Secluded Sanctuary with Beach and Woods

The Cottage is a beautifully decorated French Country bungalow located on 7.5 acres of a privately owned compound. Miles of Lake Michigan sand is simply steps away through a walk of the stunning gardens. Just up a few stairs you will find yourself on the shores of Lake Michigan. Visitors often remark that it is as vast and magnificent as any ocean. It truly earns its place among the Great Lakes. Beach chairs and sand toys are available for a relaxing day of play in the sand.

The property is home to 4 acres of wooded hiking trails through your own secluded cedar forest. No matter the season the adventure of exploring the woods is a highlight for visitors.

In the Spring, Summer and Fall, the fabulous outdoor grill is available for your cooking pleasure with plenty of outdoor seating. Inside the cottage, a coffee maker, mini fridge and toaster allow the conveniences of any hotel - but with luxury, views and comfort that is unsurpassed.

Located north of Milwaukee and just 15 minutes south of historic Kohler, there is plenty to do for those looking to stay busy. However, if you are looking to do absolutely nothing in a luxurious private setting than The Cottage is where you need to be.

As a romantic getaway, a charming stay for a girls weekend, or a family with children The Cottage at Casa del Lago is an ideal home away from home.

The alternate name for Casa del Lago is The Sanctuary, with good reason. This is a property like none other. The smell of cedar, the wind in the trees, the lapping and/or roar of the waves, with the morning birds, will transform your body and mind during your stay.

The cottage was a wonderful get away for our small family. We were close enough to Milwaukee and other towns for convenience, yet the cottage set the scene for a relaxing peaceful get away. Out time on the beach was wonderful!

Excellent stay at the beach

We stayed two nights in early August. The cottage was clean and well maintained. I had to reset the regulator valve on the grill, but that only took a couple of minutes. The 2nd sleeping area isn’t really a bedroom, but it worked well for our two kids.Overall it was a wonderful stay.

Extremely peaceful and beautiful location. We didn’t get a lot of lake time due to rain and (sadly) some big flies on the beach during the bright windless day, but we loved the firepit and the sound of the waves. Everything was great in the cabin.

Awesome lake location but only one adult bed

Quiet and private place. The cottage sits on the back of a lakefront property in a wooded area but you have your own direct path/access to the beautiful beach with all of the amenities you could want, chairs, loungers, umbrellas, tables, etc. The cottage is decorated beautifully with high-end, traditional finishes. Extremely clean with no bugs at all (given the wooded area, we were pleasantly surprised). The primary bedroom is the entire second floor so it's all open, spacious, and again beautiful – but fyi there is no bathroom up there. The main floor has a living room and gorgeous bathroom. It is a kitchenette with a mini fridge where they provided coffee, tea and a few granola bars. There is a second main floor room with tv. That second room has two oversized chairs that pull out into twin beds - this was a disappointment to us as we were two friends who each needed our own bedroom (this is listed as a two bedroom which it technically is but a twin bed does not suffice for an adult). If you were a family with kids that might work. Fyi, bring your own Kleenex, soap, shampoo, etc. The owner was good to work with. If they had a proper second bed, we’d love to come back.

A Little Piece of Heaven

We happened to find this place while searching for lodging near Oostburg. We were invited to a wedding there and needed accommodations for 4 adults. This cottage exceeded anything we could have ever imagined!! Elegant decor, beautiful foliage and well tended flower gardens, with a short path to a huge private sandy beach on Lake Michigan. There were numerous lawn chairs and tables throughout the property for us to relax and enjoy God’s beautiful cr. We had a bin fire on the beach one night. The kitchen area is small with sink, toaster, microwave small fridge, but plenty of dishes and silverware. There are two outdoor grills available. The weather was perfect when we were there so we ate breakfasts outside overlooking the lake. Just gorgeous! We didn’t want to leave this little piece of heaven on earth! Would love to return someday!

Good and Bad.

It is indeed a lovely spot. Lake Michigan is stunning and the private beach was sublime. The cottage was as described..although it was not on the beach. It was behind a main house, still secluded and a short walk to the beach through lush ferns and majestic cedars and birch trees. Absolutely beautiful! The lawn mowers and blowers were our wake up call at 7am our first morning. I had asked in advance about neighbors and seclusion and quietness explaining that we live on a busy road and were concerned about noise distractions. The owner assured us that it was a quiet and private area. Our first night we fell asleep to the sounds of the waves that we could hear from our room. Lovely! The winds shifted on our second night and the interstate highway a mile away made it impossible to sleep without closing all doors and windows. We were lullabyed to sleep with the purr of the Peterbilt’s and the hum of the White Freightliners. The clicking of the ceiling fan in 6/8 time and the regular hum of some kind of fan in the knee wall added another layer of white noise to distract us from the highway. If we could take the property and move it a mile farther from the highway it might be the perfect place for a return visit. We have learned that from now on a google earth look at where we’re considering staying would be prudent.

Relaxing

We found this listing while looking for a a place to stay along Lake Michigan for a week. It had great reviews and it being off the beaten path was attractive to us. We were initially concerned about the lack of a full kitchen since our plan was to stay put and not travel around much once there, but we were able to make it work using the grill. We did bring a large Cabella’s cooler that we kept most of our refrigerated items in and a plugin freezer cooler to keep our ice packs cold to rotate them occasionally. That supplemented the mini frig nicely. The mini frig had plenty of space to season some steaks on a tray and let them marinate. We like our coffee in the morning. For that they had a Keurig, which we didn’t use, and an electric water kettle. That we did use. My husband did French press coffee and I had also made a cold brew concentrate to bring along. I’m a half-n-half junkie and a half gallon of that fit easily along with my cold brew carafe in the mini frig.

Perfect Getaway

Place was everything I expected and more. The weather wasn’t great but when the sun was out the property was so wonderful. Beach was perfect. Seating throughout the property was really nice. When needing shade it was available.

Private beach cottage

It was peaceful and secluded. George was friendly and helpful. The cottage might seem outdated to some but the Victorian furniture is beautiful. The private beach was amazing as well as the beach fire pit.

The location is beautiful; in the woods, just a short walk to the beach. Because it's nestled in the woods there is a musty smell in the cottage. The kitchenette is bare bones and grill utensils were absent. It is a bit odd to be on the grounds of the larger house where it was indicated that there is common area, like the nice outside grill/seating area. Because this area is by the big house it feels like one is trespassing.

Tranquil getaway

We highly recommend this property for a tranquil getaway on a pristine beach on lake Michigan. The large sandy beach and clean and refreshing waters of the lake were amazing. Everything you need for a day at the beach is included. The cottage was charming, quaint and exceptionally clean and well maintained. The setting among the cedar forest and ferns was dreamy and relaxing. Communication with the host was stellar, and we hope to return soon!

Beautiful property, loved the beach

My wife and I stayed at the Cottage for a weekend. The beach on the property is beautiful. The sand is perfect. We didn't see anyone else on the beach. The Cottage is nice. The furnishings are very classy. We found this was a much better option than staying at the American Club.

I’ve been in the creative field since my early days in business, whether conceptualizing and creating commercials for some of America’s iconic brands, to designing, remodeling and decorating exceptional properties.

Having searched for the perfect lake front property for what seemed like an eternity, I came across this property, I knew this was it, and was inspired to call it Casa del Lago. We developed a theme of construction and design specific to each of the property’s 5 buildings and cohesively tied them together to blend with the natural environment of the sandy beach and the beautiful scented cedar forest.

When we decided that he wanted to look for a lake house, I was skeptical and hesitant. With two young children at the time and plenty of property maintenance with our home in Chicago, I couldn't imagine taking on another burden.

We had looked in Indiana and Michigan to no avail, but when a friend invited us to Kohler for a visit - we decided to look at some homes along the Lake on our way to their place.

I could hardly contain myself when walking the grounds with the realtor - it was more than we could have ever imagined. As I told my husband then, do not waste another minute looking elsewhere, this was the place.

You will undoubtedly understand why when you come. Casa del Lago has been a blessing to our family not a burden and one we are thankful to be able to share with you.

You won't leave the same as you arrived. It is impossible to walk the property, breath in the cedar scented air and hear the constant lapping of the lake and not be changed. You will sleep deeper, feel calmer and find that that the evasive answers to your questions are answered in the space that can only be described as a sanctuary.
