Rustic cabin by Twin Island Lake, Pine Plains, NY
Sitting on quiet Lake Road and nestled in the woods, my rental built in 1950 is fashioned after a vintage lake cabin. As seen in the pictures, I have dressed the the space with props reminiscent of that era.

The cabin offers a well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher), a bath with a large claw footed tub and an outdoor hot and cold shower. There are two bedroom areas; one with a single bed and pop-up trundle, the other a double bed. The double is an old-fashioned spring bed.
The front sitting room/kitchen area has great views of the lake with an over head ceiling fan (no air conditioning) and a wood burning stove for cooler temps. The property extends across a quiet lane and includes Lake front dock seating area and canoe.

Swimming in the lake out front is possible in the Spring and Fall. But during the summer, there is an over abundance of water lilies. At that time, it is good for boating (15mph electric limit) and fishing. There are 3 bodies of water connected. The next called Stissing Lake is deeper and offers 2 good swimming options. One is the Lions Club Beach requiring a permit which I provide and the other public entry can be located on the hiking and swimming map which I provide.
The scenic hiking trails are around Thompson Pond, the third in the chain of lakes and up Stissing Mountain to the fire tower.

The town of Pine Plains is small and quaint New England. It offers a Historic Inn for dining, several other small eateries and a WIFI coffee shop. Stewarts by the fire station is a shopping source for a few basics. Nearby options are super market Hannafords in Red Hook and Millerton offers a store called F.E.E.D. supplied by local farms. The Stissing House has been reviewed in the NYT (top 10 eateries 2023) and the Stissing Center for Arts and Culture on Main Street has a full calendar.

This is an owner shared cabin; I may be there when it is not lent out and keep a permanent bureau and closet with my things.

No land line or TV. Generally good cell reception. WIFI available.
There is a suitcase of board games, puzzles, cards and plenty of mystery books.

Not winterized, the cabin is closed down in October and opened again by June. Book ahead. Discounted weekly rate.

My family and I had a great time at the cabin. The cabin itself is quirky and fun, and the surroundings were beautiful. Host is super responsive to questions or concerns. If you are looking for a rustic place to unplug from the world, this place is for you.

Extremely charming fantasy cottage on a beautiful, serene pond. Absolutely great getaway. No TV (thankfully), a cute little beach nearby to swim in, and a small lake across the street with a dock and canoe that we made liberal use of. Night brought the sounds of owls, fisher cats, and even a punk show across the lake. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass (you can catch them right from the dock if you cast it to the right place at the right time). The cottage itself is also so thoughtfully designed, from the birch bark strips, appearances of teacups in unexpected places, to the constant repetition of the color green. FYI, the beds are old-style spring beds, which might be tough for some people (she is clear about this in the listing). Would return for sure!

Great classic spot--a little primitive--outside shower is total open air and a path full of woodchips make it a little uneasy, on a slippery wood plank--could make it much better by some flagstones for path and shower floor but that is my only real complaint.VERY rustic but comfortable, located just outside of the town of Pine Plains, nice dock and right on the water--literally a 50's old school lake house--beds, furnishings, pot/pans all from the past--very cool.

Magical vintage cabin straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Cosy, organized, curated and with very clear directions.. Bed could be a bit firmer, but hey, it’s a movie set and very authentic in a world where everything is synthetic and drywall. Enjoy the vibe.

Very rustic and exactly as described. If you love camping/glamping, this is for you! The outdoor shower was lovely. The lake was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed unplugging and relaxing, playing croquet, scrabble and cards.

Peace and quiet

So peaceful and a little slice of heaven! Absolutely loved the cottage decor—very retro and loved reminiscing and explaining retro items to my grandson. Was like a scavenger hunt… just when you thought you saw everything, you would come across another hidden treasure. We even enjoyed dinner out on the floating dock one evening and enjoyed watching the pair of swans.

The cottage is, as advertised, vintage 50s in decor. We loved it. The setting is beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and utensils. We could have used one or two more fans, but we stayed during a heat wave. Most visitors probably won't have this problem.

Quaint and cluttered

Cabin is indeed vintage. Adored the outside shower! We will be making one at our home in the northern Adirondacks! Great location-close to town. Nice and quiet.

Wonderful Weekend

It was great to return again to Inez’s vintage cabin in the woods. Although it was chilly, she had laid a fire for our arrival and it quickly took the chill off. The beds/pillows were very comfy. Kitchen more than adequate for breakfast cooking. We love it here and plan to return in the spring 2020

Everything was amazing except the beds were uncomfortable. I love the vintage cottage and the feel of it but sleeping was a bit of an issue . Location is amazing so it made up for that

OK. After 24 years of indulging my amusement with the original “old-fashioned” bed-spring that came with the 1950s cabin’s single bed, I have removed it! The newer mattress, now firmly on planks, makes the bed less noisy, less bouncy and a reformed delight for sleeping. Adam, your appreciation of my cabin except for that bed was the final straw. Sorry kids.

Two table fans, a box fan, and a ceiling fan. I often take advantage of the ice cold well water out door shower for instant cooling if I’m not over at dock dangling feet in water.

Very Rustic Cabin In The Woods

If you want privacy this is the place! We loved the quiet and tranquility. It is extremely rustic. The “on demand” heater needs to be repaired. We were boiling water for baths… no shower. Also, replacement of both mattress would not hurt either. The rolling to the centre was not optional. We loved being close to Stissing House and Champetre for 2 nights dining out, with only a 3 minute drive back home. In conclusion, if you enjoy camping this is your quaint, peaceful little cabin with plenty of hiking to be enjoyed close by.

Both quality mattresses are new this year. The beds, as described, have old-fashioned springs meant to enhance the vintage experience. If you had texted with your “water on demand” concern, I would have had a few tips for hot. Also described and pictured, the shower for my retro styled retreat is outside with hot/cold faucets in a fern and forest setting. I consider my cabin a purposely unique and well curated experience. Described as a 50's vintage styled cabin, it is certainly a few more stars above camping out.

We are very dissatisfied with what we found there - the cabin and the place actually look different

the cabin is dirty, there are cobwebs everywhere, the smell in the cabin is unpleasant, I had to wash the dishes we used several times to get rid of the smell. The refrigerators are dirty and there are unused products left .The chairs by the lake are covered in rust. Poison ivy is around the cabin We are not enjoy our vacation☹️

A lovely little getaway cabin!

We rented this great lake cabin for the 2024 Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck. While the location was peaceful and secluded, the fairgrounds commute was quick and easy (25 min +/-). So perfect that I've already booked it for next year. The cabin itself was cute and well-thought out, with beautiful views of the lake and fall colors. I'd describe the décor as fun vintage, yet truly cozy and comfortable, with lots of homey touches. The wood stove was efficient, with plenty of well seasoned wood for fast & easy fire starting. There were plenty of places to sit and relax, including a table that seats 4 and lots of fun outdoor options. The antique iron tub is great, and a bathroom heater makes it cozy in there. The kitchen was good, with full sized appliances that were nice and clean (coffee pot, fridge, & stove). We loved the large farmhouse sink; and the cupboards were well-stocked with dishes, bowls, assorted glasses, and cups. Basically, everything I needed was easy to find. There was a well-seasoned cast iron griddle pan and most of the cookware was Le Creuset. Plus - there was a useable sharp knife! I often bring one since rentals can have questionable knives - so this was a pleasant surprise! The 'broken dishes' backsplash was simply delightful, as were the many nice touches throughout. There were even pumpkins and mums decorating the front of the house and the dock! We truly enjoyed it all and highly recommend Inez's little cabin!

Our AMAZING host

I found my Aunt deceased unexpectedly and we wanted to honor her wishes. She was cremated in SC and wanted to be returned home and buried with her Mother (my Grandma) in NY. My daughter struggles with anxiety and has Gertrude, her ESA. We needed to find a property that allowed dogs, had the availability on short notice and was located near our remaining family and future business in NY. This property checked every single box! We drove my Aunt up overnight and arrived a bit earlier then planned. (Not sure if it was my lead foot or less traffic/construction then usual). Our lovely host responded to our inquires quickly. She was very accurate in her description of this beautiful lakeside property. I grew up in a lakeside community so this reminded me of home. It was awesome to be able to share these memories with my kids. My Aunt, in a similar home as my childhood home so my kids got a real representation of those memories. The day of the services was very emotional and the weather was terrible. It was cold, rainy and the wind was crazy. We came back to the property, lit a fire in the wood stove and finally took a deep breath. Normally, we would head back down south pretty quickly. We stayed and enjoyed this home. It’s the perfect representation of lakeside living. Dressed beautifully in a vintage style, we used the radio (which was perfectly tuned to an oldies station) and chatted with the neighbors abt the community. Thank you for making a terrible loss more bearable 💜

What a great getaway! Such a warm and cozy cottage with so much charm. The lake was awesome, we loved fishing from the canoe and just relaxing on the dock. It’s also only a five-minute drive to the quaint little town for a bite to eat.Inez was spot-on and quick to answer any questions we had. We left feeling completely refreshed and will definitely be back!

A tranquil getaway

Simple yet comfortable, set in the middle of nature, a place to restore peace of mind. Reminded us of Lake Wobegon. Inez's cabin is more than enough for a relaxing vacation.

This cabin is so nice that it has inspired my partner and I to own a cabin of our own someday! Very cozy and quiet, it has everything you need while also going for the authentic wood cabin vibe. The outdoor shower is dreamy and the wood fire stove is perfect for cooler nights. Thanks Inez!

I acquired this cabin from it's original owner who grew up around these lakes in the summer. I was thrilled that it had never been 'upgraded'. I refurbished it while trying to keep true to a vintage 50's lake cabin. I still enjoy combing the local yard sales for items that belong to this venue.
