My 4* rating was based on the poor communication with the host, on three occasions, prior to our stay (never received any response to my question(s)), getting the passcode to the home (required us to contact VRBO support team since 11 hours prior to check-in still no "Welcome" email, received code 8hrs prior to arrival after escalation) and contacting the host during our stay using the contact numbers left in the counter handbook. After making contact with Zepelin via cellphone, he was very friendly, responsive and did accommodate our need. Perhaps just a fluke during this one stay, but it did add some frustration and anxiety to our vacation trip.Overall, the house was very nice, as depicted in the details and shown in the pictures. The central AC and usage of the garage definitely came in handy. The house sits about 3 houses from a large state grazing land parcel which makes it quiet, low traffic and a nice place to take an early morning hike. The home is well situated (1.5 miles) to the 580 and about 8 minutes away using surface streets to eateries, shops and grocery stores. Staying in Castro Valley, if you are deciding on a community close to Oakland or access to SF, is a good choice.
