Waterfront Beach Cottage in Protected National Park Waters - Estate Zootenvaal

This one bedroom/one bath postcard perfect cottage sits on a gentle grade across the calm, protected waters of the US Virgin Islands National Park. Estate Zootenvaal was well known for 4 cottages that share a private sandy beach. The 2017 hurricanes destroyed these cottages and but now they are back, better than every. Everything about this cottage is all brand new, including Solar Panels and Tesla Batteries for backup in case of power outages.
The house is elegantly furnished and well equipped with everything you'll need for a perfect vacation.
Enjoy the cooling trade winds and panoramic views while you relax on the porch or explore Hurricane Hole in the provided 2 man kayak. The gated private beach with lounge chairs and tables are perfect for reading a book or taking a swim or snorkel in this beautiful bay.

My husband and I visited the beautiful island of St. John for the first time to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Beach Cottage exceeded any and all expectations! It is ideally situated on a quiet cove that borders the Virgin Island National Park. Dorothy, our host, thoughtfully provided all the amenities to make a stay utterly relaxing.

We had the best trip ever staying at Dorothy and Fernando’s amazing cottage. The house had everything you could possibly need and more! Waking up to the sounds of the waves from the beach across the street was magic. We are already looking at dates to come back to this wonderful place!

The Beach Cottage is the perfect home for enjoying all the best aspects of St. John. We would give it 10 stars out of 5 if we could. It's quiet, secluded, and private, but only a short drive from the amenities of Coral Bay (restaurants, markets, etc.). The home itself is beautiful. Rebuilt after the 2017 hurricanes, it's carefully designed to balance breezy views with privacy. The kitchen is well-equipped and easy to cook in. The home features thoughtful touches that make guests feel welcome and appreciated. Dorothy and Fernando are hospitable and thoughtful, going the extra mile to ensure their guests have a great experience. They were understanding and accommodating when our travel dates changed due to an airspace closure.Our goal was to kayak, hike, and snorkel throughout the National Park/National Reef, and this home was the ideal launchpad for all those activities. Wake up to beautiful sunrises over the water, explore Hurricane Hole by kayak, hike to a secluded beach and snorkel, and fall asleep to the sound of gentle waves lapping the beach -- all without having to get into a car.

Review of Stay

Stayed at the property for our honeymoon and had a great experience… great location, beautiful house looking over Hurricane Hole near Coral Bay. Would definitely come and stay there again in the future!

Perfect post-elopement getaway!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Beach Cottage after our recent elopement on St. John. A peaceful, beautiful escape, we loved sitting on the porch listening to the waves. Dorothy and Fernando are lovely hosts! The cottage is very well stocked with everything you'd need, and impeccably clean. Being located just outside Coral Bay, the cottage was a wonderful home base for exploring St. John. Would love to stay at the Beach Cottage on our next visit to St. John!

Elopement bliss

My wife and I had our elopement on St. John and it was everything we had hoped for. We had a lovely private ceremony on the private beach shared by the property.The property itself is located just outside of coral bay and this is hands down the best rental we have ever stayed at. It's close enough to the ocean where you can hear the relaxing sound of the ocean waves day and night. This cozy cottage makes you feel at home from the moment you walk i.

Beautiful property in paradise!

We had a great stay at this beautiful cottage overlooking Hurricane Hole. Our favorite part was the porch with the fantastic view. The cottage was stocked with everything we needed for the week and was very clean and comfortable. Thanks for the great vacation!

We loved our stay at the beach cottage. The house was really clean. The location (despite being near the road) was really quiet and very convenient (no difficult hills to navigate with a driveway). You’re near grocery stores, the Coral Bay restaurants, and within a 15 minute drive for most beaches, hikes, and snorkeling spots. From the deck there’s a nice wind keeping most insects off you while you can watch the sunrise over Hurricane Hole. I think I only saw a single mosquito while we were on the deck. The private beach is a short walk away and a great place to relax. The kayak was awesome to have access to for exploring mangroves in Borck Creek. Brown Bay Trail is a short walk or drive away and is well maintained.The kitchen is well stocked with much of what you’d need for at-home cooking. The grill was clean and a great way to prep some delicious vacation meals. Having UV treated water means you don’t have to stock up on tons of bottled water, and Dorothy kindly had some ice already made and waiting for us in the freezer.Make sure you check out all the great literature placed throughout the house (maps, field guides, St. john OTBP). The bedroom was super comfortable with a nice fan and ample AC. The blinds kept the room nicely dark if you’re a late riser or want a midday nap. The king sized bed (leaning on the firmer side though certainly not very firm) is very comfortable.Dorothy was an excellent host, providing helpful/prompt responses, privacy, and generosity.

Perfect St. John Cottage

Relaxing getaway

The property is a wonderful and relaxing getaway! The property is located on the quiet side of the island and is perfect for those seeking some R&R. Very comfortable and peaceful location!

We were celebrating our 33 anniversary and third time at STJ. Very peaceful, quiet location on very comfortable, clean and well-stocked house! Can easily hear the waves from the comfort of the porch. Also worth the short walk to the private beach because there is shade as well as sun and a gazebo there for comfort no matter the preference of the person (I am a sun lover and my husband prefers shade!). Very much worth the stay!

A beautiful week in paradise!

This property was an absolute gem! So much thought and detail went into this beach cottage to make it the perfect home away from home. Dorothy was extremely attentive in keeping communication lines open and was a wealth of information in helping us navigate the island. Don't look any further for a place to stay on St John, because this property was perfect!

Perfect place to unwind

A perfect place for the wife and I to just relax. Everything from Fernando picking us up in Cruz Bay to the beach house being more than we expected....(the pictures don't do it justice)...we throughly enjoyed ourselves. Fernando and Dorothy are the perfect hosts. If your looking for a quiet getaway with a 5 star beach house this is the place!

Absolutely phenomenal!

Everything about the stay was exceptional! The property, the location, the amenities, the owners… everything that they had the ability to affect was simply exceptional. The owners were so incredibly attentive and hospitable. We were already planning our next visit before this one was over! Dorothy and Fernando are fantastic. Fernando is Italian and I come from Colorado. We have lived on St John for over 20 years. Our first home, was La Dolce Vita, also in Coral Bay and also on the water. We used to short term it and do charters on Fernando's beloved "Fernando's Republic", which sadly sank in 2017.
