Seal Cove Cottage by the Shore

This outstanding property offers peacefulness and beautiful views as well as gorgeous sunsets overlooking Blue Hill Bay. This property is located right on the ocean minutes away from Acadia National Park.

In addition to all the amenities, there is an accessible dock, with kayaking, rowing and canoeing. In early May and mid to late October the dock may not be in the water. There is a path from the cottage that takes you down to the rocky beach. The main driveway leads you down to where the pier and dock are located. It is a less than 5 min walk. This is where the kayaks, canoe and rowboat are located. The dock has 2 ladders where you and access the ocean for a swim. Please enjoy!

This cottage built in 1989, will make you feel right at home. It has 2 bedrooms and a loft. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other bedroom has two extra long twin beds that can be combined to form a king bed.. There is a loft with two twin beds a single, and a day bed. There is also a queen sleeper sofa in the living room.

There is a fully stocked kitchen, a deck with an outdoor shower. A full bath and a separate small room with a 2nd toilet. Also, many games and books for your use.

Georgeous property. We loved how quiet and secluded the cottage was away from the busier areas of the island. It was open, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked with all the appliances and cookware we needed for meals. We spent a lot of time on the deck viewing wildlife, the tide, and the sunsets. Our dogs loved exploring the cove and watching the deer. We had a wonderful stay.

we've been staying here for 20 years and are used to the set up. Nothing has really changed in those 20 years and that is what we like. the view can't be be beat and access to Acadia trails is key for us.

Cottage on the Quiet Side

We had such a good time at the cottage. Really enjoyed the deck for sunset and watching stars and lightening bug show each night!

The cottage is amazing. Yes it is a cottage so don’t expect anything fancy but it was well. Taken care of this family loves their home and you will too. We were there for a week beautiful sunsets deer walking across the front yard eagle flying overhead, quiet and serene.

Oh the views!

This truly is a cottage. Do not expect a fancy retreat. However the place is very clean and comfortable. The views from the deck are amazing and the location is very quiet and secluded. There's a lot of space when you take into account the loft area. The furniture and the beds are very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay and it make a great location to explore Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

Respite

It wasn't the easiest place to find as it is definitely off the beaten path, but once you are there, it is peaceful, calming and a refuge from the normal hustle and bustle of everyday life. Can't beat the view of the sunsets from the back deck! Lots of birds and wildlife on the property too! A true nature lovers paradise in one of the most beautiful places in the world, MDI.

Totally peaceful

We arrived after dark to this isolated cottage.The night sky was amazing & the Big Dipper huge. The morning views from the deck were delightful. Inside was a simple well-stocked family retreat home. Clean. Comfortable beds and linens. Great shower. Gas fireplace. Books & games galore. We fell in love with the place during our 4 night stay!

Beautiful place

The cottage is a hidden gem and it was unexpectedly pleasant place. This cottage feels like home with beautiful surroundings and unbelievable sunset view. Outdoor shower was special. Kitchen is well stocked including lobster pot so we enjoyed cooking lobsters. Everything is included like life jackets with Kayaks, and boat and very thoughtful setup. The cottage seems loved by owner and visitors for long time and have histories. Loved stay there and we made beautiful family memories.

Wonderful secluded cabin

We spent a week here at the cottage. It was very well stocked with linens, towels, and games. We made use of the kayaks and canoes daily, paddling out to various islands. It was wonderful to watch the sunset on the dock or at the cabin. We made trips into Acadia National Park, hiking Eagle Lake, Beehive, Jordan Lake, Gorham Mountain. Picked up groceries at Hannaford in Bar Harbor and cooked at the house. This was the perfect place for our family of 6 and would recommend this place to others!

Amazing coastal view

The coastal view from the large deck alone is enough to make this a great place. Even the view up the drive is amazing. Would definitely stay again. I love staying on this side of MDI. Privacy, peace and quite, but close enough to Bar Harbor, hikes, etc on the other side (there is a neighboring sister property near by, but the cottage still feels very private). Only things to point out regarding the property description that need updating: the indoor fireplace/stove is gas (not wood burning) and I did not see any motor boat (maybe this is a seasonal issue as I was there in early June).

Beautiful and peaceful!

This is a beautiful property, tucked away in gorgeous Seal Cove. For location and view, it really doesn't get much better. You're close to Southwest Harbor's cute restaurants, but you get your own cove to enjoy! It was restful and lovely. The reasons we awarded 4 stars instead of 5 was that: from photos we thought there was a double bed, but there were only twins which we ended up pushing together; the cottage was a bit dusty/cob webby; and finally we felt some of the furniture (especially deck furniture and pillows) were tired and due for an upgrade. Otherwise, the view, location, and remoteness of this place can't be beat.

Thank you for your feedback. We take suggestions from our renters seriously and is a lot of the time how we know when we can improve things. Some of our deck furniture is getting old and weathered so we can put that in our budget for next year. I'll get some new pillows and I'll mention to the cleaning lady to make sure she cleans in all the nooks and crannies. Thanks again for your feedback.

The cabin is perfect for gatherings, there’s tons of space within, though parking might cap at 2-3 cars. All the amenities are provided, the kitchen is well supplied with tools and pans. Only concern was the oven and toaster oven, looked a little like a prior project left enough grease where I decided not to risk it lighting during a meal prep. Bring a plug adapter for usb if you need it to charge things, had mine but saw no others there, again its a minor thing that all travelers should have on them nowadays. There are two places on Mt Desert Island that have the address, so be sure you are aiming for the one in Seal Cove. Property is a wonderful, roomy retreat. Any point on the island is at worst 30 minutes away so patience need not be a virtue.

A beautiful getaway

Loved this cottage for our 20th anniversary trip. We spent a couple hours exploring the tide pools right outside our door at low tide. Although this location is quiet and secluded, it was easy to get to all of the hiking trails and restaurants on MDI. Not a perfect view of sunset from the deck, but it was from the driveway. I took off one star for cleanliness because of the stained pillows and linens. They were clean, but stained, and definitely need an update. Other than that, I'd book again in a heartbeat.

Fabulous setting, "adult camping"

I was very glad to have read all the prior reviews, so I was prepared for most of the pros/cons...the view and setting were spectacular. The cottage is spartan, not an issue except for stained curtains, threadbare towels , etc. The oven is in desperate need of a thorough cleaning. The twin beds in both downstairs rooms are quite uncomfortable and have rubber mattress pads than make quite a bit of noise while tossing and turning! We were here for 2 weeks and will definitely return to the area.

Hi Melissa, I am so sorry you thought the mattresses were uncomfortable. This is our first complaint about them but I will look at them in the spring when I am there and get new ones if needed. Thank you for the feedback. Not sure why the rubber mats were on the beds. You would have been fine to remove them while you were there and I will make sure the cleaning lady does not put them on in the future. I will also have her clean the oven and check out the stained curtain. I hope you had a good time and will return again. Best Regards, Ginny

Nice location, not the cleanest

The owner had a good response time. It was nice there were odds and ends available (paper towels, soap, etc). Good internet. Great view. We did not find a kayak which was disappointing. We found a rowing kayak but not something that you could take out by yourself. Also there was no boat. The place was also not very clean. I dropped something and looked under the couch.. gross. The couches were kinda gross and old. The rug in the living room was visibly dirty and when I played on it with my son, I had pet hair all over me…. We didn’t bring a pet. The dishes in the cabinet were also dirty.

Thank you for your feedback. We get mixed reviews about the cleanliness of the cottage. Some say it was so clean and others say not. I will definitely get with the cleaning crew about this. We are in the process of update furniture so stay tune! I'll have to ask the caretaker about the kayaks. We should have had 5 down by the pier. I hope you had a nice stay. Ginny Lane

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful oceanfront cabin in Maine! The location was absolutely perfect, with stunning views of the water, daily deer visitng, and breathtaking sunsets every evening. Watching the sun dip below the horizon from the cabin was a highlight of our trip.We also loved the kayaking opportunities right outside the door. Exploring the coastline from the water was peaceful and unforgettable. Close to Acadia National Park! Our dog had the best time too—she loved spending time by the ocean, exploring the shoreline, and soaking up the fresh sea air.The cabin was comfortable, relaxing, and had everything we needed for a wonderful getaway. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat with incredible ocean views, outdoor activities, and a dog-friendly atmosphere, this is the place.

Great views, but Cottage issues.

Pros - Great views. Cottage on quiet side of island. Cons - Cottage needs a thorough cleaning (dust, spider webs, pantry dirty, some pots and pans dirty, etc).TV did not work, no big deal to us - but might be to others. Broiler element missing from oven. No motorized boat as stated in ad (main reason we rented cottage) and grassway to water needed mowing so could not use. No storage for guests food, Odds and end towels etc left in dryer wet when we arrived so had to dry and put away. Screens on back door would not stay on. Not the rental we were expecting at all - but we made the best of it and had a fantastic time. Loved the fresh lobster from Hodgens!
