Sobre esta propriedade

The Bumbleshack Creekside Tiny House in an Old Forest of Tuckasegee, NC

Now you can book a stay in the Bumbleshack tiny house, a pioneer of the modern tiny house movement!

Parked in her retirement spot perched high above a cascading mountain creek on 8 1/2 private, heavily forested acres, this is nature immersion at its best.

Tube the Tuckasegee River, paddle pristine Bear Lake and visit the small town charms of nearby Cashiers and Sylva. Plus your stay supports our nonprofit orchard supplying local food banks!

The Bumbleshack Tiny House in Tuckasegee, NC, is a handcrafted tiny house built in 2013 that sits just above a cascading creek that provides soothing, natural white noise year round. Lakes surround us—Bear Lake is the closest—and we keep kayaks and paddles ready for guest use. On warmer days, grab our river tubes and float the gentle Tuckasegee River. In the evenings, eat under the trees at your outdoor dining table for two and let the creek do the talking.

Inside, the space is thoughtfully outfitted for easy comfort: a double (full) bed in the cozy loft, plus a sofa that opens into another double (full) bed, heat/AC, and a compact kitchenette with a Keurig and local coffee pods.

Your stay helps us grow a nonprofit orchard that supplies local food banks—thank you for being part of it!

The space:

Sleep: loft double (full) + double (full) pull-out sofa (must be able to climb a ladder and the loft is small)

Kitchenette: small fridge, cooktop, basic cookware, dishes, Keurig, electric water kettle

Composting toilet: If you have never used one, this might not be the place for you. We have a fancy expensive European composting toilet that we had shipped from overseas, and it is one of the nicest on the market....but it is nonetheless still a composting toilet.

Comfort: heating/air conditioning, Wi-Fi, propane heater in case the power goes out in the fall (we are closed Jan - March due to the outdoor shower)

Outdoors: covered patio with dining area for two, small propane grill, chairs, string lights, HOT outdoor open shower powered by propane and acres to explore behind the tiny house

Extras: small fire pit (wood nearby), guide to our favorite lake put-ins & river floats

Pet-friendly: well-behaved pups welcome!

Guest access:

We live in the main house on the property, but you’ll have the tiny house, patio, the creekside trail and the entire back portion of the property all to yourselves. Kayaks (with paddles & life jackets) and river tubes are available for guest use at no charge and for use at your own risk. Parking is right next to the tiny house. The creek is reached via a short path, and there is a creekside sitting area; it can be slippery so use care. Adventure seekers only!!! This is not your typical vacation rental.

Where you’ll be:

Tuckasegee, North Carolina: a peaceful mountain valley wrapped in forests, lakes, and the Tuckasegee River—perfect for paddling, fishing, swimming, and leaf-peeping. Lake Glenville—the closest lake—offers scenic coves, waterfalls and calm water.

Sylva (nearby): a classic Appalachian small town with a walkable Main Street, indie shops and bookstores, coffee spots, local breweries, and laid-back eateries. It’s your easy stop for groceries, farm-to-table bites, live music and weekend buzz.

Cashiers and Highlands are right up NC-107 about 30 minutes away, and the fun of Asheville is just one hour away.

The bumbleshack was the perfect place for us to spend a weekend exploring the local lakes and trails. You could even spend the day roaming the property experiencing the creeks and wildlife. Lisa and Jonathan were the most welcoming hosts and you can tell they have poured their heart and souls into the cool vibes you get at this unique location. We even brought home several pieces of Lisa’s own nature inspired artwork that she has decorated the bumbleshack with. The place was privately secluded( but still has WiFi ) , clean , very cute and so close to so much breathtaking scenery. They really made the most out of this space because it has everything you need. Exceeded expectations in every way possible. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. We will certainly be back!

I couldn’t imagine a better place for me and my dog to stay. Beautiful location tucked up the hill along a creek. Very quiet and peaceful. I really enjoyed the short hiking trail to the creek-side chairs. The tiny house is well designed, decorated with cool art and had high quality amenities. I spent most of my time outside at the patio and fire pit space. Internet was good and I also enjoyed taking an outdoor shower. Lisa gave great check-in directions and is such a kind and considerate host. This is a very scenic area with a lot of outdoor activities. I was visiting to attend a wedding, but I could have easily filled a week or more with hikes, especially to the numerous waterfalls and swimming holes.I highly recommend the Bumbleshack and would love to visit again. It was the perfect place for getting in touch with nature and for a distraction-free departure from my normal life.

I'm a mama, artist, retired wildlife biologist, conservationist, and tiny house and pollinator advocate. We bought a tiny house on wheels back in 2013 and headed to the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina to start a new life and build an orchard and food forest. We've been here for over a decade now and are never leaving!

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

We are in the most beautiful and ideally central part of the western North Carolina mountains!

Tuckasegee, North Carolina is a peaceful mountain valley wrapped in forests, lakes, and the Tuckasegee River—perfect for paddling, fishing, swimming, and leaf-peeping. Lake Glenville—the closest lake—offers scenic coves and calm water.

Sylva (10 miles away) is a classic Appalachian small town with a walkable Main Street, indie shops and bookstores, coffee spots, local breweries, and laid-back eateries. It’s your easy stop for groceries, farm-to-table bites, live music, and weekend buzz.

Cashiers (also 10 miles away in the other direction) is a charming mountain village tucked high on the plateau of the southern Blue Ridge Mountains. Surrounded by waterfalls, hiking trails, and cool summer breezes, it’s a favorite escape for nature lovers and foodies alike. The town square buzzes with local markets, boutiques, and farm-to-table restaurants, while nearby spots like Whiteside Mountain and Silver Run Falls offer postcard-worthy hikes and views. Whether you’re wandering antique shops, sipping local coffee, or picnicking by a waterfall, Cashiers blends laid-back mountain living with small-town charm.

Asheville (an hour away) is Western North Carolina’s creative heart—where Blue Ridge mountain beauty meets an artsy, laid-back vibe. The city buzzes with live music, craft breweries, and a celebrated food scene that’s both local and inventive. Visitors love strolling through the River Arts District, hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway, or touring the iconic Biltmore Estate. It’s the perfect day trip for guests who want a taste of culture, cuisine, and mountain adventure all in one.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

You have 8 acres of private, beautiful old forest with a cascading creek surrounding the property to wander without all the crowds.

Our tiny house is famous! She was a pioneer of the modern tiny house movement and a cover model for Tiny House Magazine.

We provide you with access to our two kayaks (a two seater and a one seater) that you can take to Lake Glenville or other nearby lakes (we’ll point you to scenic put-ins). Lake Glenville has 4 main waterfalls...Hurricane Falls, Mill Creek Falls, Hidden Falls and Norton Falls.

You can float the Tuckasegee (seasonal) in our river tubes.

There are waterfalls and Blue Ridge hikes within a short drive, or there is plenty of private hiking to do on the property itself. This area is a bird sanctuary, and we have a resident barred owl on the property, two red shouldered hawks, deer, opossums, raccoons, and an occasional bear or fox. You can forage for mushrooms, sticks and rocks (except in the creek so we don't harm the salamanders).
