Great for busy professionals, UC Berkeley visitors, or anyone looking for a 1-MONTH short-term (or longer). Again, a longer than 1-month lease agreement is not required. PLEASE NOTE: MINIMUM LENGTH OF STAY IS 30 NIGHTS. Best for one person or a couple. MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY FOR TOP FLOOR FLAT: 2 (TWO). Reach us for more information.

A beautiful "free-standing" Duplex in Orinda on a tree-lined street built on a half-acre plot. The Duplex is divided into two (2) separate legal units: The top Floor and the Bottom Floor. Each unit has its own separate entrance. Please note: The length of stay for both units is 30 nights or more.

Pictures that are displayed above show the Upper (Top Floor) Flat which has been advertised here on this website. The Upper Flat has approx. 1000 sq. ft. of living space with 1 bedroom, 1 extra room for small office space, 1 bath, Separate Living Room; full Kitchen with modern appliances. The unit has its own Laundry area with a washer/dryer. 1 car private parking space is assigned to each Flat.

This location is perfect for anyone without a car. A delightful 5 Minute walk to BART, BUS. Short walking distance to Orinda Downtown Theater Square, Trendy Shops, Cool Coffee Houses, Hip Restaurants, Parks, Reservoirs, Recreation, and Hiking/Biking Trails. 20-minute BART ride to San Francisco and a direct BART line to San Francisco International Airport.

Both Flats have separate outside private Patio/Garden areas to enjoy dinner, a glass of wine, or just soak up a little California sunshine while you relax. A local Farmer's Market opens on Saturdays, located a few blocks from here. Orinda has been rated as one of the SAFEST cities in the entire East Bay by 'New Yorker Magazine.

We offer a temporary living space with all amenities, a more than pleasant home environment, and a beautiful location. Units are completely furnished with Modern furniture mixed with eclectic accessories, and bed linens making this a perfect alternative to the generic hotel stay.

Excellent choice for anyone without cars, or who's looking for a unique experience living in one of the most affluent communities in this part of the Bay while staying close to San Francisco & Other East-Bay cities. Very private and Peaceful yet close to everything!

Quiet, Clean, Safe, Comfortable, Excellent price & Amazing Hosts

I stayed in the flat for 5 nights while attending a conference in San Francisco and visiting relatives in Berkeley. Daisy was most welcoming and accommodating and the flat was perfect: clean, quiet, safe and comfortable. Excellent value for this area! I didn't expect to find anything so nice yet the price is so reasonable! I hope to be back many more times I am in San Francisco Bay Area. I highly recommend it!

Private, Charming Home with Modern Comforts in the Heart of Orinda

This home is located in one of the East Bay's most coveted neighborhoods named Orinda. The location is great. Close to all transportation, shops, restaurants, Banks, Grocery, drugstore and much more. BART (High-speed metro system) is within a short walking distance. It takes you to San Francisco in less than 20 minutes! This is a top floor flat with everything you need for a short stay. The bed and the mattress are very comfortable. Plenty of fresh bed linens and bath towels. The kitchen is small but very functional. The best thing about the place is the price. I looked at quite a number of places in VRBO & AirBnB but this rental is the most reasonable priced yet one of the nicest. It is not someone's backyard in-law unit or a unit above a garage. It is a beautiful stand-alone duplex and the owners do not live in the same property therefore you have the complete privacy and nobody is watching your every step. The owners, Daisy and Norman are amazing hosts. Both of them are a class act. Everything here is 10 out of 10 from booking to departure. If you are looking for a place that is nice, clean, simple yet comfortable and close to San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland without spending a great deal of money then this is the perfect place for you. Daisy is the most thoughtful and sincere host I have ever met! I would give Daisy more than 5 stars.

Disappointing

The stay was extremely disappointing. Here's why. The interior pictures are not what is there. The only seating in the main room is an outdoor sofa that is extremely uncomfortable. Not what is in the pictures. The kitchen is also lacking. I had to use my own pans. The one there was a joke. There were no decent knives. I had to request a cutting board. For this price I feel there should be some quality pieces in the kitchen. Also, I had to check out early due to a change in my work. Let me state I'm fully aware of the the policies of VRBO. I had a coworker who was interested in staying for the rest of my time. I asked the owner if that would possible. The answer was they didn't have an agreement with them. That they hadn't vetted them. This person was willing to sign an agreement. The only way they vetted me was by taking my payment. Of course, I would have liked to have gotten some money back. I feel there was a doable solution. Lesson learned. In the future I will book months separately. So overall, I would not stay there again. Very disappointing.

Spacious and comfortable stay in Orinda CA

First, we have nothing but good things to say about Daisy, the owner, though we never met her. Her communication was prompt, and she was responsive to our needs, including sending someone to help carry our luggage up the stairs. The toaster didn’t work, we needed more towels and an ironing board and iron. All arrived the next day. Our texts were always responded to quickly. The living room and main bedroom are quite large, with a comfortable couch and queen bed. The kitchen has good appliances, but is on the small side. Since we were there during COVID, and had to prepare all of our meals, that was a drawback. Also, we could have used a couple of more dinner plates and a few more water glasses. However, we didn’t ask about them, so we can’t complain. I’m sure Daisy would have accommodated us quickly. The location is excellent. You can be in Berkeley or Walnut Creek in 10 minutes. Overall, it was a positive experience, and we would recommend Knickerbocker for those wanting a comfortable and fairly priced place to stay in Orinda.

Great Experience, Great Host and definitely recommend

I stayed a total of sixty two nights while my apartment was going through some renovation and enjoyed the rental thoroughly. The accommodations were exactly as pictured as advertised. It was very comfortable, clean and safe. The property provided everything that I required to make me feel right at home, just as the host had mentioned in his description. Plus the location is Fantastic. Only a few minutes away from all the great restaurants, bars and shopping or wherever I ventured to. Daisy was very personable, helpful and responsive throughout the entire process of booking the reservation and greeting me upon arrival. Everything was spot on! Definitely would recommend staying here if you want a sure thing! I would be happy to rent it again. Thanks very much Daisy!!

Very Nice

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful duplex in Orinda. House was clean and very cozy. amazingly in-expensive. Daisy and Norman were 5 star...so friendly, so attentive and very helpful. Staying here was better than staying in a 5 star hotel. Close to so much, a nice walk or a quick, cheap über ride away! We will most certainly be staying here again whenever we are in the area next. Nice Duplex (Top Floor Apartment)! Perfect Hosts who is caring but left us alone to enjoy our stay

Orinda is really a beautiful place and the location of the rental is great! Truly a Five-Minute walk to BART (Metro) station and the downtown area. We didn't need a car. The apartment is perfect for 2 people. The bathroom has shower over tub and small but it worked fine for us. There were plenty of quality fresh bath towels and toiletries provided by the homeowner. We were also provided with very nice fresh bed-linens, clean comforters, blankets. The kitchen is small but stocked up with everything we needed to prepare and enjoy all our meals. It has all the major appliances, complete set of cookware, silverware & dinnerware. We enjoyed hot fresh coffee from Keurig Coffee Machine, Bialetti Moka Express Espresso Maker. Free complimentary Internet Access. Owners are thoughtful and very sincere unlike some of our previous experiences with hosts from Airbnb and VRBO. If you are looking for a clean, fresh, simple, tastefully furnished with a great mattress and centrally located place, then this is the perfect place. The owners can easily charge more then their asking price. We looked at a lot of places in and around Orinda, this rental was the most reasonably priced yet provide a great place to stay in a very fine neighborhood. The bottom line is we had a great stay and we enjoyed visiting San Francisco and the nearby cities in the East Bay. Thank you Daisy for letting us having the place to ourselves!! We appreciated that you left us alone..

Perfect Stay at a Perfect Place!

The apartment was perfect for us. It had all the basics we needed for a short visit. There is absolutely nothing peachy about it. Good location. Great price for a nice and clean place. Orinda is a beautiful place, close to San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland. Only 30 miles from the Silicone Valley! We didn't have a car but had no problem getting around. We took BART and other public transportation to everywhere! Daisy was so nice and thoughtful, we would love to stay there again. Thank You Daisy!!

Perfectly Located. Just a stone's throw away from BART, Downtown and UC Berkeley Campus

One of my colleagues and I rented this property in Orinda while attending a course at UC Berkeley. The property was clean, great space and fully equipped with essential appliances. The place is perfect if you are looking for a practical accommodation with a bonus of being in walking distance to the best breakfast, lunch and dinner spots in the downtown area. The nightly rate was extremely reasonable specially for Orinda! The best part of our stay was that we didn’t need a car. We took BART or walked to everywhere. This was actually the first time in my adult life that I was “car free” and loved it. The hosts: Daisy & Norman are excellent. Caring, thoughtful and supportive.

Really lovely spot! Lovely hosts!

Very well equipped flat. Nothing crazy, nothing outrageous! Just a cozy, warm, comfortable and modern in a very safe, residential and calm area close to the public transportation including BART. Walk to everywhere! Downtown, Starbucks, Shops, Banks, Drugstore, Grocery, Restaurants, Cinema are all within walking distance. Felt very much welcome by lovely and very helpful hosts. Daisy, I wish to give you more than 5 stars! Orinda is a beautiful community and about 19 miles east of San Francisco and about 3 - 5 miles from Berkeley. We loved our stay there and we'd love to come back!

EXECELLENT LOCATION, NICE APARTMENT AT A GREAT PRICE!!

Last June, we spent over a week at this property. The house is older, in a charming neighborhood, easily walkable to the downtown shop areas, transportation, parks, lots of open spaces everywhere, the beautiful Lafayette Reservoir all are within few minutes! The UC Berkeley campus is few miles away. The apartment is a short (5 minute) walk from the BART station. There are also transit busses running along Moraga way to St. Mary’s College and beyond. We were here to attend our son's graduation in Berkeley and the flat worked well for our stay. The neighborhood is safe and very quiet at night. The internet in the flat was reliable and fast. The kitchen and bathroom are small but quite adequate. There is a flight of stairs from the street level to the apartment so may not be ideal for anyone having issues with the mobility. The apartment was very clean. The mattress/pillows (firm but comfortable) and bed linens are newer and there were plenty of newer bath towels. The owner met us at the apartment on arrival and was very personable and sincere. You cannot really beat the price. (Most of the places that we looked were "room" in a house, a shack behind the house or something above the garage). It was the most reasonably priced, decent independent apartment in a very affluent community. We had the maximum privacy. We will certainly return and highly recommend to others.

Wonderful stay

The apartment is located in a really neat part of East Bay Area called Orinda. A lovely place! Daisy was very well organized and I had no trouble getting into the apartment. The space was clean and equipped with everything that I needed for my short stay. The bed was the best I have EVER slept in a hotel or B&B. Nothing extraordinary. Nothing outrageous! All you get is a clean, quiet, safe, comfortable, beautiful, stylish place with everything for an unbelievably great price! Only 20 minutes away from San Francisco. Great VRBO experience! I will be back soon.

The Perfect Place. The Perfect Price.. The Perfect Location...

I had a great stay at this top floor flat of the duplex. The place is clean, simple, comfortable and tastefully furnished. Nothing was over the top. Nothing was outlandish or unconventional. The kitchen has everything that I needed for my week-long stay. Plenty of fresh bed linens, comforters, bath linens. The best thing about the flat is the bed and mattress. I never slept better when I am on the road. Extremely reasonably priced for what you get around here. Used BART to get to San Francisco and it was a Breeze. Orinda is one the prettiest places in the entire east bay, safe and affluent.. The communication with the owners were always great and they always made sure that I was comfortable. I will return again soon!!

Perfect Orinda Retreat

My family enjoyed a great stay here last weekend in February. Comfortable bedroom with plenty of hanging/storing space, cozy bed, plenty of amenities. Just a short walk to BART station Buses and all places in downtown including banks, post office, drugstores, cinema, medical facilities, yoga ...so many great restaurants and shops. The hosts were super as they were caring, thoughtful and supportive. When we're in the Bay Area again this will be our go-to.

Conveniently located home, perfect for small families & getaways. Great hosts!

Our short stay was great! It's in a great neighborhood within walking distance of shops and eateries! We found the location to be just about perfect and the accommodations were spacious, clean and convenient for our 5-day stay. Very reasonably price for Orinda. We checked many places and this was the most affordable. The space was comfortable! We look forward to returning back to the Bay and staying again!

HOME AWAY FORM HOME

This place truly felt like our home away from home. Norman and Daisy are welcoming, forthcoming and gracious hosts. They are a joy to meet and deal with. The flat was clean and tastefully furnished. The location is quiet. We had a great stay and found plenty to do in the area. It was easy to coordinate our arrival and departure with Daisy and we had complete privacy during our stay. We walked everywhere and public transportation is within blocks. There is easy access to shopping, entertainment, restaurants and cafes. It's truly a year around house and extremely reasonably priced for the area. We hope to visit again! Daisy, you are a star!

Great Location! Amazingly Affordable and Comfortable!

We would definitely stay here again. The owner communication was great although they do not live in the same house. The owners live in Orinda but in a different location and we liked that set up. We had complete privacy during our stay and that part was very much appreciated. The house is well appointed, clean and comfortable. Although it is a wonderful walking neighborhood with everything you need close by, it was nice to have a parking space too. The kitchen was well equipped- we cooked for a small dinner party with no problems. The flat had WiFi, Washer and Dryer. Restaurants, bakery, coffee shops, grocery, BART all within easy walking distance. All in all, it was wonderful staying at Daisy's place! Daisy was one of the best parts of the trip. Always eager to make sure that we that we had a great stay. THANK YOU Daisy!!!

Wonderful Getaway with fond memories! Begining to End...

I traveled with my best friend and it fit us perfectly. Very clean and well furnished, even the linens provided were really nice quality. The experience was great from beginning to end. The place is relaxing and comfortable, the area a great bonus. Loved the Bay Area. The Guest House was a Great value for the price! We checked other places and this place had the best rate. Great location for a very reasonable price!

Perfectly adequate place for a really good price compared to all the other rentals we considered in Orinda, Berkeley and Oakland. We traveled with our 4 year old, and were so grateful that we were close to everything! Short walking distance to pharmacy, banks, post office, public transportation, grocery, restaurants, coffee shops. We were welcomed warmly by Daisy and Norman. All particulars were carefully and completely explained. The flat was as advertised. Neighborhood was very safe and upscale. LOCATION ABSOLUTELY CAN'T BE BEAT -- if you are looking for a low-key vacation without spending a great deal of money or will be on campus you can definitely get away without a car. GREAT LOCATION, COMFORTABLE FLAT FOR A REASONABLE PRICE!

Daisy is such a wonderful host! Sorry we are giving our review so late, because we left for Europe right after we checked out of the apartment. The apartment is cozy, beautiful and comfortable. The area where it's located is very convenient, safe and one can walk to BART (Metro), shops and restaurants easily. Staying there was really nice as it is located in a beautiful, affluent east bay neighborhood called Orinda. Homeowners (does not live in the property) but made us feel welcome and was always available on the phone or by email to answer questions or make suggestions. Staying at Daisy's place was lovely, it was exactly as described. She is caring and accommodating to our early arrival time and late departure. I wish I could give her more than 5 starts! My wife and I had a great time there and we would highly recommend this to anyone.

Great home in a perfect location, walkable neighborhood

We stayed at Daisy's house for two and half months with 1 child and just loved it. It's two bedrooms and the master bedroom is the has adjoining bathroom. The house has been well maintained; the rooms are nicely painted, the patio has nice seating area, the furniture and beds are comfortable. The kitchen, for instance, is well equipped all necessary appliances. You get the point - everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The home has friendly, quiet neighbors and is in a safe neighborhood in easy walking distance to BART and great restaurants and cafes, restaurants, local shops, Safeway, a Walgreen and Right Aid Pharmacy, and the post office, farmer markets. Transportation wise, this property has it all - there's a private one-car parking in a carport so no worries about parking but it's also accessible to BART and bus, so not having a car is not a limiting factor. It's an easy BART ride to other parts of the East Bay or to San Francisco. All in all, you can't go wrong with this property. It's a beautiful home in a great neighborhood and Daisy is fantastic to work with. If you need a place to stay in San Francisco Bay Area, this is it!

Great holiday accommodation

We had an excellent experience in Norman and Daisy's charming guest house in beautiful city of Orinda! They were extraordinarily welcoming and friendly, and did everything they could to make us feel welcome both in their home and in the neighborhood. Very well equipped flat. Cozy, warm, comfortable and modern in a very residential and calm area close to the public transportation. Would definitely stay here again!

A PERFECT place for a long term stay

This was my first VRBO experience and it was great. I stayed here for a month after moving to the Bay Area from out of state and it was a good place to bounce off from. Daisy was fast to respond and very helpful before and throughout the stay (and after too, she forwarded all my mail!). The place is just as described. Very nice, and very functional kitchen, and a great outdoor to sit outside and enjoy some fresh air and coffee. The neighborhood is nice, safe and breathtakingly beautiful wherever you go. Everything you need is in walking distance. A five minute walk to downtown Orinda, BART station. The guest house has everything necessary for daily life. Thanks Daisy! I would definitely recommend this place and looking forward to seeing you again! . Everything you need is right there. Don't even need a car! I can't say enough fantastic things about staying here.

Just a beuatiful place with great hosts

We recently stayed at Norman and Daisy's beautiful guest house in Orinda and it did not disappoint! Daisy was friendly and told us all the great places to visit and eat. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable and warm beds we've ever slept on! This place is so cute and cozy and the location was perfect. Just a short walk to some great local cafes, all public transportation and see beautiful houses with breathtaking view made us fall in love with this town. Orinda is one of the most beautiful places in the East Bay. I think we'll definitely stay here again when we visit San Francisco Bay Area in the future.

Convenient & Clean Orinda Guest House Next to BART

My Mother & I had a lovely stay in a beautiful top floor flat in a charming duplex. We were there for 5 nights. The accommodations were very comfortable with everything we needed. The kitchen meant that we did not have to eat every meal out and we had a comfortable place to sit and entertain ourselves in a nice living room. It was truly a home away from home! The Bart station was convenient for trips into the city. The location of the guest house was the most convenient part of our trip as we didn’t have to rent a car to get around. Short and easy walk to shopping, restaurants, bank, coffee houses, market place. We would have liked to have had more time to enjoy the beautiful guest house . Daisy was a gracious host.

I am a retired Nuclear Scientist. My wife Daisy is a Computer Scientist working for a fortune-500 company in San Francisco who also teaches Computer Science & Mathematics at San Francisco State University in the evenings. We feel fortunate to have a beautiful and amazing property (also known as “Brook-House”) that we can offer to guests from all over the world. We love Orinda and have worked hard to maintain a comfortable, natural feel to our guest house and our guests love being surrounded by beautiful California landscape and wildlife.
We, the hosts, do not live at the rental guest-house site. We live about 3 miles away from the guest-house and are accessible via phone/email, in case you need help with something. We seek guests who are independent, clean, tidy, and will treat our home with care. We are available to take care of your needs during your stay. Yet, we respect your privacy as it is YOUR residence while you are here.

We chose Orinda mainly for its scenic beauty and easy access to San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Silicon Valley. We also wanted the cosmopolitan life style of San Francisco Bay Area which is one of the most exciting places in the world..

The San Francisco Bay Area is a nine-county region famous for an exciting blend of cultural activities and beautiful scenery. Orinda has easy access (via BART and other public transportation systems and super easy HWY access) to the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

Orinda is a community of clean streets and tidy landscaping. It is also one of the safest communities where the crime rate is almost negligible. Orinda is known for its public schools as it has one of the best public schools in California. We have had professionally converted the property into two separate legal units (Upper & Lower Flats) and each with separate entrance. It is a wonderful place to stay if you enjoy peace & quiet living space with beautiful view and quick access to San Francisco and other Bay Area cities.

The guest house works very well for travelers or anyone without a car.

Our guest house is a 'stand-alone' property on a half-acre land. It is private, secluded, retreat-like setting. It is not a part of the owner's house. Owners of the property lives 3 miles away therefore guests enjoy the freedom of having the place to themselves --the perfect place to 'come home to' after a busy day of sight-seeing or hard work. It offers super easy highway and BART access, yet once you're here that world is a galaxy away. We take pride in having maintained a comfortable, well-maintained but casual and welcoming environment.
