Bamboo Cottage is for nature lovers, set in a lush garden within a five minute walk to the sea. The cottage is nestled among palms and clusters of tall bamboo. Adding to the tranquillity, as the sway and rustle of these trees make music in the Caribbean breeze.

The Cottage is on two levels, the large verandah entrance leads into the open plan kitchen and living area which is well stocked, an island wth a gas range, a convection oven and microwave for cooking. Also an additional shower is located on the verandah for
your return from the beach or the pool. A spiral staircase goes up to the bedroom with an 'open plan bathroom' . Also another verandah off the bedroom which looks thru the bamboo out to sea
and the yachts in Falmouth Harbour.

Falmouth Harbour is the centre of the yachting industry in Antigua & Barbuda. This is on the southwestern side of the island and is the home of the internationally famous Classic Regatta followed by Antigua Sailing Week. Also a five minute drive to the beautiful Pidgeon Beach, Shirley Heights Lookout (Antigua's National Park) and Historic Nelson's Dockyard.

Bamboo Garden: The owner lives on the upper floor of Bamboo House, which is on the other side of the property from the cottage, However the property has been cleverly designed to give everyone their own access and privacy, while having the security of knowing there is someone around should you need any assistance.

The property has a very romantic and relaxed feeling and an ideal place to just sit back and enjoy, also a good base from which to do your exploring of the island.

Little piece of paradise

Couldn't fault the place 2nd time we have stayed and it won't be the last. Joanne is extremely helpful and literally knows everything related to antigua nothing she doesn't know!Very clean cottage with all the amenities you will need gorgeous garden and pool area

Fantastic Stay

We loved the cottage and property. It was the perfect home base for our stay in Antigua. We had everything we needed and Joanne was a wonderful host! Highly recommend!

Beautiful Property

The bamboo cottage was a perfect getaway. The lush garden with birds and lizards greeting you for morning coffee. The pool is so amazing feels like you are tucked away in your own little escape.

Great stay

Lovely surroundings, gracious and helpful host. Idyllic setting with relatively easy drive to Falmouth Harbor. Bedroom up flight of circular stairs with bathroom on second floor.

Bamboo cottage

Simply awesome, quiet, surrounded by birds, turtles, lizards and of course the mosquitoes (come prepared). The pool was great also, our host was very helpful and friendly. It was great all around. Coming back to English Harbor after 25+ years, I must say English Harbor still the best place to be on the island. I didn’t want to leave and I’ll come back and would recommend “Bamboo cottage” to friends and family. Thanks you Christophe

Incredible vacation enhanced by the most accommodating owner!

The cottage is so beautiful and peaceful. I loved our recent trip. My only problem was with the mosquitos! Joanne was such a gracious host and goes out of her way to help you out.

Fabulous Falmouth

Perfect place for us to spend 10 nights. Beautiful tropical garden with a lovely secluded pool area. You could just about manage without a car if you wanted to, but definitely better to have one. We spent our days exploring the coastal hikes, discovering the many hidden away beaches and remote coves, or having a more relaxed time spent around the pool or visiting the less remote beaches with restaurants and other facilities. For the evenings, there is a popular bar / restaurant called Cloggy's in the local marina, only 10 min walk away, or short drive to the vibrant Falmouth Harbour / Nelson's Dockyard area for bars, restaurants and clubs.Our host Joanne was lovely and always available if you needed any help.

Perfect Caribbean Getaway

Charming experience

Joanne is a wonderful host. Be sure to check with her for your transportation recommendations as she has excellent contacts. She is very attentive without being intrusive. Good recommendations for places to eat and places to visit. The cottage is perfectly appointed. We hated to leave.

Beautiful Property and Amazing Hospitality!

My wife and I had a wonderful time in Antigua, especially at Bamboo Cottage. For those travelers who aren't into "touristy" resorts and like to be more independent, this is the perfect spot. Joanne's hospitality was above and beyond, and we felt at home during our one week stay. Not only did she provide us daily directions around the island, but had excellent recommendations for dining and activities. If we ever have the good fortune of coming back, we would definitely stay here...thanks again Joanne!

Gorgeous Lush Bungalow!

This is by far the coolest rental I have stayed in. From the time we arrived at the heart cutout on the front gate to saying goodbye to the puppies and hummingbirds, we were in love! Joanne was a gracious host and even had rum punch waiting for us when we arrived (which was necessary after the snowy travel we endured earlier that day). She helped us get a rental car which i would absolutely recommend and navigated us around Antigua's best spots! We cant wait to come back <3.

Perfect Getaway! Will be back...

Bamboo Cottage, Antigua (Falmouth Harbour), and Joanne's hospitality surpassed all expectations and was one our best vacations ever! The cottage is very private, clean, fully stocked, and set in a beautiful garden. We loved evenings in the hammock on the deck and early morning swims. There is a nice beach about 5 minutes away but the highlight of our trip was the beach at Rendezvous Bay. It is only accessible by 4x4, but we had the entire bay to ourselves for most of the days. There is amazing hiking along the coast a short drive from the cottage and great waterfront seafood restaurants (Sunra was our fav). I also recommend a private sailing charter - Joanne has lots of great recommendations.

Tropical paradise

It is difficult not to repeat the sentiments of previous reviews. We had a wonderful 10 days at Bamboo cottage. As soon as you open the gates you are in your own secluded bit of paradise. This was our first time visiting the Caribbean and we felt fortunate to have stayed in this ideal location. Joanne is so helpful and a fantastic host. The information she share allowed us to fully appreciate the island in the time we had. As other people have mentioned, a car is a must and preferably a 4x4 to experience the whole island. Thank you Joanne for sharing your home with us.

Sublime Accommodations

Bamboo Cottage is top-notch in every way. The well laid-out cottage and amenities make you feel at home right away. The wonderful breeze and swaying bamboos and palms are restorative. The peaceful garden and the varieties of hummingbirds, bananaqit and other birds will keep you delighted right from your own porch. The pool is well set amongst shade trees and a very generous size. And so refreshing on hot day! It's truly hard to leave the Cottage to go exploring beyond. Thank you Joanne for creating such a peaceful oasis and for all the knowledge and tips you shared with us to make our trip so enjoyable. We would return in a heartbeat!

Wonderful Find

We had the most relaxing stay with Joanne being the perfect host, Always on hand for advice and help. The house is typically Caribbean and the garden is just gorgeous with the cottage hidden away for privacy. We loved Joanne’s menagerie of tortoises, little dog and friendly cat, and enjoyed spending hours watching the bananaquits, bullfinches and hummingbirds gather at the feeder on the verandah. The house is ideally placed for the harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard, with lots of lovely places to eat and drink and watch the sunset. St. John’s is about half an hour away on somewhat dodgy roads, Recommend an SUV as the road to the house is somewhat pot holed and rocky. Would highly recommend. We hope to return.

Bamboo Cottage Antigua

We spent a week at Bamboo Cottage in February 2011 and relaxed in what was essential our own private island retreat. The cottage is set privately on the property surrounded by a wonderful garden and the pool was ours to use at will. The cottage is well kept and the breeze in the second floor bedroom made it very comfortable for sleeping. Joanne is very hospitable and was able to provide lots of information about local restaurants and activities. English Harbour has alot of night life. The restaurants are good and we would recommend The Mad Mongoose and Cloggy's. If you are interested in snorkelling you can snorkel off the beach at Galleon Beach (at the base of Shirley's Heights on the east side of the bay opposite Nelson's Harbour). Great fish, soft corals and some hard corals. This was a wonderful place to stay.

Excellent choice for a relaxing Caribbean vacation

It was our first trip to Antigua. We very much enjoyed the island. The people are friendly, the beaches are beautiful and Uncrowded, the scenery is lovely. our stay at Bamboo cottage could not have been better. The wide porch is perfect for breakfast while watching the hummingbirds at the feeder. The kitchen has everything you need and there is a gas grill if you are so inclined. The bed was very comfortable and the cottage is charming. The garden surrounding is lush and beautiful and although the pool is shared, we were the only ones to use it during our stay. The owner Joanne was extremely helpful and friendly. You are very close to English harbor with plenty of restaurants. Our linens and towels were changed halfway into our one week stay which is really over and above and very much appreciated. Highly recommend. You can’t go wrong staying here.

Great tropical paradise

Thank you Joanne. You were a marvelous host along with Max and Rosie. We really enjoyed our 2 week stay at your cottage. It was one of the nicest vacations we've experienced. Your cottage really is a "home away from home". It certainly is much nicer than resort holidaying. We appreciated all of the extras you provided, tangible and intangible,for example the beach chairs, cooler and ice packs which made going to the beach so comfortable. We appreciated your friendliness and concern for our well being. We miss watching the bananaquits while having our morning coffee on your sunny verandah. What a great way to start the day. Please give Max and Rosie a pat on the head from us. We hope to come back again, Karin and Martin from snowy Toronto.

The BEST place to stay!

Our stay at Bamboo Cottage was WAY more than we could have expected! We spent a week (Jan 9-16, 2016). The owner, Joanne, is the best hostess you could ask for! All of her recommendations were spot on and we enjoyed them all immensely. It is the perfect combination of relaxing, lush tropical setting, but close to amenities and lovely beaches. We so enjoyed watching the King of Hummingbirds defend his feeder from the front porch of the cottage. The cottage is very well equipped. We actually cooked or grilled most evenings. The items available to take to the beach were wonderful - chairs, cooler, drinks cooler. It makes it so much easier than having to think about transporting that type of thing with you or buying it once there. We definitely plan to go back and stay again (and again.....). Joanne has so many repeat renters that you know you have found a wonderful vacation spot and to look no further! I cannot recommend enough!

Relaxation Destination

This was our first visit to Antigua, and our first venture into a non-resort vacation. We stayed 10 days at Bamboo Cottage. The pool, grounds and house were delightful. I especially enjoyed the hammock on the porch. Joanne was thoughtful, helpful and non-intrusive. She was a great ambassador for Antigua; a wealth of knowledge and with many recommendations. Two stores within walking distance: Bailey's grocery and Crabhole Liquors - both worth a visit. Shirley Heights Sunday night a must! We visited in off season, so some restaurants/svcs were not available however Trappas in Falmouth and Roti King in St. John's were open and both were favourites. A visit to St. John's recommended, but truthfully, the many beaches are the stars! Rendevous, Half Moon Bay and Turner Beach were all fantastic. Public Transit is an adventure; local taxi driver Jason was great. Privacy, beauty, relaxation with a dash of adventure. Thank you Joanne.

We were thrilled with the property. The photos do not due it justice.

Bamboo Cottage was like our own personal paradise. The lush secluded grounds were magnificent. Joanne is a fabulous host who is welcoming and informative, however she provides you with space and privacy. It is a delicate balance that she maintains so well. The delicious snack tray and rum punch upon arrival were very much appreciated after our journey. We had the pleasure of being in Antigua during mango season. Not only did Joanne provide us with a number of mangoes, she shared her knowledge on how to properly cut them. It was a first for me. We appreciated all the extra items that were included, especially the beach chairs and towels. Nightly swims in the pool were such an added perk. Thank you Joanne for sharing your beautiful oasis with us. We highly recommend this adorable, well appointed cottage. It made our trip to Antigua perfect. Barbara and John

Tranquil and tropical, in true Caribbean style

The property is in a fantastic location and an ideal base for exploring the island. Set amongst beautiful tropical gardens with its own pool it offers a luxury, rustic style accommodation with all mod cons, iron/board, coffee maker, towels including beach towels and even a cool box and snorkelling gear to use. Joanne really has thought of everything and is the perfect host. She’s is always on hand if you need her and is full of useful information and tips. She made us several reservations at restaurants and booked day trips for us on request whilst maintaining our privacy at all times. We somehow managed to leave a phone behind and Joanne went out of her way to return it to us, she even drove to the other side of the island to deliver it to the courier to ensure it’s safe return. We highly recommend Bamboo cottage and Joanne and can’t wait to return. Some of our highlights include feeding the resident tortoises, watching the beautiful birds in the garden and Joanne’s lovely dogs Max and Rosie. Thanks for everything Joanne, we miss you guys and can’t wait to return!

Gorgeous, relaxing, and beautiful vacation!

Bamboo Cottage and Joanne just made our vacation an unforgettable one. The cottage is very comfortable, cozy and well maintained. The beautiful garden that surrounds it just makes you feel in paradise. You can either relax in the porch sipping coffee, or in the hammock listening to the birds, or sitting at the pool while enjoying the beautiful nature. The cottage is very well located, close to English Harbour, Nelsons Dockyard, several beaches which are a must Pigeon Beach, Halfmoon Bay, Rendezvous Bay (absolutely worth the trip). You can either buy your groceries close to the cottage, or eat out in one of the nice places in English Harbour. You should definitely rent a car, even better if you get a 4x4. Driving is totally relaxing and the scenery is breath taking. Last but not least Joanne is the perfect host. She will help you all the way from your trip planning to the last minute. She will make sure you will enjoy your stay! She has great tips, great produce from the market, a great property and a great smile that she always shares with you! Thanks Joanne, you really made our vacation a very special one.

Joanne, your host is a Canadian who has been living in Antigua for the past 24 years. She is an avid gardener and the property reflects this. Another of Joanne's passion is food, for over 12 years she ran a restaurant she started in the harbour. Having sold the restaurant she now turns her attention to the maintenance of her garden and growing mico herbs for the restaurants & yacht chefs. Want to feel at home, Joanne is your best host!
