I stay in VRBOs often, and this was by far the worst property I’ve ever stayed in.We arrived, followed the check-in instructions, and immediately ran into an issue because the keypad didn’t work. After texting the host, we were told the previous guest had broken it and that there was a key instead. This should have been communicated before our arrival. When we walked in, the house smelled and was dirty. The bed and pillows had a strong body odor smell. We washed the sheets and pillowcases, but the odor was coming from the pillows and mattress themselves. The mattress protector didn’t even fit the bed properly. The layout was also very misleading. There are no actual doors on the bedrooms or bathrooms—only curtains—so there is essentially no privacy. The home felt extremely disorganized. Cabinets were crammed full of random items, making it feel more like we were staying in a fraternity boy’s college house than a vacation rental. We booked this property last minute, so finding another place wasn’t realistic, and we weren’t able to get a refund. Otherwise, we would have left immediately after walking in.If you’re traveling with dogs, be aware that the backyard “fence” is very low and easy for dogs to jump over or escape through. There were also maintenance and safety issues. One of the strike plates had a nail sticking out, and my husband stepped on it.The only redeeming quality of this property was its location, which was conveniently close to downtown.
