The perfect respite

We had a great time, the apartment was great for my daughter and I and the neighborhood is quiet and beautiful with great streets to grab coffee, drinks etc within walking distance. I can’t wait to come back!

Had another great week at this perfect home, it was spacious and comfortable for my family of 3 and a great neighborhood to explore. I’ll miss it and can’t wait to go back!

Charming

Charming older home, great location, good communication. Bed was very comfortable and kitchen had all the tools we needed. Neighborhood very quiet, and beautifully treed.

Perfect stay

I was in Portland for work and this was the perfect place for me, I appreciated all of the extras, laundry and coffee, the apartment is clean and well furnished with very nice artwork and entertainment options. I loved the neighborhood and had everything I needed within walking distance. The host communicated quickly and kindly and I felt very comfortable.

Great location and lots of space

Great space for a couple, with a large bedroom and very spacious kitchen. The couch-bed in the living room was workable but not the most comfortable, so I would only recommend it for a night or two for one adult, or for kids. Main bed was comfortable and cozy. The property hasn't been renovated in a while, but everything inside was clean and functional. Access instructions were very easy; we had no trouble getting inside. Short walk to Alberta is very convenient, and neighborhood is fairly quiet. Parking was not an issue.

Best Friends Getaway

Respect goes to host Karen for her thorough instructions prior to arrival, her list of contacts and local information; she was very responsive to our inquiries, even though she was not on site. The interior images accurately reflect the artistic charm of an Arts District home. No disrespect intended, however we thought we had arrived at the wrong address? The exterior landscaping was overgrown, unattended, and dying; the entrance to the house had a failing retaining wall; the entry door knobs were loose, and we feared we’d pull them off while turning keys. The impression on arrival did not feel like the charm of the VRBO we’d booked. Our stay was during a 100+ heat wave; certainly not a common occurrence in Portland, and we had to keep the AC on for most of the 3 days of high heat. The two window mounted air conditioners did keep the LR and BR comfortable; and they are noisy. The kitchen had a fan in the window + we used the standing fan from the LR as well, to keep air circulating throughout; the AC was not strong enough to service the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom too, during these abnormally hot days. We were able to maintain a bearable temperature. Lighting was not sufficient for those who like to read in bed or in the living room at night and the general feel of the space and furniture are not for kickback relaxation (one of our main objectives during our vacay). Kitchen chairs are taped with black utility tape where seams split, and the tape stuck to our legs and clothing. Karen left detailed requests of tenants, which we both agreed we're respectable requests; though we felt the carpet and furniture could use a good cleaning; and upon arrival, found a kitchen towel and a rag on the kitchen floor, presumably an oversight on behalf of the cleaning crew. All in all we made the best of what initially was a disappointing landing at “basecamp”; because we are best friends and we choose to see the good in all things. Karen’s unit was in a pleasant location, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen was clean and well stocked; and if we had stayed longer, it’s nice that there is a washer and dryer. We found many lovely places to drive to meal locally , we loved the hosts personal artwork that decorated the walls, and we appreciated the proximity to downtown Portland and the Columbia River and take advantage of the heat to bask in the cool mists of the waterfall trails, and take in the breathtaking views of the Gorge. The location was great!

Jolin, First, thank you for taking good care of my home :) I’m so sorry that your vacation wasn’t everything that it could possibly be. It is unfortunate that you were there during the extended record breaking heat wave. And yes, I lost a few bushes in the front yard due to the heat wave (me and a lot of other people!). Regardless, the dying bushes really shouldn’t have impacted your stay. I could understand the heat in Portland and upstairs impacted your stay, but I’m glad the air conditioners were able to at least keep things at bay during that extreme extended heat. Usually, the windows are open in the evening with fresh air moving through the space with the exhaust fan in the kitchen. And I’m happy that the most important things one expects from a rental were good: a comfortable bed, a clean and well stocked place (other than the unfortunate dish towel and rag left on the floor in which was an oversight from the cleaning person), and that all of the photos accurately represent the space that is rented. I will look into the lights in the bedroom for reading. Possibly the chair from the bedroom could be moved to the living space for more conversational comfort. And, yes, a couple of the nice leather dining chairs have a rip, but not all of them. I have more chairs than needed up there, so one can choose where they want to sit. I am happy that I was able to accommodate you in your early arrival and gave you a quick response when you asked so you could make your plans. I am also happy that I checked in on you twice asking how everything was going. I was sorry that you never responded to me and then wrote this review without any communication with me. Especially because you were the second person who rented my space. The first was from AirBNB in which I received a 5 star review and he only had positive things to say about the space. I take very much pride in my home and my guests. Regardless, I’m glad you ultimately enjoyed your stay in my home and in Portland. And I hope the next time you come, it will not be so hot.
