We had a wonderful three-week stay at this cabin in West Jefferson! After spending that much time here, we really got to appreciate everything the cabin and the area had to offer.The cabin was comfortable, peaceful, and felt like a true home away from home. We especially enjoyed the beautiful mountain surroundings and the quiet atmosphere. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind while still being close enough to West Jefferson for anything we needed.The cabin was clean, well-equipped, and had everything we needed for an extended stay. We also really appreciated how comfortable it was for our family. Three weeks is a long time to stay somewhere, and we were very happy with our choice.The area itself is beautiful, and we loved getting to experience the mountains and everything Ashe County has to offer. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful mountain getaway!

Beautiful cabin, good location, short walk to river. Sheets on the beds were dirty and had a smell, luckily we brought our own covers, but other than that overall 4 stars.

Nice place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay. The driveway was a little challenging after getting wet from the rain. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is definitely recommended.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Xmas vacation

Wonderful cabin, great week, just a few minor bumps. The coffee pot didn’t work so we had to buy one, the instructions for the gas fireplace were wrong and the electric stove didn’t work well till we noticed the burners were not connected. The lower basement area was cold but the grandkids didn’t seem to mind. Otherwise we had a great time

We couldn’t stay at a hotel because we had to many people and our pet with us. I went online and found this wonderful cabin in West Jefferson. From start to finish we was treated like family. The cabin was amazing. The views were amazing as well. Cable, WiFi, games for the kids, hot tub. We almost forgot about the hurricane it was so nice.

Didn’t want to leave

We had a wonderful stay! The house had everything we needed to keep kids entertained! We seriously did not want to leave. Amazing wildlife in the area. Saw deer everyday, one day watched them play in the river down from the property. The river is a short walk, but we are a hiking family so that did not phase us at all including my 3 year old. Loved the separation of the down stair den from the rest of the house. Beds were comfy. It gave my teens separate places to chill and watch what they wanted on tv. A lot to do within an hour drive. The only complaint was the floors were not very clean when we arrived, but everything else was spotless so we didn’t sweat that too much. Would love to come back!

Cool House

We loved staying in the house. We had just two adults and our dog. We loved walking down the path to the river. Took about 10 minutes taking our time. Not too steep, but a mountain trail. a few benches along the way to rest and enjoy the forest. River was nice. Our dog and we enjoyed swimming and did some fishing and tubing. River is not too deep and not flowing too fast. House had everything we needed to cook a full meal including outside grill and gas fireplace was nice. Basement was cool with tv and couches and card table and air hockey and foosball and door walks outside to hot tub which was nice. Steep driveway but we managed in a car. Firepit on ground level next to parking. Main level off of parking has walkway to deck that is on two sides and this is main living room and kitchen with two bedrooms and full bath. Upper level has loft with queen bed and full bath. Basement is lower level with full bath and games. Loved it. Also management was always there via text and very very helpful

Above The River was wonderful!

Above The River is a beautiful three story cabin that is appropriately named as it is situated on the side of the mountain above the river. The river is close enough that you can hear it if the environment is quite. Our stay was in August. You could see glimpses of the river from the back deck through the trees if you made it a point to look for it. The river would be very visible if you were there when the trees were without their leaves. We tubed in the river which was so clear and beautiful. There was plenty of games, puzzles, books and movies for when we were inside. We enjoyed making memories and we would definitely stay at this rental again.

Great long weekend escape!

Our family enjoyed the mountain getaway! A nice quiet escape with plenty of space. The walk down to the river is a nice walk through the woods and is the five minutes indicated. The walk back up may take a few minutes longer, but still a great amenity to be so close to the water and able to walk through nature. The recommendation for 4WD would definitely be necessary for the driveway in the winter, but was very doable - but that was the only spot we felt it would be needed. Great spot - enjoyed the stay!

Perfect Getaway to Reset

Honestly we didn’t do much as a family while we were there because we chose to spend our time thoroughly enjoying the ambiance and quietness of the cabin. The kids really enjoyed themselves and we enjoyed the ability to relax. It was a great way to get away from the craziness of our everyday lives and find some peace. The place was neat, tidy, and cozy! Perfect getaway!

Nice stay but floors were dirty

We had a great time exploring the area. We were informed the people before us made a mess. Therefore they needed extra time to clean (thats fine!). When we got there all looked okay but it had not be cleaned well. The floors on the main level were sticky and crumbs everywhere... not sure they vacuumed and mopped the floors. Make sure you bring cleaning supplies for the kitchen to wipe up after meals. There were none at the house.

Nice place

Overall nice house, nice location. House was mostly clean. Curtains were very dusty especially in dining room some cobwebs and ceiling fan in bedroom upstairs pretty dusty. There was a set of sheets left in dryer we just put them back not sure where they went. Overall it was a nice stay otherwise. Driveway was not to bad even for a minivan do that was good. We enjoyed the location with the river and not being to far from town.

Weekend Getaway

House has a great layout, was clean and is in a great location, 6 miles from groceries, gas, etc. The river was a short walk with private access which was nice. There were no long range Mountain View but still nice. We enjoyed the hot tub, playing air hockey/foosball and time by the fire. Downtown west Jefferson was only 10 minutes away and we enjoyed a little shopping. Definitely recommend this cabin.

Wonderful getaway!

We loved this cabin, it was beautiful, spacious, comfortable and in such a peaceful setting. Plus, it was one of the cleanest rentals we've ever stayed at! The hot tub worked great. The access to and view of the river was an added bonus. The rental agency responded quickly to all questions and requests. We would definitely rent this cabin again!

Nice Home with Great Amenities

Overall, clean, spacious, well-appointed home. Some of the cookware could be updated a bit, but otherwise, loved this peaceful retreat 'above the river'.

Relaxing weekend

My family and I had a great time. The cabin had everything we needed. The town was close with a lot of shops and restaurants. Would definitely recommend this place.

Family trip Sept 2021

We loved the house and location to the river. Enjoyed fire pit, fishing, and hot tub I hope you won’t take this as too negative but the house really needs a deep cleaning and a little deck uttering but it’s a great house! Thank you for letting us stay there! Beautiful memories

Disappointed and Misleading

Very disappointed when arriving at this property. Felt misled in the description. Pictures on website do not match what is actually there. There is no view at all. Overgrown trees and scrubs everywhere felt confining and not relaxing. No easy access to the water, steep, rocky and dangerous path. Be careful of rusty nails popping out on outside chairs. Towels smell sour and need replaced. Cabin smells musty. Be careful of braided rugs on floors, easy to trip on. Shower head in downstairs bathroom is moldy and nasty along with ceiling tiles stained that show leaks. Glad to have 4 wheel drive vehicles as driveway is very difficult to get in and out. Landline phone did not work. Left a day early as no one wanted to return after going into West Jefferson. What was to be a nice family get away turned out to a upsetting experience. Will not rent again.

When you called, we offered to let you out of your agreement however you chose to stay. We’re sorry you were disappointed. The setting is natural, wooded and the views change depending on the season. Overall this property gets good reviews.
