Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Hale Nanea was more than we expected. Brilliant rainbows would greet us in the mornings & amazing sunsets would end our days. It is a sanctuary for sea birds, Nenes and wild chickens that brought the property to life late in the day. The private trail to Secret Beach was a treat! We rarely left the property it was just so relaxing. When we did the nearby town of Kilauea had great food options. Oh yeah! We'll be back!

Fantastic Property and Getaway

This cottage was a dream. Check-in and out were seamless. The house is a fun retreat....we cooked/grilled every night. The kitchen has nice cookware/appliances and had salt, pepper, and cooking oil. Beyond that, you will need to bring spices and whatever you want to cook. DoorDash is available to bring groceries if you wish to relax....but the Kilauea Market and the Healthy Hut Market are close and have most everything. Communication with the property manager was quick, and our one minor concern was addressed in a timely manner. Many reviews mention the A/C.... They are mounted close to the ceiling and remote controlled. Make sure to slide open the bottom of the remote for more controls, point it at the unit, and it will work fine. We did heed the warnings in the booking and the contract about potential construction.... it is a valid warning. The adjacent tract of land has a lot going on, but the noise was minimal during our stay. Someone was working, though, adjacent to the house preparing the ground for construction of another cottage. I would strongly recommend checking the status of construction on the property before booking if that is something that would bother you, as it looked like in the near future there might be some building going on very close to the house. Otherwise, book it and love it!!!

Beautiful property with mediocre management

The property is amazing. Private. Perfect for a couple. But the check in and the help from the property manager was mediocre at best. It was confusing to receive emails and texts from different people or companies. I got the feeling that the manager didn't want to be bothered. If it weren't for the confusing check in and the lack of customer service, I would give this property a 5 star.

Rest and relaxation

Overall our stay was wonderful. Beautiful views, cozy cottage with privacy, and access to a great quiet beach. Only comment would be storage. No place to hang clothes nor any place to store groceries. We plan to stay again. Disappointed price has gone up twice since I first found location. My wife and I stay on the north shore often and thought this was best time we have had - and we have stayed at some great places.

Amazing!

Property and home where better than the pictures showed, high end through out. Very comfortable in every way. Beach below was amazing and very private with only 15 people max each time we visited. Close to town, but far enough away. We will be back!

Beautiful property!

Everything about this house was excellent. You can tell the professionalism of the property management company in the ease of access and all the details to make the stay super comfortable. The house has everything needed for a stay. The walk to Secret beach couldnā€™t be easier.

The view was stunning (I'm not sure why they don't advertise that sunsets are stunning from this property - I'd be happy to provide a photo I took). The kitchen was well stocked and the grill high quality (I did not notice they offered to stock the refrigerator for you - I wish I took them up on that). The beach was very nice and generally quiet. Here are some suggestions I have for improvements:- It wasn't clear which gate to use or even which house was ours. It would be nice if the check in instructions were more clear (first gate, first house on right)- The home came with a cooler, chairs, and a beach umbrella. This was fantastic, but it should be noted in the home details so we don't bring our own. Furthermore, it would be nice to include a boogie board or basic snorkeling gear.- The home was mostly well stocked - plenty of dish washer pods and paper towels as well as bleach and fabric softeners. However there was no laundry detergent or salt / pepper. Preferably these are stocked, but if not please specify.- I'd suggest letting guests know they can drive most of the way to the beach - saves a lot of walking up hill!- I thought some of the reservation charges were a bit scandalous. Please just keep it to a straight nightly rate, deposit, and cleaning fee.Overall it was fantastic and I'd love to return.

Reviewer Comments: I was so excited about this rental based on the reviews and pictures. I was immediately disappointed when we drove up to the gate. There were overgrown bushes around the gate and the gate had broken plywood holding it in place-very different from other gates we drove past on the same road. At the house, I initially thought it couldn't be our rental because it looked like no one had been there for a long time. Overgrown plants, plant debris, old outdoor furniture, and an old umbrella laying in the trees. The house was similar and dated. Old shades and furnishings and peeling wallpaper with a hole in the wall. Once we opened up the doors and shades, it felt a little better. Very secluded and lots of light from the windows and views of the ocean. Grill was dated, but usable. I wish the outdoor space was better because the view was amazing. Old chairs and no shade made the outdoor space almost unusable during the day. The hot tub was in good condition and that was wonderful at night to watch the stars. We took the LONG path to the ocean and the beach was amazing. Be prepared to do some hiking and climbing to get there though! Waves were unreal and whales were breaching. Not swimmable, but the beach was very relaxing and we enjoying sitting there. I loved the size of the home and location. It just needs simple cosmetic updates and a good cleanup outdoors to make it more appealing. Do the updates and add an infinity pool and I would live there forever!! I would recommend this property only if updates and changes are made. Not worth the price at all in this condition.

The property itself is old, outdated, and rundown with peeling wallpaper, and holes in walls, lizards and creepy crawlies are regular visitors. We reached out to the Hawaii Life host immediately upon check and never recd a response from the "local host". The AC is located in the living area and does not cool the bedroom, was warm but tolerable in October. Location a 5, the property is a 1.

Gorgeous escape, upgrades need

Loved our time in Kauai and the exclusivity the property gives you. Hard to beat! Private Beach is incredible as well. This very small house is just enough to give you what you need. Two things to keep in mind: the ā€œwalkā€ to the beach is more of a steep hike. Highly recommend driving your car down but be careful on the steep winding roads. Second and most important: the AC unit is wildly inadequate. The afternoon sun bakes the house and the AC can never recover in the master. It doesnā€™t get below 75/76. We used a portable window AC unit (<$300) that fixed it instantly. The property manager chose to not keep this cheap but effective fix for some reason but thatā€™s all this place needs to earn a 5 star review

This house and property is truly paradise giving you the Hawaii feel. Out of the handful of beaches we visited around Kauai and Honolulu, the short hike down to ā€œsecret beach hideawayā€ was by far our favorite.

Wonderful Romantic Getaway

The property is amazing and perfectly situated above secret beach. Great location and very nicely outfitted. The hot tub and outdoor shower are superb, and it's a truly lovely escape. That said, that the air con unit in the cottage is not sufficient - the main room is fine, but the bedroom gets quite stuffy. Numerous people have commented on this in the reviews, although we thought we would give it a try anyway since it is listed as having air con and we thought it might be sufficient - but definitely not. For the price that you pay, it should be top of the line. Adding another unit in the bedroom is a simple thing that would go a long way for this property (and yes the wallpaper is peeling, but that's a small thing that doesn't really impact the stay).

Magical Place - Kauai Adventure

My wife and I are normally resort pool/beach type people but this place was absolutely amazing. It showed you truly what Kauai was about. Access to the beach was a cool little path and the beach was amazing. People would often come to look at this area for the sunset since it was so beautiful. Great house for a couple looking to explore this breathtaking island. Highly recommend!

A truly magical place

The nēnē welcoming party was worth it alone, but this home couldnā€™t have been more perfect for the Kauaā€™i segment of our honeymoon. Kauapea Beach literally is your backyard, and it was the perfect break from the busier beaches on the island. We had everything we needed, so we didnā€™t need to reach out to management, but they were in regular communication to ensure we had up-to-date details on important local information like storms and road closures. Thank you!!!

Great Stay!

We had a great time here! Everything we needed + everything we wanted...incredible views w/everything from mountains to whales, private access to a beautiful beach (w/a little bit of a hike), hot tub! The nenes wanted to visit quite a bit so we used the hose to discourage them a little. The little town is great while being close to other beaches and attractions. We would highly recommend!

Views for literal miles

Such a rich scenery makes up for any short comings the cottage may have (which were not many!) It was perfect for 2 people, we loved the privacy and the concierge service. They were able to find a chef to cook us a private dinner at the home for my birthday. BEST BIRTHDAY EVER
