Downtown Highlands - Walk Everywhere

Welcome to Highlands, North Carolina! If you're looking for a VRBO that is walking distance to most everything, then look no further. Lose yourself in the luxury and sophistication that Highlands has long been known for as a guest at our apartment.

Light and bright, the open concept creates a cozy yet spacious experience where you can relax or entertain in a modern meets rustic setting. Features include a fully equipped kitchen with gas range and granite counter tops, office nook for a working vacation, oak floors in the living area, laundry room with iron/ironing board, two porches and private parking for two vehicles.

In addition to the king size bed in the bedroom, we also have an EZ Bed Air Mattress elevated on legs with a cozy mattress topper for an additional 1-2 guests that can be set up in the living area, if needed.

A fun fact; the living area was once the dining hall of an old estate home situated above Founders Park. The pulley windows and coffered ceilings bring in the old Highlands character that is now hard to find. The apartment is on the second floor of a two story building, located above our Green Mountain Builders office.

As transplants to the area, we understand how easy it is to fall in love with Highlands and the surrounding area. As a real estate broker and builder, we are happy to help should you decide it's time for your own slice of paradise.

As all the other reviews said the location was perfect we walked to everything, but it was still very quiet and private. We enjoyed the covered porch and there was even a gate to keep the dog in. The towels linens and bed were very comfortable. I was concerned that there were no pictures of the bathroom but it was nice with a new walk in shower and and heated floors.

A tree branch is touching the corner of the building above the stairs. The wind caused it to loudly knock against the wall all day/night The light in the bedroom ceiling fan flickers if you leave it on for more than several minutes Bed needs new pillows

Another amazing stay, and another amazing set of renovations! We never tire of this wonderful place, and each time seems to bring something new. This time fresh stairs, a beautiful front door, a covered porch and gorgeous new roofline, along with central heating / air conditioning.

Accommodations were lovely. Quite spacious and clean. Love the covered front deck. Location is perfect to walk to historic downtown with amazing restaurants and shops. Owners were very gracious.

Great location. Short walk to Main St and on the way to Cashiers and hiking. Lots of space. More than enough for a couples weekend getaway. We would go back.

The location can’t be beat - easy walk to wonderful restaurants and shopping on the Main Street. Owners recently installed central air conditioning and heat making it super easy to be comfortable. Also provided a new larger, “smarter” TV. (We have stayed here multiple times.) It is like a home in the trees. Very comfortable.

Great location. Convenient for downtown walking distance. The description of the location was not accurate was off the road and the outside of the property did not match the picture. Suggest more information and updated picture. Bathroom needs an update. Sink did not drain and toilet seat needs replacing. Obviously a lot of upgrades to property would recommend a little more investment in these areas would improve experience. Overall we had a great weekend and would consider returning.

This is a great place with recent updates. I especially liked the roomy, breezy front porch. My Dad is 90 and he had some trouble getting from the ground to the first step, but the steps were new with good railing. We enjoyed our wedding weekend in Highlands. I recommend walking over to The Blue Bike Cafe for brunch. I really needed a doc-friendly place and this worked out well for us.

This was in the best location to meet all of our needs. We could walk to parks, restaurants and the lovely community center for swimming and pickle ball. The accommodations met all ours needs and was clean and quiet.

Excellent Location

Returning guests to this conveniently located property. Owners have added a phenomenal new covered porch which makes for a lovely spot to hang out. In addition, owners have resided the outside, replaced windows and have plans to replace the front door and add central heating and A/C.Location is excellent, an easy walk into Highlands shops and restaurants.Overall, a very positive stay and experience!

Best location, quality, and value

We just returned from our third stay at this perfect apartment in Highlands. It’s our little slice of heaven. The location is an easy stroll from town. The inside is tastefully decorated and has everything you need for a great time. We don’t cook much while in town, but the kitchen seems to be well stocked. We always appreciate the front and back porches and this year they have added a covered roof to the front porch. You won’t find a better location with such comfortable accommodations. Throw in that it’s affordable and you understand why we love it. Thank you to Mary and her equally great husband. We will be back!

Beautiful place so close to shopping

We had a lovely stay. I loved being able to leave the car and walk everywhere. The home was lovely with LOTS of room for a 1 bedroom. Towels and linens were very nice and the bed was super comfortable. Host was very nice and easy to communicate with. Would absolutely stay again.

Great Place!

Me and my husband and my small dog had a great getaway. This place was perfect for the three of us. Decorated so cute and very cozy. It is perfect location for access to downtown. Will definitely stay again!!

Cute, cozy, perfect location!

The cutest, coziest location for a Highlands getaway. Walkable to everything, clean, comfortable, easy booking and communication. Shower supplies would have been appreciated, but I may have missed that in the listing. Will definitely stay here again, hopefully VERY soon!

We moved to the area in 2001 and have since become established in both the Highlands and Cashiers communities professionally as a Realtor (Mary with Berkshire Hathaway) and a builder (Steve with Green Mountain Builders). Originally from Florida, it was easy to acclimate to the cooler summer temperatures and appreciate the fall colors. We have two children, two golden retrievers and two cats. In addition to real estate and building, we also have a yoga and wellness center in Cashiers (Fusion Yoga and Wellness) and Bungalow Boutique, a lifestyle store.

We love mountain life!

We purchased this property in 2007 when we were looking for office space for our businesses. The fact that there was an apartment upstairs was an absolute bonus. After some renovations, we initially rented the apartment out on a long-term basis for the first several years but decided to make the switch to vacation rentals and have been glad we did so. It's been a great place for family, friends and clients to stay when it's not rented.
