There are two main entrances to the house; if you are facing the property, then your entryway is the door to the left with a stone walkway leading you from the parking area straight into the house (please look at the pictures provided). Your unit is located on the second floor of the house. You have a deck overlooking a field which in a row of 150-year-old willow trees that line the Housatonic River. During winter months we ask our guests to use the main entrance as an exit, as the stairs from the balcony can get slippery.

Historical Significance: Deacon Silas Kellogg, born on April 7, 1714, in Westfield, Massachusetts, constructed the Kellogg House in 1739 upon marrying Ruth Root. Silas, a descendant of influential families, became a prominent figure in Sheffield, serving as a gentleman farmer, and deacon, and holding government positions, including County Treasurer. He played a pivotal role in the Stockbridge Convention of 1774, and Massachusetts call for freedom from English rule.
Silas Kellogg's legacy intertwines with the Sheffield Resolves, a document preceding the Declaration of Independence. Silas, a signatory to the resolves, exemplified his commitment to fighting British grievances. His sons, Asa and Silas Jr., actively participated in the War of Independence, embodying the family's dedication to freedom.
Despite Silas's roles as a patriot, rumors suggest involvement in counterfeiting prevalent in Sheffield during the 1700s. Ruth Kellogg, Silas's wife, met a tragic end at 96, succumbing to burns from a fireplace accident. Buried at Sheffield Plain Cemetery, both Silas and Ruth left a lasting imprint on American history.
The Kellogg Farmhouse bears witness to this transformative period. Built in 1739, the homestead preserves the spirit of independence, reflecting the Kellogg family's role in shaping America's narrative of freedom. As custodians of this history, we, as first-generation immigrants, honor the Kellogg legacy, acknowledging its vital contribution to the founding of the United States. Every beam in this historic dwelling resonates with the enduring legacy of those who once called it home, inviting guests to marvel at the layers of history within.

Very clean and comfortable accommodations. However, the kitchen lacked some significant appliances and utensils. No coffee maker for a group of people though there are two bedrooms. No microwave. Lacked utensils, i.e., only one tea spoon, no spatulas. The refrigerator had no ice maker. (I had to go out and buy my own ice.) These small things took away from an otherwise nice place.

Thank you for your feedback, Joel. We try to keep our listing and photos as clear as possible, including showing the Keurig coffee maker we provide with complimentary coffee. When you requested a grinder, we were happy to bring one right away. Since we live next door, we always encourage guests to reach out if something feels missing so we can provide it immediately. The refrigerator does not have an ice maker, which is also shown in the photos, as we’ve chosen not to include one for cleanliness reasons. We truly value suggestions and remain committed to making every stay as comfortable as possible.

Beautiful Private Oasis
Rosibel was warm and very accommodating from the start with immediate correspondence. The property is decorated so simply and beautifully with such care. Though attached to the main house it is very private and quiet. We do not watch television, so this is what we were looking for peace and relaxing quiet. You can bring your computer if needed, there is a strong internet connection. It was so comfortable. Nice linens, new full kitchen and bath. Immaculate. We loved the relaxing living room and amazing private views of the garden and corn fields. There is incredible care given to the environment. The beds are firm and comfortable the way we prefer. This was a relief. We have already recommended the place to my sister and nephew. The big windows, views, and light in the apartment are wonderful.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
For a small town, Great Barrington really checks all the boxes a city person may need upscale food, sophisticated shopping, excellent cuisine, an opera house, a theatre, a concert hall (Tanglewood is not far), more theatre than one can watch, live music, and a cheese store! Yes, foodies a cheese store with delicious cheese. Well, make that two, because Guidos has excellent cheese. This is in addition to all the outdoor activities. It really is a special place to call home.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
This historic house and this amazing town has roots not only in emancipation from the British but slavery in the north ends here in Sheffield, MA by the efforts of a woman named Elizabeth Freeman. Besides it’s rich history, it’s beautiful landscapes makes it a dreamy place to call home.
