Bring your blue ray discs, connect your iPods, stream movies on Netflix or surf you tube. NEW 60 inch large screen LED 1080P HD Streaming Wifi TV in living room two other HD TV's in bedrooms. The double master bedroom with baths one upstairs and one on the main level is perfect for 2 couples or a family of four. A bonus computer room can be used for work or play or as an extra place to sleep. Additional two very comfortable queen size inflatable mattress is available. You will feel so comfortable in this mountain retreat that you'll never want to leave. The scenery is breathtaking. Unlike many mountain cabin homes in the area which are beautiful but remote and rugged, Black Bear combines privacy with easy access to the home and to all the town of Black Mountain and the Blue Ridge has to offer. The home is within town limits and has paved all weather access roads. The Sun room is light and bright. The best place enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding woods, mountains, and wild life. Two Skylights with motorized shades let the sunshine in and keep things warm and bright in the fall and winter months. Two large covered decks on two floors allow you to enjoy the natural beauty or sit in a rocking chair sipping a bottle of wine and watching the sun go down over the mountain horizon.

This place is adorable with lots of cute spaces to relax. The sun room was perfect for an afternoon of reading and relaxing. Loved having a garage to park in and large full kitchen for food prep. Would definitely stay here again.

Thanks Donna for staying at Black Bear Retreat. I love the sunroom my personal favorite. Its especially nice in the fall to watch the leaves change. Think of BBR as your home away from home.

The setting was nice and the location excellent. The house was somewhat musty before we opened windows. The beds were comfortable and the technology worked well. The kitchen had everything we needed for the stay.

We loved our stay! We were there 5 weeks. Our host was fantastic and even gave us restaurants and hiking trails. The kitchen is fully stocked!!!! I cooked like I was at home and had everything I needed. The house was so clean. The beds were comfortable and the TV’s worked great and were in every room!!! It’s peaceful and beautiful there , everything In Town was only a mile away!! It was perfectMark and Shawn Pilato

Thanks Shawn for the thorough review. Its a little piece of country heaven in the "town and country" of Black Mountain. I hope you are able to stay again in the future. Fall is an even more spectacular time to see the colors change and hike the Blue ridge. We like to provide a little bit of everything at a fair value.

Worked out perfectly for our group. Some quirks and flaws in presentation, but this was the right place for our group and a good value!Read the listing carefully! I missed that the "third bed" was actually two available air mattresses, but these mattresses were high quality and self-inflating, working fine for us.Kitchen had most of what we needed for moderate cooking, the TV was quite large, and having an enclosed garage was wonderful. Beds (at least the one I was in) were comfortable. The location is close to town and there are neighbors, but it's just secluded enough for comfortable privacy. We had no major issues!The property does have a handful of rough edges.-There are *lots* of unlabeled light switches throughout the property, and they are not intuitive. There are some lights I'm not sure we ever figured out how to turn on, and several switches don't seem to do anything.-The lighting throughout the property is inconsistent and sometimes inadequate - the upstairs bedroom is lit by two overhead fans with different color bulbs, the upstairs bathroom has three light fixtures yet *still* never feels well-lit, etc. -The driveway has a very sharp dropoff with no working lights to mark it; pay attention!-There was unsorted laundry in the dryer, and only 2 spare trash bags under the sink. Not major issues at all, just flaws in presentation.Some things could be improved, but absolutely would stay again.

We’re labeling every light switch (many are older two-way style, which explains the ones that seemed to do nothing), checking the driveway lights and adding reflective markers at the drop-off, and tightening up our turnover checks. We were extremely pleased with the property! It was very spacious, comfortable, and had everything we could ask for and more. The location was close to town to make everything accessible but still remote enough for our taste. The layout of the house worked very well for us. We enjoyed being able to gather together in the family room or seek a quiet place to read in the sunroom, or on the outdoor deck. The kitchen was well stocked with what we needed. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of covers and a selection of pillows to choose from. Our only complaint was that we didn't have more time to stay!

Loved our weekend stay at Black Bear Retreat! The house was clean and comfortable, convenient to everything downtown, and had beautiful woods surrounding it making it really private. I actually hated to leave. :) Will have to rent for longer next time.

If you would have reached out I could have walked you through to get the channels and find towels. We have video streaming al la carte and also basic cable channels for you at no additional cost. We have a full pantry of towels not sure what happened there either.

Great accommodations!

Excellent place! The owner was extremely accommodating when I had a question upon arrival. The location is perfect. Very close to downtown Black Mountain and easily accessible to Asheville. It was just right for my family to enjoy a quick trip to the mountains.

Second Stay

This is a lovely place and was our second time staying there. It could use some updating but is very comfortable and has everything you really need. The house is in a lovely, quiet, and convenient location.

Great house in an adorable little town

We spent a lovely weekend at the Black Bear Retreat. The house was just as described, and had everything we needed. Black Mountain is such a quaint little town, and it was super close to Asheville. We really enjoyed ourselves and are so glad that we stayed at the Black Bear Retreat!

Thanks for staying with us. The location of the home is ideal for excursions into Asheville and rides on the Blue ridge. One of my favorite places to go are the Craggy Gardens off the Blue Ridge and the NC Arboretum both are quite close to Black Bear Retreat.

Excellent as always

This was our sixth time here! We keep returning because it is a wonderful house, impeccably clean, and a pleasure to stay in. And Black Mountain has a beautiful little lake and interesting shops and restaurants.

We had a wonderful stay. This property is wonderful. Quiet street, lovely setting and the home is beautiful. Had a wonderful sunroom perfect for early morning coffee or reading a book. I highly recommend.

I worked as an attorney in Miami. I am a licensed realtor and travel often cross country. I am 57 years old. My wife and I have been married 24 years. I am self employed and enjoy considerable scheduling flexibility. We like to get away on long weekends. Longer trips will usually happen in the Spring and Summer. There is also some time for us on spring break in March or Winter break in December to travel. We enjoy traveling to new places in our small RV. We have two beautiful daughters ages, 24 and 22. We enjoy the great outdoors but also enjoy museums and touring new cities. This home is available on short notice.

I was looking for a total getaway home that did not compromise privacy for convenience or space for amenities or views for location. Black Bear delivers more than your typical cabin in the woods. I can walk or bike into downtown Black Mountain for groceries or other provisions. I can park my RV out front or my cars in the two car garage. I can walk with the kids to the lake and the community pool. I can start hikes into the surrounding mountains within minutes from my home. I was looking for a place to relax and unwind to enjoy mountain sunsets from my decks and hear the sounds of nature and not the sounds of traffic or neighbors. Bird watch from my backyard decks. Eat your meals "al fresco" every night as you watch the sunset. I wanted to have a modern home with all the modern high tech conveniences. I did not want to settle for a 'Spartan' mountain cabin with limited or unpaved road access, internet access or spotty phone service. I wanted to have plenty of room for guests. I wanted a place to start my day trips into the Blue Ridge without having to worry about paved access, long winding gravel roads or adverse weather conditions. I wanted a home where AC in the Summer is strictly optional but four seasons can be enjoyed. Fall season at Black Bear is stunning and Winter season is mostly mild with some post card perfect snow showers.

I wanted a place within a day trip of all the Nature activities Western NC has to offer. Black Bear has delivered for me I know it will for you as well.

You are able to walk or bike to downtown or take your golf clubs cross the street and play golf at the stunning Black Mountain public golf course. A full service gym (Chesire) is a 5 minute drive or 15 min bike ride away. A picnic on the Blue Ridge Parkway one of America's most scenic highways is only a 10 minute drive away. Bring your fishing rod as lake Tomahawk is less than a 15 minute walk from the retreat. Go to Montreat and climb lookout mountain.
