ABOUT THE APARTMENT:
Located on the boardwalk upstairs of the building, the Hamel's Castle is an oceanfront luxurious unit. It has a spacious 440 sq ft furnished terrace and breathtaking views. The location by itself is priceless. The apartment is right on the boardwalk and a couple steps away from the famous Belmont Park. There are retailers downstairs and many shops around, bars, restaurants, pizzerias, etc. Starbucks is on the corner. Downtown San Diego is easy to reach from here by car (15 minutes) and so are most of San Diego's attractions such as Sea World (5 minutes), Legoland (30 minutes) and the San Diego Zoo (20 minutes) on light traffic day.

This comfortable apartment offers everything you need right on the beach. You will enjoy the nicest sunset or just the beach atmosphere in the beautiful Mission Beach in San Diego. The apartment features a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, slab granite counters, a pantry, and designer finishes throughout. The living room area opens up to a spacious private balcony on the 1st floor that offers lots of seating and a beautiful ocean view. Washer and dryer in-unit.

Sleeping arrangements include one king bed and two queen beds plus a futon sofa in the living room. This apartment will accommodate up to 8 people - considering that 2 people will sleep in the living room on the futon (kids preferably). No private parties with more than maximum occupancy are allowed in the unit. Maximum capacity is not to be exceeded.

Parking:
One car garage detached but inside of the castle.

We are located inside the Hamels castle at the first floor. There are 20-25 steps on the stairs No elevator. No handicapped access. Sorry, this is an old building.

There are security cameras surrounding the building, Verizon antenna and power generator in the building.

Here are some details about Mission Beach and surrounding areas to help you with your decision to stay in Mission Beach:

Mission-Beach is a San Diego favorite among locals and visitors alike. It lies between Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean and has nearly two miles of beautiful white sandy beach. The area is filled with pastel-colored houses, condos, old style cottages, beach apartments and hotels. The colorful Boardwalk at Mission Beach runs for three miles ending north of Pacific Beach and is always filled with bicyclists, runners, skateboarders and rollerblades, and has designated lanes for walking. You can engage in people-watching and sunbathing on Mission Beach, or the more strenuous activities of swimming, surfing, body boarding, and kayaking. The southern part of Mission Beach is known for its' beach volleyball. To the east lies Mission Bay, which contains two islands with many coves and inlets, and has a large marina for pleasure boaters, and facilities for picnics, camping and fishing. One special point of interest at Mission Beach is Belmont Park, once the site of an amusement park that now is home to shops and restaurants, and a completely restored roller coaster. This 73-foot wooden roller coaster called the 'Big Dipper' was built in 1925, closed in 1976 and reopened in 1990. Everything is convenient for visitors to Mission Beach; just two blocks east are coffeehouses, fast food, taco shops, ethnic food or fine dining. Bicycles are available for rent on the Boardwalk right below the unit, located inside a Mission Beach historical landmark: The Hamels Castle!
Note: Mission Beach is also known as the place for young groups; if you are noise sensitive you probably should research more before making a commitment to stay in this area. We are in the middle of the action. I am not kidding!

Great time at the castle

The castle was great!! Claudia was super to work with and had everything ready upon our arrival. I definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great place to stay with family and friends.

Great Experience and great view

This place is in a great location on the boardwalk and near Belmont but is elevated above the boardwalk so you still have some privacy. Interior is renovated and has all the amenities you could ask for. Highly recommend this place!

Awesome, fun beach location! Perfect for families and grilling outdoors

Wonderful place for family vacation; would have been fun for just adults too! Great jogging and restaurants/activities; close to the zoo also. Kids loved the roller coaster and rides in the "back yard". Highly recommended

Beatiful location

We were 7 ladies staying at the castle, and it was a great location with a perfect patio and the condo was well stocked. One lady had to stay on the couch and I would say this condo is perfect for up to 6 people.

Great location, beautiful ocean views and a very comfortable place to stay.

Claudia and her staff are excellent and very responsive to any concerns. The location is perfect, right next to Belmont Park and several places to eat. The BBQ at the Coaster Bar is worth a trip by itself. We have stayed at the Castle 4 or 5 times and will do so again in future trips to San Diego.

You really can’t do better than this location. Close to everything FUN! Great place and HUGE balcony. Get ready for sunset central. We will be back for sure!

Amazing Beachfront Property in the heart of Mission Beach

Excellent location, close to many activities and restaurants. Incredible people watching. Everything you could want in a beach vacation. Property was even nicer than photos. All amenities you could possibly need were included. Many things we brought with us were already in the property.

Amazing vacation!

The house was clean and beautiful! The best part is you don't have to cook if you don't want to, burgers, tacos ,salads everything you want is below and of course Ice Cream. Great Sushi restaurant just a few doors down. There are a lot of people on the boardwalk but being up on the patio keeps you away from everything. And the view is fantastic! My kids loved it! My son loved being close to the rollercoaster:) Thank you Claudia for always picking up your phone for any questions we had. The shop below gives 20% off purchases because you are staying above and they are very helpful

Firewood smoke

It was a great place to stay and the location awesome... the only negative which isn’t really bothersome, we weren’t able to keep any doors or windows open to get any fresh air, because of the firewood and marijuana smells and knowing how sensitive the owner is to getting smoke smell inside the house. It was a great concern because the smells were so strong and we were worried the smell would come inside and owner would think we caused the smell. Other then that, everything was great.

Great beach condo!

We loved our stay at the castle! The listing was as described and was very clean and well appointed. Communication prior to and during our stay was very clear and responsive. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to simplify and update sound system with Bluetooth connectivity. We never were able to get it working outside. This was not due to lack of responsiveness from Claudia as we never called her about this. We had brought Bluetooth speakers so we used those for our music. The condo has plenty of room and is in a great location. We would definitely rent here again! Thanks for a great family vacation!

The property is not what is shown in the pictures

Great location. Property is quite old. Furnitures need an upgrade. Pictures at vrbo site is not what the property really looks like. One of the sliding windows in the living area is fully covered with a black fabric. Thus no ocean view from inside if you are seated. I wish the owners put a more recent picture before I decided about renting this place.

Great location, not great space

The location is great - love the balcony. The owner seems nice and I appreciated that the place was well stocked. It had saran wrap, condiments, etc. Overall things on the inside are a little odd. For example, the shower is inside your bedroom with no wall separating it from anything...there is a small separate toilet with door. Some people may not have the flexibility to get into the "toilet closet" if they want to close the door between the toilet and the bedroom. (Its rather a challenge to get in and manage to close the door.) There isn't really AC, there are 2 portable AC units. The vast majority of the time this is probably fine, but we arrived during a heat wave so the first couple of days and nights were quite hot and uncomfortable. The master bedroom has the most gigantic skylight I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it has no shade...so if you stay in the master bedroom your room will be bright as day at sunup. When I was there sunup was 6:00 a.m. so I was awake daily at 6. I would have preferred to be able to sleep in on vacation. Overall, if it has been less expensive I'd have felt better about it. At that price point, next time I will stay somewhere else.

Thanksgiving 2018 at the Castle

Recently stayed for four nights over Thanksgiving weekend 2018. Rented the Castle due to the three bedrooms. The interior of the castle was in great shape, all three bedrooms had comfy beds, and were well decorated. All three bedrooms had a modern flat screen television, and all had there own bathroom, and also all had balconies with views of the ocean. The back bedroom, has a view that overlooks the side facing Belmont park, and the ocean can also been seen. Kitchen had plenty of eating utensils, for our Thanksgiving dinner. We also used the wet bar area with fridge for our snack area, and drinks. Plenty of room. We really enjoyed the large patio overlooking the boardwalk, and ocean. Found ourselves eating breakfast on the patio, lunch, and then enjoying the afternoon sun, and views from the patio. Great place to people watch as well. Spent a lot of afternoons lounging on the deck, soaking up the sun, and listening to music from outdoor speakers provided. This large patio makes this property imo... Close to everything, Belmont park is a short walk away. Lots of shopping, entertainment, and good food within a short walk from the Castle. Also had the opportunity to experience the zip line at Belmont park, its a must do. With that being said, the Castle is always very busy with people and something to watch. FYI, entry into the Castle is off the boardwalk, and up several steps. Just be prepared to do some work to get to the castle. Parking was in a tight alley, behind the neighboring building. We parked our SUV without any issues in the middle space provided. This is also a big plus, lots of properties would not allow for large vehicle parking, fyi. Our conclusion, Great property, all the modern amenities that a family would need. Would for sure stay again. Communication with owners was alway prompt. and Property is well laid out for an enjoyable stay.

Wonderful Castle on the beach!

We had a great time. This condo was fantastic and had lots of space. Close to all the action, which we loved. Tacos and other food just downstairs! We would definately come back!

All about the balcony

The balcony and view of the home is completely worth it. The home is the perfect location for a group looking to enjoy the beach and a fun time hanging out on the balcony.

Shore Home Feel at the Castle

Property is well kept and stocked with everything you will need. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. Parking a bit tricky but manageable. Only downside is the homeless person that camped out on the beach across from property, buts that's not the fault of property owners. Otherwise excellent views of the beach you are right in the middle of a lively action packed West Coast Boardwalk. Place is centrally located to all San Diego sights

If you're looking for a place right by the beach, this is it, it's literally like maybe a 15 second walk. Besides being a short walk to the ocean, there is everything you could need in walking distance around you. I would definitely stay here again.

Right in the hub of Mission Beach

Property was perfect for our family. It’s basically 3 master bedrooms each with their own bathroom. We felt safe & secure with a gated locked entry.
