The cabin itself and the location were accurately presented and had the potential to be a 10 out of 10. Unfortunately, the stay was significantly impacted by ongoing issues with the air conditioning. Upon arrival, the cabin temperature was 79 degrees. I notified the host, who was responsive. The technician visited late evening and indicated the unit needed additional work but said it “should” function. However, the issue persisted. We had multiple follow-ups with the host, and the same tech returned Monday evening from 10:00 PM to 12:00AM. There was no clear communication afterward, so we assumed the issue had been resolved. Unfortunately, the air conditioning continued to perform poorly for the remainder of the week.On our final evening, the temp inside reached 84 degrees with high humidity, which made the space uncomfortable enough that we left and booked a hotel for the night. While the host did provide a refund of 3 nights, it did not include fees and amounted to roughly a 20% adjustment. The majority of our stay was impacted by the unresolved air conditioning issue, we felt a more substantial refund would have been appropriate. We would have preferred a fully functioning unit so we could enjoy the property as intended. We later learned that the technician believed the unit was working because it could reach 74 degrees at times, but only when it was cooler outside. This experience shows a key risk with rental-by-owner that isn't there in hotels/resorts.
