This is a one of a kind property built in 2007. The home features 13' high exposed steel truss ceilings with R65 insulation and central AC, industrial RLM lighting, extensive detailed Victorian style hardwood mill work, granite countertops, maple flooring throughout, ceramic tile bathroom with large 2 person shower, Kohler fixtures, leather furniture, 65" 4K 3D HDTV with Blue Ray, CD, DVD, etc.

Internet radio fans will love the Denon X1000 network AV receiver with Klipsch surround system. There is a front loading washer and dryer on premises in addition to a 2nd floor deck (with padded wicker furniture) which opens off the smaller bedroom.

Bringing your toys? As a "carriage house style" home the property can potentially store your toys (motorcycles, bicycles, jet skis, ATV's, and small boats) indoors securely out of the weather should that be a concern.

My sisters and I loved our stay at “Smitty’s”! The home is beautiful and comfortable. The location was ideal for taking side trips. Also, it was very nice being able to park in the garage for safety and convenience.

Great place to stay

We enjoyed our stay a lot. The apartment is nicely decorated, has comfortable furniture, and is well stocked. The garage was a nice bonus. Check-in was super easy. We would definitely stay here again!

The house was perfect for our family of 4. Everything was clean, kitchen fully stocked with all the equipment we needed. Being able to park in the garage was great, and the check in process/responsiveness of the owner was much appreciated. Would definitely recommend and look forward to staying here again.

Perfect weekend

Great location on edge of downtown. The loft feels like you’re in a treehouse with the mature trees swaying in the breeze! Beautiful decor, Host has thought of all the details for a very enjoyable stay!

The proprietor provided very good directions for our arrival and departure and was available by text or call for questions. Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. The location was convenient to shopping and attractions. And the available garage made coming and going so convenient. We had some rain and didn’t have to worry about getting ourselves or our packages wet.

Great property!

We loved our stay - the location was great and the property was clean and well cared for. There is an excellent ice cream shop and bakery within walking distance that my kids loved visiting and everyone was very friendly and helpful with property questions.

I loved this property! When you walk up the stairs to the upper level you will be amazed with the home! This is an entire home all to yourself. The lower level is a garage. Great quiet neighborhood and only minutes from the water and Front street. We will definitely stay here again. Stunning!

This loft was cozy, comfortable, and charming. It was the perfect size for 4 adults. The bed was comfortable with cotton sheets. The living area was open with comfortable, spacious seating. The location was easy to access and drive to Turtle Stadium, Grand Traverse Commons, Moomers, and the downtown area. We were able to park both cars in the attached garage and there was still room for bikes and scooters. I really liked that the area was residential and would definitely stay here again.

Summer Trip to Sleeping Bear & Traverse City

This property was a great base camp for our time in Traverse City. It’s only a couple of minutes from Front Street by car, and was easy to access the highway to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. There is also a grocery store and bakery just down the street.

This property is beautiful! We were so happy with our stay. James has done a great job making this carriage house extra special with beautiful crown molding & a variety of lighting fixtures, updated appliances, a fully-stocked kitchen, games, extra bedding, and even beach chairs. We also loved having the private 3-car garage for our bikes. If you want to go downtown on foot it's a 25 minute walk, but doable. We drove in, which took 6 minutes max. We would stay here again without hesitation. Thank you James for sharing such a one-of-a-kind space with us!

We really enjoyed our stay here. First it is conveniently located to many different activities in and around Traverse City. It's in a neighborhood setting which we wanted, not in a condominium type of building. The availability of the garage is an added bonus, quite large - it easily fit a long wheel base pickup truck. The kitchen was very nicely equipped and very functional. Very comfortable furniture. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will definitely rent again. Communications with the owner are excellent - super guy to work with.

Spacious, clean, easy. Location only fair

James was very easy to correspond with and arriving and departing were no problem. Garage for car, spacious, clean. From prior reviews it appeared to be a very walkable, central neighborhood, but in our opinion that wasn't necessarily the case. The immediate neighborhood was a bit odd and felt sort of fringe-ey, so while it was in close enough proximity to the things we wanted to do, it wasn't a place we felt we wanted to walk from or hang around outside at, and this surprised us based on prior reviews.

Hello Jennifer, Thanks for booking with us. For the sake of future guests considering this property I just really need to clarify a few things. We are on 14th St. Downtown TC starts at 8th St which is 6 blocks (the short way) away. This distance is approximately .6 of a mile. Clinch park beach (just north of Front St.) is 1.3 miles away. Grocery, Bakery, TC Whiskey, Right Brain Brewery are all less than a quarter mile away. All of that said when its 92 in August it is what it is- which is good because in northern MI its like winter 10 months of the year:) Also guests should feel at ease hanging out at upstairs deck level or at ground level at the fire pit or just chillin on adirondacks looking north on our double lot which has no direct line of sight views of our neighbors space. BTW our neighbors are awesome retired folks who look out for us and we look out for them. Thats kind of just how this neighborhood is even though the Michigan State Police post is 400 feet away just across the street. I just ask that guest reach out if there is ever any question that needs to be answered. Sincere Thanks, JS

As a retired tradesman and an admirer of Victorian architecture found throughout the downtown Traverse City area, my wife and I created this home to appear as if it was here from the beginning. It would have been far easier and cost effective to create a less detailed, "cheaper" structure. We dont believe that is in the best interest of the City we admire or the architectural style featured so prominently in the downtown residential areas

The property as purchased in 2007 featured an aging small Victorian style frame home. After a fair amount of anguish and a whole lot of consideration over renovation versus demolition and rebuilding, the latter won out. The home we created is exactly what we envisioned to be a highly detailed, energy efficient, spacious, multi-use, in-town get-away. The proximity to downtown and the walking distance to shopping and night life make it all worthwhile.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

When sitting on the deck you will find yourself wondering, as we do, just how old is the giant white oak tree which surrounds you? What you wont realize is how much debate went into building this home in a manner which saved half of this tree. In order to build this size home far enough off the alley pushed us up against an grand old White Oak tree that we treasured. The compromise was to remove half of the tree and then design a deck which would save the remaining half. We did that and both the tree and the building are better off for it.
