NEW 2026! 8 years ago this was our Bear Paw site, we are now renting it again as Highland Cliff Haven! Updated pictures coming this spring.

The views are amazing and yet different for all of our locations, but this one is very special and we know you will love it!! This is our 9th property and we have well over a combined 350... 5 star reviews, we don't disappoint and know how important a great vacation experience is to a family.

3 Bed Room, 1 Bath. Full kitchen and Living Room, with lots of windows and fantastic views of the cliff and canyon. Kids can scramble around the 20 acres and let their imaginations run free.

Private spot very quiet and peaceful and we love to see pets join the vacation.

Lots of big windows to enjoy the canyon views throughout your entire stay.

Ac, stove, frig, microwave, fully supplied kitchen... All the comforts of home. Coffee pot is included, Keurig / Peculator combo.

Hot Tub and fire pit out front under a high covered patio, which makes for an amazing place to look over the valley, the cliffs and the STARS, expect to see the Milky Way and count shooting stars on our many clear nights.

Enjoy everything from beautiful sunrises to amazing sunsets. With over a thousand acre view over the old Edgemont - Hot Springs railroad bed winding through the canyon, with a sprawling valley beyond. Imagine the old Hot Springs spur railroad bringing in tourists to soak in the warm mineral waters over a 100 years ago.

This cabin is very well insulated 2 minisplits keeps it nice and cool in the hot summer... the nights cool down which makes opening the windows and sleeping with the sounds of the trees, very peaceful.

This site is pet friendly with a $30 pet fee... please select a pet during your search or at check out.

Non-Smoking in the house please.

Our stay was a 10/10! This property owner thought of it all….Any “extras” you could imagine were offered there plus more. Adorable, welcoming, clean, cozy cabin with plenty of space for our large family. We loved the fire pit, hot tub, coloring books & games as well as the extra treats. Super easy check in/check out, wonderful communication, quick/friendly response. You can’t beat the beautiful view from the back patio!!!

One of the family friendly surprises was the fenced yard. This is our second year staying here and the first time in this house. My granddaughter who is almost 2 loved playing in the yard. We went grocery shopping before checking in. The kitchen is supplied with everything you'll need to cook and serve. Well stocked spice cupboard. Which came in handy because I forgot to buy vanilla extract for baking and there was a bottle in the cupboard!This house is super cozy. Plenty of seating area, inside and out, and the beds were comfortable. There is one bathroom and it has a shower. There is a hottub for a relaxing soak. We brought plenty of toys for the toddler but she still wanted to play with the knickknacks that were within reach. There are supplies for pets, although we didn't bring our dogs, it's nice to have stuff there if you do. The hosts are friendly and responsive. We truly enjoy staying here. We usually come out during rally week. This time it was the week before, which was even better. I don't know if I'd ride a motorcycle on that hill though. It's gravel, steep, and about five switchbacks. I did see someone on a bike but I think he's a resident to that area. This is a great place to stay for a family or small group. It's very quiet, comfy, cozy and all good things! Enjoy.

This home is absolutely lovely. Very cozy, very clean, soft rugs, and the touch of s’more stuff was a wonderful surprise. They have thought of everything in this house. Would definitely stay here again.

Family friendly, out of the way, quiet location. The hosts sent a very detailed email with everything we needed to know and were quick to respond to questions. The hosts left s'mores goods for us along with a graciously stocked bathroom, fridge and pantry - including eggs! Definitely needs a deep cleaning. Dog friendly shouldn't mean dog hair on the bed linens, in the corners of the floor or even on the lamp edges when you check-in. Tops of furniture need a good wipe down, found crumbs/dirt on several in the main kitchen/living area. Bathroom clearly had water damage and shower floor was not clean. Beds were not comfortable and creaked every time you moved. Overall we had a good stay but definitely room for improvement.

Improvement needed

Non-potable water. Poor water pressure. No broom, mop to clean up after ourselves. Low supplies such as 1 1/2 rolls of toilet paper for 4 adults for 3 days. We had to buy dish soap, t.p. And paper towels. No grill utensils . The hot tub was not what was in the pictures.

The water is potable, we haul water from Hot Springs... we also supply bottled water, because not everyone enjoys the mineral water here for drinking. We live next door and would have been happy to supply anything you needed to make your stay more enjoyable. The hot tub did get replaced because of bad leak.

Wonderful Stay!

The rental was just what we were looking for. Very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed. Enjoyed the hot tub very much! I didn’t have to bring any extras. Great location for all of our day trips. Loved it!

Another Great Stay!

Great place to stay!

This property was amazing! From the great views, to excellent amenities, I would highly recommend it! The owners were helpful and attendant when we needed, and thought of everything to make our stay special!

The location worked very well for us. Wonderful views and great privacy. The inside of the house was very homey and was great for us. If we were in the area again, we would stay there again.

Family time at Bear Paw!

Wade and Patricia were very accommodating when our trip plans changed slightly at the last minute. They worked with us and were very prompt in answering any questions we had before our arrival. The property was clean and the view was beautiful. Very quiet and peaceful.

Serene Location

This house is great! It is out in the woods, and the views are breathtaking. The house has everything you need! We LOVED soaking in the hot tub at sunrise. The town of hot springs is also very cute to walk around at. I highly recommend this house!

Private, Quiet, Remote

This is a wonderful retreat. The cabin is about 10 minutes from town. It is pretty remote and very private. There is lots of land for kids to play and have fun. The cabin itself is very nice. All the essentials are there. It is quite wonderful. We had one small issue and the owners came within five minutes to help out. Great experience.

Great Family Vacation

We had an amazing stay at the Bear Paw Den. We brought our 2 little ones (4 and 6) and they loved it so much. It was a great place to unwind after a long day in the Black Hills. The pictures do not do the views justice. It's truly amazing. Thank you Wade and Patricia for the best family vacation that we have ever had.

A little piece of heaven!

We just returned from our Easter vacation in the Black Hills, and we knew going in that there was no guarantee that we were going to have good weather in a month as fickle April. But fortune smiled on us and we were greeted by the warmest temperatures so far this year. It rained on our last full day at the cabin, but even that provided a good excuse to lay-up and relax in the hot tub, and recover from three days of exploring the Black Hills. Also, the fact that it was Easter Sunday meant that not much, if anything, would have been open anyway. We played board games (thoughtfully provided by the owners), and watched movies, and made banana splits instead. As for the Bear Paw Den; it was exactly what we had hoped for..... a secluded little hideaway for our family of four. In fact, given that the cabin is surrounded on three sides by cliffs, it couldn't have been much more secluded, or picturesque. The cabin is cozy, clean, and well-provisioned with everything visitors could need in terms of basic kitchen utensils, appliances, and dinnerware. Linens, towels, and extra blankets (super soft, and comfy) were to be found in abundance. We were greeted in the mornings by birds singing, and deer nibbling on the new spring grass around the house. At night, we were serenaded by the many wild turkeys roaming the hills behind the cabin. Our kids had a great time exploring the property, and playing fetch with our dogs on the spacious lawn. Our ten year old son practically lived in the hot tub the rest of the time. The town of Hot Springs is a collection of amazing turn-of-century stone architecture, funky little shops and galleries of all kinds, and friendly, down-to-earth people. We would recommend "The Vault"; a cool little bar and grill that had amazing food (try the 'Stewies Cheesesteak' sandwich if you like a little bit of spice in your life), and which was kid-friendly. They even had kid's karaoke from 6-8! We also ventured about ten miles out of town to check out Cascade Falls, a beautiful little oasis of warm springs that is, no doubt a local secret, but which we happened across by just driving around the area. Probably the only down-side to our trip was that we never were able to get ahold of the owners during our stay, and so, were never able to get the password to the wifi network. But even that just ensured that our kids weren't going to spend the whole trip looking at a screen. It was a perfect vacation! 5 stars!!!!!

Great spring break visit

The property was gorgeous! My 7 and 3 yo enjoyed exploring the space and soaks 3x in the hot tub. The cabin fit our needs and was well equipped with kitchen supplies, games and blankets. A washer and dryer would be an excellent addition as well as a few info cards with heater and Wi-Fi instructions for those of us with no cell service. A big thank you to Wade for his hospitality.

We are a product of on online dating. Patricia moved from MN to the Northern Hills in 1979. Wade was born in Spearfish, but was living in Colorado, counting days until the next time he could get back the 'The Hills'.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

When we found the property online, we fell in love with the house... and Wade the shop. But after we came to see it in person and walked to the cliff... well, it was just amazing. You have to see it in person to understand. Everyday, we tell our 3 dogs and 3 cats, 'we are going to the cliff' and we all take a hike together, stopping just to sit and look. Seems like every hike, we see something new, we never noticed before.

We want every guest to feel right at home and provide everything you could ever need. We treat our guests as family... that traveled from across the country and have what they need to relax and prepare for the best vacation possible. We know most families only get 1 or 2 vacations a year, we are very honored to be a part of that experience.
