Located on Akumal’s Half Moon Bay, this penthouse is the definition of low-key Caribbean luxury for up to 6 guests. Featuring all the modern comforts of home, this vacation rental is a magical getaway with dazzling views of the Caribbean Sea. Playa Blanca condominiums are one of Akumal’s landmark properties, renowned for their central location, spacious layout, and amazing views.

Located on the third floor, guests can gaze upon the beach and turquoise waters from the beachfront terrace, a fully equipped kitchen, breakfast bar, dining, and living areas. Large sliding glass doors bring plenty of natural light to enter, and when opened, welcome fresh ocean breezes flow. The large terrace is furnished with a table and chairs, and comfortable lounging.

Each one of the penthouse’s 3 bedrooms has an ensuite bath.

- The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and the second guest room has a queen-sized bed.

- The third suite has a king bed, a kitchenette, an entertainment center, private access, and a beautiful street-side view of the jungle.

You can access a number of adventures on foot or by bike. A shallow reef lies right in front of you for snorkeling and encountering tropical fish, rays, and the famous Akumal sea turtles. A ten-minute walk leads you to Yal-Ku lagoon, a cenote and large lagoon that blends fresh water with the ocean for a beautiful snorkeling experience away from the waves.

KINDLY NOTE: South winds may bring Sargasso Seaweed to some beaches throughout the Caribbean, including the Riviera Maya. While the situation is hard to predict for each specific week and area, we would like you to be aware that there is the potential to impact the beach and water entry.

The Riviera Maya is full of natural beauty, places to explore, and opportunities for outdoor activities. We have a great list of activities and adventures completely unaffected by the arrival of Sargasso that we would love to share with you. There is so much to see and do in this special place, and we know that you will have an amazing and memorable vacation!

This is an excellent 3rd story condo overlooking Akumal bay. The patio was great for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails with a great ocean breeze at all times keeping the condo cool and comfortable. Would definitely stay again! Management very responsive and helpful.

Great property, great week in Akumal!

Loved our week in Akumal. Awesome snorkeling with lots of Rays, turtles, and countless fish right off the shore. Cheryl provided some nice tips and the condo was really nicely decked out.

Amazing place

We had a wonderful time with our family at this condo. It was beautiful and very accommodating for our needs. The managers were very helpful with getting our keys when we came in later than expected. The views were outstanding. We would definately stay at this condo again if we decide to come back to Half Moon Bay.

Our Stay in Akumal

Specactular views from the unit, comfortable furniture and spacious living area. Appealing eclectic decor, and one of the nicest beaches in the area. Within walking distance to small stores, and La Buena Vida--a very nice affordable restaurant. Do your grocery shopping at the San Francisco Market near Tulum--20 kilometers, and visit the ruins while you're there.

Maid service unexpected bonus. Living room tv small. Beach in front of condo has rocky entrance into ocean. Snorkeling sights marginal in Halfmoon Bay. Best snorkeling on reefs by Tulum ruins. We loved the serenity of Halfmoon Bay. Playa Blanca 8 was perfection for our stay.

Plus, the condo itself was perfectly appointed and super comfortable!

Windy February

The property was excellent. There was a problem with the wind and the noise on our 3rd floor room facing the ocean. The wind howled 24/7. We were told that in February the winds can be particularly strong

Great place!

Enjoyed staying here. Daily cleaning was great. Overall cleanliness was fine. On a quiet road. Felt very safe. Shower was terrible especially in the evening no pressure at all. Really a trickle. Beach is very rocky. Half moon bay had good snorkeling. Not enough beach to throw a ball around. Need water shoes to walk in the water due to rocks and coral. Overall a nice stay.

Thank you for your review, David. I truly apologize for the shower problem you had. While the water pressure in our area of Mexico generally cannot compare to that in the States, a trickle is not acceptable and definitely not our norm. Management was notified and resolved the issue, and the guest following your stay said things were fine. I’m glad you had a nice stay in spite of that and hope to have you back sometime.

The huge balcony was a great place to have coffee, read, and just sit and look at the beauty surrounding us. While this was our third time in Akumal, it was our first time on the other side of the village and we absolutely loved walking into the village, to Yul-Ha, and had our choice of places to eat and drink only minutes away. Being able to snorkel right out front was an extra bonus. We couldn't have asked for anything better!

Perfect on every level

This unit could not have impressed us more. While we've visited Akumal several times we've never stayed. This place had all we were looking for and more. It accommodated our group perfectly (my husband and I, 2 kids 9 + 11, and my brother who used the little bachelor suite). Clean and airy with a view we'll be missing until we visit again! Akumal is always such a nice, quiet destination, and we mixed things up with a couple days trips to Tulum. The gentleman at the desk was so helpful in helping us rent a car each time, only $70 us per day. We enjoyed endless beach days, ate incredible food both at home and out, and spent a full day at Yal Ku Laguna which is always my favourite! Thank you so much to our hosts for sharing this gem, we will recommend highly to friends.

Beautiful condo in paradise!

This apartment is just perfect. It is sparkling clean and the cleaning staff come in each day to keep it that way. The view from the apartment's balcony is fabulous and the beach is right outside, which is perfect. The apartment's kitchen is very well equipped and there are many towels for home and beach use. The management is extremely helpful and responsive. The condo is beautifully decorated for a beachfront apartment and comfortable for hanging out inside and on the large balcony. The restaurant/bar down the road is super convenient and they are very nice there. The three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, make it a fantastic place for family (my husband and I had our two adult children and their partners with us). The kids are the ones who named this place (location and apartment) paradise! If you want to relax on the beach with family/friends and enjoy a special peaceful spot, this is the place for you.

RELAX in BEAUTIFUL and TRANQUIL surroundings: watching the sea and sky, listening to the waves

Thank you for letting us stay in your little corner of PARADISE for a while!!! Playa Blanca "numero ocho" (#8) was the perfect place for our family of 5 to stay. We absolutely fell in love with the calm, tranquil beauty of Akumal. The condo was just perfect! It was spacious and very well appointed. It had everything we needed and more. We LOVED looking from the bright, colorful interior right out to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean! BREATHTAKING! The landscaping and grounds were impeccable. The housekeeping was great. The owners of this unit went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and answered all of our questions; whether they were before we left the US or while we were down in Mexico. THANK YOU! We've shared our trip details with our friends (one group of 7 has already been down and enjoyed Playa Blanca) and we hope to return someday! Hasta Luega

Great Memories

Our family of seven had a wonderful vacation in Akumal. It lived up to our expectations in every way. The condo was perfect. It was very clean and well appointed. The views were amazing. We loved opening up the wall of sliding glass doors and letting in the ocean breeze. Breakfast on the balcony was a great way to start the day. The condo owner recommended a chef and he cooked us a great meal, with lots of leftovers. The owner was also very helpful in answering questions and providing information about the area. The maid and grounds keeper were friendly and helpful. The restaurants in the area were very good. We especially enjoyed lunch and ice cream at Lucy's and our favorite meals were at La Lunita, a short walk from the condo. We swam with the turtles at Akumal Bay and walked the beaches at Half Moon Bay by moonlight and saw turtles nesting!! We are still pinching ourselves to make sure it wasn't all a dream!

Happy place by the ocean

Every time my wife and I think about our stay in Akumal we smile. We had a very nice stay. The accommodations were perfect for our group of 5. We were two couples and my mom. My mom has dietary restrictions so we cooked everyday. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed to cook our own meals. Our neighbors commented that it always smell so wonderful on our side of the complex. We bought groceries at the Soriana in Playa. The unit was clean and well maintained, the grounds were also very clean. We appreciated the maid service, a small daily tip kept her happy the whole week. We felt safe and secure. From the condo we made excursions to Chichenitza, Coba and Tolum. We also went shopping at Playa and swam with the Turtles at the public beach in Akumal. At night the sound of the ocean and the wind lulled us to sleep. We can't wait to go back!

Mexico Getaway

Beach access has great sand and is cleaned each morning. Easy parking. Cons: Stove did not work you could smell the gas but would not lite. Showers are huge but terrible water pressure. Small little ants in kitchen. Didn't realize the third bedroom is not attached at all. The wind bangs the hurricane shutters around all night taking away from the ocean noise. Third floor provides nice view but a huge work out when bring stuff up and down. No pool..looks like there was one at one time. Over all nice condo with large porch for stairing out at the beautiful sea.

Wonderful & Relaxing!!

From the moment we opened the door to our last minute before departing, we just relaxed. The view from the unit is fantastic--sunrise on the beach or balcony and sunsets up top with a glass of wine--Sweet! We found the owners to be very informative, helpful, responsive, and very easy to communicate with. The accommodations were wonderful and the unit was one of the best regarding provisions--the only thing we needed was a cooler which we obtained at the local store. Cleaning services were exceptional and all personnel were very pleasant! All the restaurants seemed to be reasonably prices and the food very good--each has it's unique flavor. Akumal beach was the best for snorkeling (turtles, rays, & many fish) and a long beach walk, though we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the beach right outside the condo where the majority of our beach time was spent. La Buena Vida--good food, great prices, and an unforgettable seat overlooking the water. Rarely did we miss happy hour from 5-7 (half prices off all drinks) and yes, we did order each of their specialty drinks over the time of our stay--fantastic! If you are looking for a location that is peaceful with a beautiful view and walking distance along the beach to a wonderful beach bar and restaurant, then you've found it. The owners were fantastic with no "surprises" except that the unit, location, and view were even better than we anticipated! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Lovely decor, excellent staff, and unbeatable view

The condo was perfect for our grown-up family getaway. We stayed for 11 nights and found the space gave just the right amount of privacy. The condo has many thoughtful touches from plastic containers for your leftovers to flashlights for evening walks and even a first-aid kit for our adventurous group. (Yes, we needed it - twice!) We spent many evenings dining and playing games at the gorgeous dining table and watched the sunrise from the balcony or rooftop. There were plenty of towels, extra snorkeling gear (we only used one item as we'd brought our own), and plenty of lounge chairs on the beach. When a question arose for the owner we received a reply within hours. And, when we mentioned a broken screen to the staff, it was fixed immediately. They even went above and beyond to help us with arrangements when our flight was cancelled and acted as interpreters on a number of occasions. We rented bicycles from the main office - it was quick and easy - and the bikes were much nicer than other options in Half Moon Bay. In short: we hope to visit again and highly recommend this fantastic vacation rental! PS: The only complaint... Two in our group wished for a softer mattress, so if your preference is for a cushy pillowtop, be sure to ask about it.

Great Location

Great 3rd floor condo right on the water. There is two bedrooms inside and a separate stand alone room right outside the front door. This room has its own bathroom, a.c... mircrowave, 5 gallons of bottled water etc... The condo has amazing views and right in the dead middle of the bay. This section of Akumal hasnt really changed in the last 40 years. Its a sleepy little area with an amazing cenote feedig water in the lagoon as it meets the bay. Which makes for awesome snorkeling. There are seveal small restaurants in this area that are walking distance. But we rented a golf cart for $45 usd for a day. The area is safe and super laid back. So if you are looking for clubs, etc... this is not the place for you. But if you are looing for super nice people. good restaurants, snorkeling in the bay or lagoon, and with some very nice accomdations then this is your getaway. Note... the kitchen is very well appointed. Lots of snorkel gear from past guests. Beds were comfy and daily maid service. We chose to go during May and sargasm was rolling in heavy into the bay. Which we knew and did not care. The north and south side of the bay did not have sargasm nor did the cenote/lagoon area. Bring water shoes to walk out a 100 plus yards into the bay as its shallow but rocky. Oh and the management company that manages this condo is honest and informative. Last thing is that its 3rd floor up several flights of stairs and no elevator. So you have to carry your luggage and be fit enough.

Perfect location with wonderful condo

The condo is absolutely beautiful! Not only is the view incredible from almost every room - including the bathroom - the condo itself is terrific. It is decorated with the local artwork and feels like a home, not a rental. It is quite spacious and comes fully stocked. The grounds crew are wonderful, with the added bonus of no bugs all week. Having the huge jug of purified water is an added bonus, along with the lovely decanters in each bathroom. We snorkeled every day, starting right out front into Half Moon Bay. Besides the incredible fish and coral, I swam with squid and sting rays. Akumal Bay, a short walk south, has another nice reef with sea grass which the turtles enjoy, so we were lucky enough to swim above feeding green sea turtles. If you are a beginner or want completely flat water, the lagoon to the north of the condo is perfect for that, but there is a fee (and there is no coral), but it is like swimming in an aquarium due to the wide variety of fish. Miguel is fabulous as a guide or for transportation. Many wonderful sights to see for a 1/2 day excursion . Ruins and cenotes are a must! Recommend getting to ruins when they open to beat the crowds - which makes a huge difference on the experience. (Rent bikes at Copa!) We went on a tight budget, and ate mostly in the condo with it's perfect view. There is also a fabulous patio on the top of the building for watching the sunset over the jungle, star gazing or just hanging out with the views of diving pelicans into the incredible blue waters. I can't say enough nice things about everyone involved from the personal attention Cheryl and Don gave us, throughout the entire process, to hugging Miguel good bye at the airport.
