A HUGE 12’X40’ SCREENED IN PORCH OVER LOOKING THE SHENANDOAH RIVER!!!!

Relax and enjoy a cozy vacation with your family, friends and pets on the Shenandoah River.
Sweetwater Vacation Properties newly renovated cottage on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River (Mile 12) north of Luray, VA. Area offers excellent hunting as well as ultra-lite and fly-fishing for Small Mouth Bass, Brim, Red Eye Bass as well as baiting for old standbys like catfish and carp. There are numerous hiking and riding trails throughout the area and over 26 miles of good canoeing water with public access. If you are into plants and trees, there are a wide variety of both in the area. I also recommend a good book and a pair of binoculars for bird watching (Baltimore Orioles are nesting along the river in spring and early summer) or curl up by the campfire or in the hammock with that favorite novel you have been meaning to read. This is definitely Virginia Outdoors at it's finest!

Sweetwater Cottage, #5 Lorelei Lane, Luray, VA, is newly renovated and is situated on 3 secluded acres along the Shenandoah River). The Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with gas stove and oven, dishes, silverware, pots and pans, coffee maker, microwave, waffle maker, and a full bath with tub/shower combination. Two bedrooms, living room, dining area picnic tables, large fire pit, gas grill, and a NEW 12’x40’ screened-in porch with a spectacular river view. Sleeping arrangements in the cottage includes two queen size beds and one double futon bed in the living room and one double futon bed in the dining extension. There is STAR-LINK Internet and WiFi and NETFLIX, TV/DVD player as well as a CD stereo player available. Bed linens are provided, but you will need to bring your own towels, sleeping bags, food, kitchen supplies and beverages.

Cottage renters can expand their individual accomodations by bringing their RV and hooking up to the RV connections at the cottage.

We had a wonderful time at this cottage right on the south fork of the Shenandoah River. It was clean and comfortable and we loved passing time sitting on the screened in porch. I enjoyed floating on the river with the provided tubes and kayaks. The kitchen is well provisioned for making almost anything. We would definitely stay here again

Outstanding stay!

My family stayed here for a week right after the Christmas holiday and absolutely fell in love with the cabin and the property.From exploring the cabin grounds, enjoying the firepit by the river, or just sitting, our kids loved life by the river and so did we.Jan and John were wonderful hosts and their place had everything you needed in the kitchen to make your stay enjoyable.We’ll be back!!

Great get away!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Sweetwater. The river was exceptional, the fall colors were outstanding, and house was just perfect! The screened in porch, with the soothing sounds of the river and bird's singing proved to be the perfect spot for silencing the crazy world we live in today. It was also a great place to kick back with a book, or just sitting and picking out a few tunes on my guitar. I must recommend arriving there well before dark because it can be quite a challenge finding your way to the cottage on those back roads. Fortunately, we had our helpful hosts on the phone walking us through the directions after we got lost when we arrived in Luray. Bottom line, I look forward to a return visit, and I highly recommend this for fishing, tubing, canoeing, or just relaxing in a quiet hideaway.

Great cabin, excellent owners

They have stocked this cabins with SO much you really feel right at home and should be all ready to quickly settle in to relaxing right on the river, and get your firepit lit :) our toddler absolutely loved it too and she did great sleeping in the rooms again (this is our third or fourth time i think renting this cabin) and the outlets in there are the new kind that don’t need outlet protectors!!

Not a Moment Wasted

Our experience at this cottage was so wonderful, exactly what my family needed. It was such a beautiful and peaceful place that gave us the space we needed to bond and reconnect. The hosts are very communicative and kind, and went out of their way to be thoughtful toward my family by pulling out the right size life jackets for my kids and even pulling out a kiddie pool for them. We didn’t waste a moment of our trip here and can’t wait to come back.

If heaven ain't a lot like this waterfront cottage, I don't wanna go.

What an amazing property. Great view of the river, ample outdoor space, with nicely updated interior (especially the kitchen). My kids enjoyed the giant swing and hanging around the fire pit. The wifi worked great, able to stream on the Roku TV. I hope to go back again someday and bring the rest of the family. Thanks Jan and John!

Beautiful and relaxing.

We wanted weekend to unplug and relax and what a way to do it! The cottage is beautifully renovated and right in the river! Our host even left us some surprises for a birthday we were celebrating. It was such a nice touch.

Everything you want, right on the river

It really is right next to the river, which you can hear constantly in the background. It was gorgeous! The screened in porch was a highlight of the house, giving ample space to sip coffee and watch the sun rise. There are good trails to get into right next to the property, and a bit of driving will lead to more. Host was quick to respond to a few questions I had.

Heaven

A perfect getaway to a beautiful wildlife abundant, clean, sparkling river… the Shenandoah! And clean goes for Sweetwater cabin also! There was a fabulous screened porch where we lived, eating, talking, reading, and always watching the geese, the kingfishers, the herons and the ospreys fish. My husband fished but only hooked the little guys…. But that was fine, after all it’s just about getting your line in the water. The cabin was also very private with two large empty field on each side, so we did not worry about bothering anyone. Check this one out! You won’t be disappointed. Nicer than the pics!

Amazing!

Absolutely amazing views and beautiful house! The kitchen is modern and gorgeous and the screened in porch is wonderful! The only bad thing is having to leave! Lol!.. If you forgot something (salt, pepper, trash bags, coffee, toiletries, etc) don’t worry it’s there!! We had a wonderful time, next time we’re leaving the kids at home! ❤️

Great river front cabin!!

We had another great day at the cabin. Jan and her husband were a great host as always, and helped me with some connection issues between my baby monitor and the Wi-Fi. We practically lived on the massive screened in porch, which is so nice since the visit with a toddler, we can play games and things with her out there and be outside but not be in all the bugs or worry about her being close by the water at Lesley want to do those things for a little bit each time. They also have fun extras for the water, as well as a great covered Area with the grill and some picnic tables

Fantastic River Front Vacation

My husband and I were very impressed with the house, the property setting and all the admendities. The kitchen is well stocked and laid out very functionally. FINALLY, a rental with comfortable beds! The screened in porch is also amazing!! The sounds of the running water and views are so peaceful and soothing! We would rent here again for sure!

Peaceful and idyllic getaway

We went during a quiet period, but this allowed for full enjoyment of the beauty of the river and its wildlife. From the comfort of the screened porch, we took in the ducks, geese, and blue heron flying up and down the river. The river in front of Sweetwater Cottage is not deep, and the sounds of the water flowing past the stones mimicked a babbling brook, only louder. We enjoyed nearby hikes in the forest with our pup. The cottage was clean and comfortable and the owners were welcoming and easy to communicate with. We left refreshed by the beauty of the area.

Tucked in at the end of Lorelei Road, you can't beat the quiet and cozy cabin for a small group getaway - great kitchen, fantastic porch and riverfront views. We plan to return!

Married in Washburn, WI, in 1974 and traveled to many different places while in the Army settling in Remington, VA (2004). Jan is a highly successful domestic engineer and mother of Tim and Casey. John took off his Army uniform in 1995 and after working at PEO Soldier, Ft. Belvoir, VA finally retired from the Army in March of 2022 after a total of 47 years with the Army and now works for Jan. Jan and John enjoy fishing in both fresh and saltwater, being with our kids and grandkids, helping people make good memories at Sweetwater and being of service to our Lord and Savior.

Sweetwater was love at first sight! We originally purchased it as a private retreat, but found that being able to show others the Virginia Outdoors and what a relaxing time was all about, was extremely gratifying and decided to start sharing it with others . Life here moves at the speed of the river - very slowly! The river at Sweetwater washes away all the stresses associated with life in and around the National Capital region and rejuvenates the mind, body and soul as only the peace and solitude of the outdoors can.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Love sitting out along the river bank on a cool spring morning listening to the songs of the Baltimore Orioles or the owls hooting on a warm summer night while sleeping on the screened in porch. The peace and tranquility of floating down the river on a warm summers day while laying on an air mattress with my face submerged under water with mask and snorkel watching the river bottom and all the associated critters pass by. Or the joy of a “gourmet” smore cooked to perfection over a campfire while playing 4, 5, 6, and 12 stringed instruments and singing (or howling) with friends and family is one of life's greatest pleasures. Being rewarded with a nice bass as a result of a not so perfect cast. Finally, marveling at all of the wonders that surround you at Sweetwater and appreciating the beauty of God's creativity!
