Alta Vista Beach House

Saturday-Saturday booking from June 1st to July 30th

Alta Vista means "High View" and that is exactly what you will get, we have a gorgeous panoramic view of the gulf and the beach. Come and enjoy the water sparkling like diamonds on bright sunny days. Alta Vista is contemporarily designed with cathedral ceilings with ceiling fans and hardwood flooring in every room. We have plenty of windows in the house for a spectacular view and a bright and airy feel. Or if you would rather just sit outside on the patio to enjoy the nice breeze with everything the beach has to offer. Theres also a bike path right across the street for the outdoorsy and the kids can play cornhole on the new cement pad under the house. WiFi internet and local and long distance calling in the US and Canada. The kitchen, dining room and living room are open with an island bar that has a flat top stove (no oven).

This property is a Saturday-Saturday booking from June 1st to july July 30th. Please inquire about monthly rates, from October 24th- February 28th/29th.
Rates:
Summer weekly rate- $2100.00 plus taxes and fees ($300 per night, holidays $325 per night)
Winter weekly rate- $1750.00 plus taxes and fees ($250 per night, holidays $325 per night)
Winter monthly rate- $2800.00 plus taxes and fees (The month of January is for monthly rental only!)

*While this home is pet friendly there is a 2 limit max on pets. Pet fee is non-refundable and is $100 per pet. PETS MUST BE APROVED BY OWNER*

Places to visit in the surrounding area include: Tate's Hell Nature Trail, the Historic Carrabelle Lighthouse and Museum, Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum, Dog Island Ferry excursions, charter fishing, kayaking, guided tour boats at Wakulla Springs, Panacea's Gulf Specimen Marine Lab (with touch pools for children), Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, a variety of local seafood eateries and a local supermarket.Close by is the beautiful St. James Bay Golf Course and Resort 370 Acres of Golf Community, Resort Style 18 hole Play golf course designed by Robert Walker. The Famous Crooked River Grill is just 15 minutes away. Located a little over an hour's drive from Tallahassee, and only thirty minutes from St. George Island and Apalachicola. Come and discover the true meaning of "The Forgotten Coast".

Grad trip

Family stayed together for my daughter’s graduation. Cute place, great location, plenty of room, check-in/out process was great. Was not told I would have to open an outdoor property gate when arriving close to 9pm in the dark with zero lights on. Also had to turn on the water to the house, and only figured that out by reading notes on the fridge.

Amazing View, Relaxing, & Peaceful

The house had everything we needed for relaxing and peaceful beach getaway. The views from the porch were heavenly. We enjoyed drinking coffee on the porch, listening to the waves and watching the sun rise. Morning walks on the beach were refreshing and the sunsets were spectacular. We would definitely stay here again!

Comfortable but not the best for kids

I should have read the listing more - there is no oven! We ended up just grilling fish, so thankful for the grill! Someone else mentioned that the house is in need of a deep clean. The beds & baths were very clean, but the main area not as much. I know it's pet friendly, but it almost seemed like the air filters needed to be cleaned. On check in, it was 85 inside the house, & the water was cut off - not ideal after a long road-trip & unexpected since I knew the cleaners had just been there. The stairs are very, very steep, a little crooked, & not uniform depths. They were not stairs I thought my 2 and 4 year old could handle on their own on repeat. If you have a newly toddling child or one who is constantly reaching for counters, I would not recommend this home. The owners mark it up to a difference in decor style, but in short: the entire place is cluttered. Every surface has some trinket on it that any kid will go for; it's only a matter of time before a child pulls something off and hurts themselves. There are ~ 100 glasses & no pantry. There’s a bookshelf that's child height for food to go on, but we know how that goes b/w kids and dogs. If your dogs don't get into food, you don't need an oven, & your kids are old enough to either not get into snacks or it's vacation so who cares about diets anyway - then go for it! Location is great- you can't beat being right on the beach. Beds were comfortable, the AC worked once we turned it down to 75, & plenty of linens!

We love the beach and privacy. Not all the hustle and bustle. It was perfect! Our dog loved it too ! It was the first time ever on vacation we didn’t eat out not one time! We loved being right on the beach 🏖

Great family and dog friendly vacation

Relaxing!

Our family loved the peaceful, relaxing area, and the home was a very comfortable and charming spot to make memories. The screened porch was fantastic, and the wildlife was incredible. We enjoyed the beach, as well as the nearby St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge and Bald Point State Park. The concrete area under the home was a fun place to play games together, too! The little store was neat, and the home was very well appointed. We had a very relaxing and fun time!

Absolute perfection!!

We decided to book a last minute getaway, and found this gem on the beach! The daily views and sounds of the beach were beyond amazing!! The house was very clean and had more than enough of the essentials (especially kitchen supplies)! The only things missing, I’d say, would be a pair of binoculars to see the distant marine life and perhaps bicycles for the bike path across the street! We would definitely stay here again and we highly recommend this beach house to anyone!!

Perfect Family Getaway

My husband and his parents really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, and Alligator Point is quiet with such little light pollution you can see the stripe of the Milky Way across the night sky. The screened in porch was absolutely wonderful to sit and enjoy the lovely view. We enjoyed daily walks on the beach with our small dogs. We are very thankful to our hosts for allowing pets on the property. The house is comfortable and cozy. The beds were quite comfortable, and the kitchen had everything necessary for cooking what we brought to prepare our meals. Just be prepared as there is no traditional oven, just a microwave and toaster oven, which was completely fine. The cement area underneath the house makes a great outdoor area as well. We truly enjoyed our stay. My mother in law was already talking about when we might plan to go again.

Great stay

We stayed the weekend and had a great time. The beach is just a short walk down the stairs. Amenities were as described and just what we needed for the quick getaway before school started back up. Will definitely stay here again.

Such a gem!

This amazing property was the perfect place for a relaxing beach vacation. The quick access to the serene, semi private beach was priceless. My parents, husband, sister and myself all had enough room for ourselves and more. The best part was the covered patio with a view - perfect for morning coffee, afternoon lunch and drinks during sunset. Definitely will be back! Thank you for hosting us!

Thanks for the extra time...we needed it

First, we like this beach house for a small group. Been vacationing at Alligator/Bald Point since '93, starting w/Cook House/Alta Vista 3-4 times. But, we prefer a place with flexible policies about cancellation, and check-in/out times. We've often experienced greater flexibility at the ~dozen other houses. There was noisy construction next door, so the deck experience, which a beautiful part of this property, & sleeping and napping (we are 72 & 66) were problematic. They worked w/ power tools all day and always late including way past 9pm one night & 11:30pm on Friday, the night before checked out (so thanks for finally agreeing to let us check out late). HOWEVER, we like this place. There is much to like, and the Trinket Shop was fun to browse. We bought 5-6 things. And you guys were always friendly and helpful. Thanks for a (mostly) enjoyable week. Perfect location needs cleaning

We absolutely loved the location and overall theme of this property. You can tell the home is well loved and honestly just needs a really good deep cleaning. Overall the space appeared clean but a look under the couch cushions or at the shower heads proved otherwise. We spent most of our time outside anyway and despite the cold weather we enjoyed walks down the beach and playing fetch with the dog. We will definitely be back to Alligator point

Nice Place

Everything was great and exactly as it was posted. The beach was very private. The ONLY bad part about the trip was the water. Once you get away from the shoreline a bit you hit some rather muddy water. Although I’m sure the tropical storm didn’t help either. All in all a nice place and would recommend to others.

Exactly what we needed!

If you're a fan of Dog Island, this is the house for you. It's not pretentious, it's not been decorated to death. Some folks may choose a beach house for marble countertops and flat screens in every room, but not me. Alta Vista is the perfect mix of rustic and refined. The kitchen is exceptionally well stocked, so if you're like us and still trying to hide from crowded restaurants, you can cook happily with an ocean view. We adore this home, and look forward to visiting again. Alta Vista is several feet higher on the pylons than other houses in the area, making for an excellent view. Those extra feet come with extra stairs, so if your knees (or those of your doggo) are easily worn out, you'll want to plop a chair on the landings like we did, to accommodate a little rest. I can't say enough about how lovely this home is. It's just far enough away from the explosive growth to the West to be peaceful, yet accessible for dining or shopping. We'll be back!

Nice place to stay, but the water left a lot to be desired

The property was great, the beach was great, but the water was extremely muddy. Ten feet off-shor and the sand gave way to foot deep mud that smelled really bad. As a result, we found ourselves walking to the sandbar at the point a few hundred meters to the east to enjoy the water.

Top Notch-Porch, Beautiful View!

We had a marvelous time! Perfect spot on the beach. There's an area a few steps up the beach where the water is really shallow and when the tide goes out you can walk really far out and see all kinds of life. We saw dolphins and lots of pelicans divebombing into the water. The water was almost always calm. We could float around in the warm water. The home is furnished well. Like staying at your relative's house. It had everything you could need in the kitchen except a stove. I thought that was going to be an issue but there's a large toaster oven that worked great. We baked brownies, made pizza, etc... all we needed. The master room is very comfy and has an ensuite. The windows open facing the water and you can lay there and listen. Tub is a great size for baths. The other two rooms are equally comfy. There are lots of books and games around the house we enjoyed too. Laundry worked well. Plenty of towels and wash rags. You'll want to bring toilet paper and paper towels. They get you started with those supplies which was nice. There's a Little Shop in the bedroom we loved! We bought several things from it. A headband, a travel mug, some tchotchkes... very fun touch! The screened-in porch is where I was most of the time. It was perfect any time of day. Such a relaxing place to draw, paint, drink, etc... There's a shower outside for getting all the sand off and an outdoor shed to store your beach things. Beach full of shells and crabs! The water isn't clear at Alligator Point but it doesn't really matter. We still love it! A+! We highly recommend it!
