Completely furnished 2 story home with spacious kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms , large deck, laundry facilities, 1 full bath. The home rests at the base of the Appalachian Trail and the Alleghany Trail with mountainous viewing and exceptional recreational activities inclusive of hiking, rapture viewing, white water rafting, fishing, historical landmarks within miles and most importantly peaceful natural beauty of nature's best. The home is 6 miles from Thomas Jefferson Forest, at the base of Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory, 25 miles from white water rafting facilities, 45 minutes from Virginia Tech University located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The home is also 45 minutes from The Greenbrier Resort, in White Sulfer Springs. Buffalo farms and local attractions are within miles of the home. The home is 70 years old, hardwood flooring and clean new carpeting, comfortable furnishings with all clean new bedding. Home offers 4 bedrooms, 2 queens and 2 standard, 2 sleeper sofas and has spacious room for child care equipment if needed. All dishes and cookware supplied, full size electric stove and refrigerator in addition to washer and dryer. The home offers 1 full acre of yard with a huge deck in rear facing mountains in view (great for entertaining ) and a covered front porch with swing and sitting availablility The house is a very comfortable cottage with propane heat units available year round in addition to a wood burning buck stove in front living room. Owners are nearby available to answer any other questions or needs. The home has 2 tvs with video dvd units .
Available for additional charge is a EV charger . Inquiry required.

Quiet peaceful escape

Very much enjoyed this quaint cottage on a nice big yard. Enjoyed walking to the stream and watching wildlife right off the front porch and back deck. Wildflowers everywhere! Must note had absolutely no cell coverage which was a bit surprising, but also relaxing ;).

Sydnie’s VA Tech Graduation was AWSOme. We 8 met here in Waitsville at this charming cottage.

Checkin couldn’t have been easier and telephone calls were taken and returned with a joyful voice. We loved grilling streaks the night before graduation on the beautiful deck overlooking a yonder pond. We came from, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee and the Lake of the Ozarks! Fun. Fun. Fun. The only surprise was the remoteness of the property. It was a gorgeous drive but farther than 45 minutes to campus . Would return in a heartbeat. Thank you ! Loved it.

Great cottage in “Almost Heaven”

There were six of us and we were very comfortable. There was even air conditioning (rare in the area). Joy is very helpful and even supplied us with fresh eggs. The view from the deck is peaceful and fun to watch the geese come in each evening. The small front porch is perfect for waving to locals as they drive by. Pretty remote but Paint Bank (10 miles away) has essentials. Go to Hanging Rock and over to Cheese n Moor. Mostly relax and enjoy each other.

Relaxing Retreat

Our family enjoyed our stay at the country cottage. It was well stocked with all we needed for a comfortable stay with 4 children. Mrs. Joy was so nice and showed the kids their property and the farm animals. It is a gorgeous place in the country and we truly enjoyed our stay.

Game Day Getaway

We needed a place close to VA Tech for a game. Property was perfect for what we needed. A beautiful 40 minute drive from Lane Stadium & out of the hustle & bustle. Host was absolutely fantastic & very welcoming! Couple of things for others: About 20 minutes from property, you will lose service. GPS will tell you that you have arrived about 10 minutes from the actual property. I would recommend printing directions prior to your trip. No WiFi - it’s a true unplugged trip (we loved it) but I was prepared to work the weekend & couldn’t.

Quaint and clean

My daughters called this cottage the “Joy House” and what a joy it was! It was perfect for our quick stay to relax and unplug and unwind. Joy made it so easy to rent and check in. I would recommend this charming place to anyone.

Fabulous!

My family stayed for a long weekend and loved this place. It was so clean and inviting. Very comfortable beds. Joy is an excellent host. This is a great place to unplug and unwind. If I could give it more than 5 stars I definitely would.

Great Get-Away in the Mountains

We had an amazing weekend in this hidden corner of West Virginia. The mountains are beautiful and the house was a great fit for our two families (4 adults & 9 kids - all 10 and younger). The property owners were extremely friendly and more than hospitable and they made sure we felt at home. The house had a great yard - perfect for the kids.

Cozy house, perfect location

We had a great and relaxing time in West Virginia. Joy was prompt in responding to our questions and extremely nice to us. We enjoyed exploring the nearby hikes as well as resting and cooking in the house.

Cozy Getaway

My family usually does a big get together for Thanksgiving, but with Covid we didn't want anyone flying and wanted to limit contact. We needed someplace in the middle to meet and this was the perfect spot. The house was so cute and really had touches that made it feel like home. Plenty of blankets, towels, and pillows. Dishes etc were there. The rooms were homey and cute with little additions, so it doesn't feel like a sterile hotel room environment. There were games and coloring items. It made our family incredibly comfortable. It was really nice to unplug from the cell phones, internet and just unwind. At least for me it was. My mother in law not so excited by the no cell signal, but by the end of the week she appreciated the peace. Joy was an excellent hostess. She greeted us, had the house open and ready for us. My children ran over multiple times to her house to play with the chickens. She was patient with them and offered lots of fun suggestions for the area. Just up the mountain a little was a nice little hike to the lookout observatory. It's not too intense, but it did take about two hours round trip with us stopping at looking at things here and there. Overall, it was a relaxing week and I am very grateful.

Great break from the city

Joy could not have been more helpful or hospitable. Her house had everything we needed including a book about the surrounding area and she was right there whenever we had a question or needed anything. It's definitely a place we will return to.

Family vacation

It was so easy to book through the website and our host was very responsive to my multiple questions. This was the PERFECT getaway for our family. There are hiking trails nearby and we all enjoyed being out on the water. Having a fire at night is magical on a starlit night. Our hosts were so gracious, generous, friendly and kind we feel we have added them to our family. We are planning to come back.

Serene, Private Get Away

This was a perfect location to get away for the weekend with family. Our kids came in from Raleigh and ww came from Colby's to have some family time. Joy had to house open and ready for us and gave us information about the area. Phil and Joy gave us firewood for our evening fire. We enjoulyed hiking, starry nights, fires and just hanging out before the rush of fall. Clean and comfortable, thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Great country retreat

Beautiful location! The owners are nearby in case you need anything, but they provide ultimate privacy to guests. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

We hope you will come visit our Country Cottage Retreat and enjoy beautiful Monroe County, most beautiful area in West Virginia. Home is warm and comfortable and so very close to many activities. Home is also close to Greenbrier Resort as well as Blacksburg Virginia Tec.

Great for families and family gatherings. Loads of local interests including hiking, bicycling , exploring caves, historic towns, antiquing. Many great restaurants nearby. Beautiful peaceful with view of stars unbelievable. 2200 feet above sea level with fresh clean air and mountains and water. Back yard great for kids and games and football.
