Nice Condo with some shortfalls
Condo
Pros
-Spacious and layout is nice
-Plenty of sleeping arrangements for adults and kids
-Nice Kitchen with just enough stuff to support the stay, could use some additional kitchen items but decent enough
-Great Balcony
-Excellent Master bedroom with a very nice master bath.
Cons
-Cleanliness was not great. The guest bedroom had a seriously stained mattress pad. We also found a rather inappropriate item under the comforter, which leads me to believe they never even bothered to remove comforter between guests. Found some trash under the bed as well. The bedroom with the two twins had a carpet that was stained quite a bit.
-Twin/trundle beds were not in great shape. One of the bed slats was broken upon our arrival and the trundles were not easy to move and probably need some work.
Sunset Island
PROS
-The island itself is very nice and clean
-Buildings and facilities seem to be kept in good order and even though there was construction happening in the building next door it did not disturb the stay
-The pool and bay areas are very nice and kept clean
Cons
-For us the island culture was not a good fit. While there appeared to be a popular place for children (we had 4 on our trip), there were some items that really didn't make a lot of sense.
-The pool doesn't open until 1130AM for island guests (11AM for owners). This doesn't make a lot of sense for a family on vacation to wait until lunch to swim in the pool.
-The rental only comes with 6 pool passes, even though it sleeps 8. The description of the property does mention this but what it doesn't include is the information on how much extra passes cost, $75/pp.
-The island restaurant/bar was convienent but very expensive, even by OC standards
-The overall vibe we got from our experience and discussions from other renters was not positive. Here are some examples of other annoyances, received a parking citation for parking the wrong direction on the road in the community, heard from another family that owners on the island had been extremely rude to them and there children, and one gentleman told us that his parking pass was stolen and they made him pay $75 to replace.
I wouldn't normally be so critical but for the price, we expected more. The fees/taxes added about 50% to the nightly cost. This island/condo are very nice but this review is biased towards the price compared with other OC accommodations. We expect to stay on oceanfront next time with a more reasonable cost.
