Dear Mr. Scala. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are very pleased to hear that our staff made your stay pleasant and you enjoyed our services to the fullest. Roatan is home to a small insect called a “sand fly”. It is believed closely related to an insect known in the US as a no-see-um. In our experience they are very sensitive to OFF! One spray in the morning and one when coming out of the water, usually keeps them away all day. We provide OFF! As part of our welcome amenities at check in and are happy to provide more upon request. They tend to show up when conditions on the beach are wet and coo, which is normally around November to early January. During that time we also fog twice a day with a bio-gradable botanical repellent if conditions indicate they may be on the shore. As advertised, our shore line is roughly 900 ft long. The Eastern and Western thirds are sand, but the center third consists of mostly coral fragments and shells, and is rough in its natural state. For this reason, we recommend our guests wear water shoes as appropriate. The Turtle Grass or Sea Grass is a nursery for many sea species including baby barracudas, baby turtles, sea horses etc. The sea grass grows and shrinks as sea conditions change there was more during your stay than average, however we hope you also noticed the number of small sea creatures in there natural habitat. As you leave the shore line there is a section of the beach with is pure sand underwater, and as you get deeper you will find again more turtle grass. Our staff is happy to point out sections with pure sand. Our guests can also take the kayaks, jet-ski, or boats to enjoy the clear water and sand just inside the deep water reef just minutes away. Hi Anne, The villa is 7600 sq ft; floor plans are available on our website. We have one folding futon couch for extra guest sleeping capacity. All wood furniture, including the other couches and chairs, are island crafted Honduran mahogany and not futons. The above-grade main floor and upstairs receive natural airflow, the below-grade media room does not. Staff now ventilates the media room daily on behalf based on your feedback. We ask guests to carry the kayaks by the handles to minimize drag wear. We also advise (per manufacturer instructions) emptying the kayaks before transport back to storage- the handle rivets simply aren’t strong enough to handle water weight. This instruction was disregarded, leading to three of four kayak handles pulling free during your use. Roatan is a tropical, mostly undeveloped island, with a consistent breeze-it's not possible to offer a completely bug-free outside experience here. Door/window screens keep bugs outside if used properly. We usually fog 2-3 times/week, while guests are off property to minimize disturbance. During your stay, it was done once while you were at the villa, and twice while you were away at dinner. We charge actual cost for electric due to the number of electrical amenities (such as walk-in refrigerator/freezer, central air, and outdoor spa) available for guest use. Billing at cost allows guests who enjoy these amenities the flexibility to do so, without penalizing those who do without. Running totals are provided upon request anytime during a guest stay. Housekeeping feedback indicates AC was used regularly during your stay, if not by you personally. You were refunded for the serving plate (located in a bedroom nightstand) prior to your comment posting; the melted cup was only three weeks old. The center third of our 900ft beach tends towards small coral and rock, we recommend water shoes there. The sides are sand, as shown on our listing and website photos. Our insurance does not cover guests driving, so vehicles are available with staff driver. We don’t charge if a guest wants a ride into town and staff is heading that way, we do charge for group transport. Guests often rent their own vehicles, and we will arrange villa dropoff/pickup upon request. The tax rate in Honduras is 16%: 12% GST, and 4% tourism tax.
