Ocean Avenue - Meredith Lodging

Ocean Avenue serves up a great beach stay for a crowd, with a spacious ocean-view upper level with two living and two dining rooms. The five bedrooms, including two king primary suites, are arrayed around an expansive, fenced deck punctuated with Adirondack chairs, a barbecue, and a fire table perfect for evenings outdoors. Your guests can happily mingle on plush sofas or retreat to a separate set of sofas and TVs on the same floor. You can choose from ocean-view dining at the table for 8, or eat at another table for 6, supplemented by three seats at the breakfast bar adjoining the kitchen. A skylight brings sun to the pretty kitchen, fully equipped for a feast with a walk-in pantry. An ocean-view deck wraps the house for ocean breezes and sunset gazing.

A trail across a pretty meadow takes you to the splendor of quiet Gearhart beach, and the downtown with its quaint shops and restaurants is a five-minute walk. Hop in the car for world-class golf or explore the whole North Coast, from family fun in Seaside, walks along incredible Cannon Beach, to incredible ocean views from a hike up Neahkahnie Mountain. Place was great for a couples retreat. House and location were exceptional. I do think there was a mix up because we had no kitchen towels or hand soap. I’m sure it was an over site.

Really functional space from the bedrooms, parking, dry areas from the rain! And gorgeous views from the living room. Also loved the easy beach access trail right across the street.

The carpet was so stained and filthy I was afraid to walk on it with bare feet. We had no hot water from check-in on Monday until Wednesday morning. There was garbage from previous occupiers in the carport. The cold water valve would not shut off in one of the bathtubs. We effectively had no hot water for 40 of the 66 hours we were there and we were given a consideration via refund of approximately 25%. None of the four of us retirees has ever had a worse experience with VRBO.

- General cleanliness okay. Multiple carpet stains, grandchildren complained that tstains smelled of urine. Several chairs broken but functional.- Garbage cans outside were full and multiple bags of garbage on the ground around the cans. Notified local rental management. Was told Local garbage pickup would be Wednesday July 23 otherwise notify local rental management and they would send maintenance to pick up garbage. Pickup did not occur. Notified local rental management again. No maintenance crew was sent. Last day as we were preparing to leave, local garbage company came. - WIFI with Spectrum and provided equipment was terrible. WIFII was available from check-in (4PM) until 9PM. Then out until the following morning around 7:30M. WIFI would not reboot and provided NEITHER a WIFI signal NOR Internet. When the WIFI came on by itself, it lasted about 1 hour and then went away for several hours. Later in the day it came on a couple times intermittently. It finally went away on Wednesday afternoon and never came back for the rest of our stay. Our grandchildren are autistic and rely on certain Internet sources.We will NEVER rent from Meredith Lodging again. We recommend VRBO sever their ties with Meredith. We have a stream of texts that documents our communication with Meredith, their responses . . . but no action was ever taken by them.We have stayed in Gearhart or Seaside 4 times in the past 5 years (usually with VRBO) This is our only bad experience.

Good location, nice view of the beach with easy access on a path but a little distance. Nice layout. The kitchen was well stocked. The home is very dated. The beds were comfortable, and away from the living areas. There are stairs and the couches are lower to the ground which were difficult for a person with mobility issues. There are significant stains in the carpet (which appears in previous reviews). Had several other issues. The fireplace inside the home was not working and the one on the deck did not have gas so we had to take the tank from barbeque. The refrigerator was not cooling and the food we placed in there was getting warm, so we called the management company who responded very quickly and sent a person over to work on it and it did start cooling late. The internet and wi-fi went out on Saturday early evening and had not returned when we checked out on Sunday morning.

Good location

We enjoyed our stay in Gearhart. The location of the house was great. The interior really needs some updating - the carpets were badly stained and also a lot of the couches. The beds were comfortable but had only one very thin blanket. Some of the doors from bedrooms to patio didn’t lock. And the tandem bike in the garage has flat tires. (The teens were so excited to ride. ). Not sure if we would stay here again - maybe after it is updated (which the property manager said was in their plans).

Family clamming weekend

Top notch location and roomy sleeping quarters. Kitchen and living room far from bedrooms so that sleeping in was undisturbed by the early risers. Wonderful view of the ocean, and trail access right across the street. Plenty of parking for all. Dog friendly was great. Only complaints: Pre existing stains on the carpet were not pretty to look at and kitchen towels and rags were minimal. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Annual Family Trip

We had a fantastic time at this location. The weather was unseasonally warm and sunny. We all had a blast! Proximity to beach was incredible. The only thing I would say negative is that the kitchen could have better stocked. But we totally made it work.

Great spot for family holiday!

We visited this house for a combined Thanksgiving and 70th birthday celebration for my mother-in-law and it was great! The bedrooms are very nice, with great mattresses and the bathrooms are stocked with lots of towels. The house has 2 living room areas, which was nice for our large group to be able to spread out. The beach is an easy, short walk away and the neighborhood was really nice. Thank you!

Great family friendly spot!

We had the best stay at this house. It’s perfect for families!!! Big rooms, big entertainment spaces, and amazing views. It had a perfect beach cottage feeling to it too. Would stay here again!

Gearhart Rental

The view and location were great. The home, however is in very sad shape. I tripped twice on the living rug. Two ends were torn. It should be removed before someone gets hurt. The electrical outlets were very loose. I read in a previous review that the master bath shower faucet came off. It had not been fixed and came off for us. My grandchildren were happy to see bikes. The bikes were not in good shape and could not be ridden.

Awful rental - old, worn, dirty, and broken. In serious need of some maintenance, cleaning, and TLC.

I have never left a bad review before but this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a rental. The house has numerous safety issues: a rug that is completely frayed which makes it a major tripping hazard, a handful of outlets are loose/falling out of the walls, broken toaster with the inner heating coils sticking out, what looks like mold in a couple of the bedrooms, a bathroom mirror that is broken, a window is broken in the back bedroom (the mgmt company left a note). Beyond safety issues there are also many things broken: a bed that was completely broken/mattress falling through to the floor (unusable until we fixed it just enough for our stay), the stove only has two working burners (both on the left so you can't put two pans on at the same time) & the "5" button doesn't work on the oven, the back bathroom shower handle kept falling off when trying to change the water temp, dining chair has slats missing, and none of the showers drained well. There is also an obvious smell of urine throughout the house, and the carpets and couches have a nasty smell. The description photos don't show how run down and badly cared for this house is: the kitchen is very old and paint chipping, furniture has seen better days, worn out bedding, grimy bathrooms etc. On top of all that there was no gas to use the fire pit or grills that they advertised so strongly, and the tandem bike had a bent unusable wheel. Only positive is the ocean views. I do NOT recommend booking this rental!

Gearhart Retreat

Good Spot - plenty of room. Perfect for a group of golfers. Plenty of Parking. Outdoor patio and gas fire pit was great to hang at. According to on-line listing one more bed was expected. Range and oven was difficult to use and not all burners functional. All in all - would stay here again.

Great winter weekend getaway!

Our family really liked this home and the location! The house has plenty of room to spread out and relax. The bathrooms could use some updating (maybe raise the mirrors a little 😬), and several of the light switches/plugs either didn’t work or were too hard to figure out. And we couldn’t get the fireplace going either as the directions were not clear. All-in-all we enjoyed the property!

Beautiful view

This place has big windows with a beautiful view. Great trail across the street to access the beach. Property felt a little rundown. There were some rips in screen doors and a couple of windows that couldn’t lock. Super convenient location in a beautiful little town.

The only thing good about this property is the ocean view!

This home has filthy carpets....carpet edges that are ripped and a tripping hazard. The trash had not been emptied when we arrived and the garbage can was full outside so we had to use a neighbors can. We had to buy garbage bags to just keep up with trash that couldn't be emptied anywhere. The comforters were stained and had NO covers on them that could be washed at all. That seems a health hazard. The one king bed was unusable because it was propped up with firewood because it was a broken bed!!!! We rented a house for 10 people but you had a bed that was unusable so 2 adults had to sleep on the couch. All the propane tanks were empty so no one could sit outside and use the advertised fire pit. The bedroom in the back of the house had a non-opening patio door. I could go on and on about how disgusting this house is. The huge stains on the carpet were so gross and the smell in the fridge smells like rotten fish. It's amazing that you can cheat people out of their money to rent this place. This was a family reunion, we came all the way from Utah to experience this! The only thing that was acceptable about this house is the view of the ocean on the top floor and even that was diminished when we tried to use the broken telescope!!

Annual family vacation

Beautiful house. Carpets were filthy. That was very disappointing. Could have used one more spatula, only found one. I won’t rent again.

Nice view with dated house that needs a lot of work

When we arrived at 4pm to check in the house cleaner was still cleaning the house and said it would not be ready until around 5:30. At the price we paid for three nights, the house should have been available when promised. The house was not that clean as he was trying to hurry to get us in so we ended up doing cleaning ourselves, it looked like there was a blueberry fight in the house as we found berries all over, there will spills on the carpet and down the barstools, the recycle and garbage bins were overflowing, the bed in the room with the attached bath is broken and propped up with boards underneath, none of the beds were comfortable, there were only 2 dish towels in the whole house, there was only one full propane tank that we had to switch between the BBQ and the table fire, the house has a weird layout. The neighbors were very nice and Bob (the neighbor) was wonderful and friendly. We had many good chats with him and he hugged my husband when we left. That was a high point. We enjoyed the space on the deck as we hosted dinner for family staying at the condo's to the north. The view from the top deck was nice as well. We most likely would not stay here again as the cons outweighed the pros especially for the high price of the rental. Profits from the rental money should be used to update the house and make significant repairs. I would not recommend this place to friends.
