Clara's Cottage, On Lake Michigan



The cottage is located approximately 30 minutes north of Milwaukee and ,10 minutes south of historic Sheboygan/Kohler golf courses. Also 20 to 30 minutes from Elkhart Lake/Road America.

The cottage has been in our family for decades and we still love going there.

There is plenty to do for those looking to stay busy. However, if you are looking for a private and relaxing getaway, this is where you want to to be.
Clara’s cottage is situated on a private double lot just yards from the beach and the
ever-changing colors of Lake Michigan.

Throughout the living area, there are stunning lake views out each window. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs with comfortable queen-size beds. The upstairs dormer provides a nice lounge area with TV and views of the lake.

Nice home & great location

Right on the lake with a gentle few steps down to the large beach. The house has been updated but has kept some of the old cottage feel. Thank goodness for the air conditioner-it was a very hot week. Owner was easy to reach. It was just two of us, but it would be a great place to bring a bunch of kids, also.

Such a gem!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The lake was warm enough (for us) to swim in, and it was just wonderful and relaxing to bounce in the waves! Afterwards, we'd sit in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the sun and dry off. The cottage was clean, warm, and homey. We tried to use the grill, but I think it was simply too windy. No worries, we cooked inside. If you want to enjoy the relaxing on the beach and in the water, this is the place for you.

Great Family Getaway

Great location and our kids loved being right on the beach. The cozy cottage was the perfect fit for our family of five. Easy drive into Sheboygan for shopping and attractions.

Would rent again!

This rustic cottage had everything we were looking for. It was steps from the lake, and the beach was great for walking, watching the sunrise and we hardly saw any people.The location was perfect. The cottage was in a near private location but there was tons to do a short drive north or south.It was clean and there was nothing we needed that we didn't have.The check-in/check-out process was one of the easiest I have had so far on VRBO.Overall I highly recommend.

Perfect beach retreat

The location of the house couldn't have been better. Loved that we could step out the back door and walk along a quiet sandy beach for miles in each direction or sit under the umbrella and read. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with a variety of pots, pans and dishes, making cooking meals easy. We didn't have beach towels, a hairdryer or laundry soap as we were visiting from Oregon, but we managed. We would definitely come back.

Great get away cabin!

Small family stay.

Enjoyed the beach and quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors. Clean house perfect for our small family. Access to Sheboygan during a rainy day also a plus. Owner was very responsive and left detailed instructions for checkin and checkout.

Clara’s cottage is steps away from the beach and was perfect for our small family. The sandbars made playing in the water so much fun for our kids too. What a great end to our summer!

Loved the Cottage

Our stay was perfect. The Cottage was a perfect place for my husband and I to relax and enjoy the views of Lake Michigan. It was a great get-a-way spot. The surrounding area with it's small towns only 10 minutes away offered a chance to eat out for breakfast and dinner as well as shop for groceries for the week.

Lake House

A very nice place to spend time. The lake views and beach are beautiful. We walked along beach during the day and made fires in the fire pit at night. The property is close enough to both Sheboygan and Milwaukee for dinners and activities. We had a great time at the Lake House and would definitely go back.

My family and I had such a fun time at Clara's Cottage! We were very fortunate to have great weather in mid-July, so we spent lots of time at the beach. As advertised in the listing, the semi-private beach has direct access from the backyard - huge plus! If you're looking for a lazy summer vacation at the beach, but want to avoid the heat of Florida or the Gulf Coast, the cottage is a great choice. The cottage had all necessities expected/needed for a 6-night stay, and Rick was a responsive host through messages before and during our stay. The external temperatures were a little warm during the afternoons, but the window fans located on both levels kept the cottage cool and comfortable. The attic (while a bit musty smelling) was a big hit with my young kids. It wasn't emphasized as part of the listing, but should have been since they thought it was the coolest part of the home. There are 4 beds located upstairs (in addition to the 2 queens on the main floor), so plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The basement (also musty) had a half-bath and the washer/dryer.The local area, from Sheboygan to Port Washington, had lots of fun things for my family to do. I look forward to returning to the area and would stay at Clara's Cottage again!

Please remember this cottage sits very close to the lake.( feet away) Also, there is a large air puriifer I usually run in the winter, but can be run anytime. Thank's for staying with us. Rick

All the Lake Michigan feels😍

We loved this sweet cottage! Everything was as advertised. The double lot had a lovely grass yard overlooking the sandy beach. Not everyone along these beaches are lucky enough to have so much sand to play/sit on. Also worth mentioning, Amsterdam boat launch is only about 1.5 miles away. We had our ski boat (24 ft) and several jet skis buoyed out front in the water. Super easy in/out with watercraft. My elderly parents spent the week at the cottage and lots of family came and went. We also hosted a 74th birthday party for my dad. My parents were very comfortable there. Lots for little people to do while the grown ups visited. Can’t wait to book again!

Family vacation on the beach

We loved our stay at the cottage! It was my husband, myself, 9 yo son, 6 yo daughter, 3yo son and 1 yo daughter that stayed. The upstairs loft was a perfect kids sleeping area for the 3 big kids! Plenty of space and beds. The downstairs bedrooms both had queens that were comfy as well. The cottage is steps from the soft, sandy beach. The water itself gently slopes in to 2-3 feet ish (while we were there) then shallows back up to a sandbar. Perfect for the kids to play in! Nightly bonfires were a hit as well. We noticed the taste of the water that was mentioned as well. I thought it was fine but my kids were picky so we got bottled water as well. There is a water softer in the basement so I’m sure it’s safe. Just a quirk to note. Rick was an excellent host. Easy to communicate with and quick to help with any issues. Overall we loved our stay and would 100% recommend.

Hi Ashley, Glad to hear that your family had a blast . The water is tested every year and is fine to drink. We have a filtration/softener system in place. This system was recently ( 9/1/23) upgraded, so there is no taste at all.

Great location, very cozy

We had a great week at the shore. The location and beach couldn't be better. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 young children) stayed comfortably. There was room to have 2 other adults and another child visit for a day and night, but sharing 1 very snug bathroom would be hard among this many people for an extended time. There is a second shower in the basement that is a bit larger, but was hard for the grandparents to access. The lofted area was perfect for the kids, you can easily sleep 4 kids up there in individual beds, more if they doubled up. The loft is its own area entirely and a perfect place for the kids, even with a TV up there. The sound of the waves, the pristine beaches, the quiet/exclusivity of the location all made for a very relaxing week! The kids could play at the beach while the grown ups were in the house or in the back yard and you can watch them the entire time! The beach sand was very soft/clean and there were no pebbles like some parts of Lake Michigan have. The owner was very responsive to our questions, but we had no issues. We did notice the water had a sulfur odor to it, we were told this is normal for the area and the water is safe to drink, but we preferred to use bottled water for our cooking and drinking.

Thank you for staying at Clara's Cottage, and I am glad to hear you and your children really enjoyed the beach front location. Regarding your note on the water, and a slight odor. The well is tested once a year , and has passed every time. Update: We do have a recently upgraded ( 9/1/23)water filtration system and softener. There is no odor at all.

Felt like summer camp

Clara's Cottage satisfied our needs, particularly with close proximity to the PGA Ryder Cup. It was wonderful to have a place out of the elements, yet in view of the water. The view of Lake Michigan is STELLAR. And you can bet we warmed ourselves by the firepit an evening when the winds had died down. Inside, the cottage was tidy and comfortable for evening relaxation for the two of us. The extra shower in the basement assisted with early morning preparations, but I would be remiss if I didn't highlight the showers. They are SMALL. While I am small framed, my husband is broad in the shoulders - it was a tight fit. The beds were comfy. The cottage is quite sound. Believe me, the waves breaking off the lake were very loud. We were surprised by that, but also thrilled. I mention summer camp in the title because one must pack so much for that. Thankfully, I suspected that as a newer rental to VRBO it would not be fully stocked like many homes, and I suspect it may be winterized in cooler months. That is not a negative, but something a renter should be aware of. If you plan to cook, you should pack everything you will need outside of salt and pepper mills. The outside gas grill was a lifesaver after attempting to boil pasta water for 40 minutes on the stove. The stove is small and aged; the burners might warm something but will not boil water. The coil type electric burners probably just need replaced. Like I said, we adjusted and used the grill side-burner and things were ready in a jiffy. Further relative to summer camp, don’t we all look forward to that? A little primitive and convenient, with beautiful natural water at the doorstep. Clara’s Cottage is a fond memory for us now. Our host was certainly responsive and accommodating! We wish the families of this little homestead all the best as they venture into the world of vacation rentals!!!

Thank you for renting Clara's Cottage. We are happy to hear that really enjoyed the location, the cozy house and amazing stellar panoramic views of the lake at your doorstep. The two showers are a standard size. The kitchen is fully stocked( not with food or drinks) with everything you need to cook with. (pot, pans , utensils , cutting boards bakeware, storage containers, plates , glasses, etc.) The stove is 3 years old, in 2018 UL made changes to stove top coil burners on all stoves for safety reasons, but a consequence is that it can take longer to boil large amounts of water. Using a lid speeds up the process. The new big stainless steel gas grill with side burner does come in handy. Glad to hear that your party created some fond memories of your stay , that is what Clara's Cottage is all about.

A special cottage

Our family had the best vacation at Clara’s Cottage! It is a special cottage with plenty of room and everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Quaint cottage on the beach

The cottage was a fine size for a family of 4. The main bathroom was a bit small and only showers are available which was not an issue for us. We really enjoyed the private beach on the lake. The cottage had all basic amenities that we needed. The owner was helpful with ideas of things to do or see in the area.

Thank you for renting Clara's Cottage. We are happy to hear that you had a great time on our large private 120 ft beach. Yes the main bathroom is not roomy, but it does the trick. The other bathroom with shower is larger.
