate rental. And there is only one shower; the upstairs bathroom has a tub, not a shower. The pond was wonderful; I spent a lot of time sipping coffee and watching a very industrious beaver moving through the pond. There are even horses in the adjacent paddock that visit every morning! Overall, an amazing Maine experience, thank you for letting us use the property!

We would like to note that we certainly did not intend to mislead you regarding the en-suite room adjacent to the Pondhouse. Due to a difficult housing shortage for traveling nurses and other seasonal employees working in the area parks, we decided to rent out this space for the very first time. Of course, we did not anticipate any challenges. However, to avoid further confusion, we have decided not to rent that space in the future. We will make it available as an extra bedroom/bathroom suite only if future Pondhouse guests wish to reserve it. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Wonderful and Beautiful

We loved the peaceful setting. The screened in porch allowed us to enjoy being outside without the bugs. The beautiful landscape was inspiring. The owner gave many helpful suggestions about the area.

Fair

The property is peaceful. The house had a musty smell, many cobwebs and spiders. The floors were very crooked upstairs. Water pressure and temperature were poor in shower downstairs. I would not recommend this place to others. It was not convenient to things.

We are sincerely sorry that our farmhouse did not meet your expectations. The farmhouse, which is almost 200 years old, has been remodeled to provide the conveniences that today’s traveling guests should expect, but it does retain features of the era in which it was built. Many of our visitors find the unique qualities of this property charming and comfortable, including hand sawn beams, wide pine floorboards, and views of the farm-pond and pastures from most windows. Just a mile down the road from Route 1, the location offers a quiet respite from the busier, more crowded regions of the Maine coast, though are sorry that the location was too remote for your needs. Our contractor immediately responded to your complaint about water temperature, and our plumber quickly diagnosed the unanticipated problem and ordered the part to replace the malfunction and installed it. Certainly had we known there was an issue we would have corrected it before your arrival, but alas, that was not the case. We hope the rest of your vacation was restful and enjoyable.

Unique working farm getaway

Ever been awakened by a crowing rooster? I discovered there's no extra charge for that amenity at this unique Civil War-era farmhouse. This place has been thoroughly and meticulously updated within the last year. While leaving much of the 1860s post and beam construction timbers exposed, the rebuild included skylights, a marble shower and a huge and thoughtfully equipped kitchen, cookbooks included. This home overlooks a pond, complete with rowboat and fish. Not big fish, but big enough to be great fun for kids accompanied by an adult willing to help drown a worm. This place is a kid's paradise. Beyond the pond, there’s an elaborate playground complex next to a giant pergola with a huge fire pit (think: smores and ghost stories). Maybe 300 yards through a pasture is the North Atlantic shoreline, waves lapping on a rocky tidal bay. There's also a shoreline boathouse for storing your kayak or canoe. This vacation venue is neither elegant nor fancy. It’s a rare, family kick-back sort of place. No shortage of overstuffed chairs and comfy couches overlooking vistas onto the pond, the sunrise and the working farm that surrounds the place. Think horses, chickens, rabbits and other barnyard residents. This house sleeps a lot and feeds a lot, given a large and amazingly equipped kitchen and dining room suite. What intrigued me, as an ideal destination for one or more families, is the way this whole place has been carefully laid out over two levels, room after room, with more spaces around every corner. There are decks and a huge screened-in porch spread among lots of levels, lots of windows, lots of views. Great space for lots of family and friends, as there seems to be some place for everyone to be, or to go. Five stars, overall! Seven stars if at night, as the constellations and shooting stars above the dark skies of Downeast Maine are a wonder in themselves.
