The path to the beach is a natural pathway through the dunes which are a protected area. Because of this there are limitations on what can be done to alter the landscape. This is true for all the homes along the coast in Galveston. That said, we are fortunate to have such a beautiful and convenient path that leads directly from the backyard of the home to the beach. We’re sorry for the snake sightings and so glad that you were not harmed. We do let guests know in the booking confirmation that rattlesnakes and other wildlife live in the dunes, as it is a natural habitat. Fortunately, sightings are very rare. We also have a “Beware of Snakes” sign posted at the entrance to the dunes in the backyard as an additional reminder. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. As stated in the property description, this beachfront home is located in the Sea Isle neighborhood which is approximately 25 minutes from the seawall of Galveston. The beaches here are less crowded yet you have easy access to Galveston’s restaurants and attractions if you choose to incorporate those into your trip. Thank you for your feedback and we are glad that you had a good time. We are sorry to hear that you encountered a rattlesnake on your first night! It sounds like this may have happened in the sand dunes. The dunes on Galveston Island are considered a protected wildlife area. Unfortunately rattlesnakes are among the many animals that inhabit the sand dunes. Rattlesnake sightings do occur on the island but bites are extremely rare. To be safe, we do ask that all guests are aware of their surroundings when passing through the dunes and include this information on our guest app.
