Stunning Ocean and Mauna Kea Views

This large and inviting home has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths on 2 separate living levels. Situated on a ½ acre back from the street, this home is private and landscaped with beautiful blooming tropical plants that Hawaii is certainly known for. Located in the ever popular Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision at Kaloli Point, this area is known for its sunnier skies and warmer temperatures.

The open and spacious living, dining, kitchen area that opens up to the tiled ocean view lanai is absolutely perfect for the guests that are traveling together. Upstairs are 2 generously sized bedrooms with 2 baths. The master bedroom has its own entrance to the tiled lanai and has a lovely stained glass shower for 2.

The downstairs area with separate entrance has 2 more bedrooms (3 queen beds) that share 1 bath.

And again, the 3rd floor observation deck or “widow’s watch” is pretty incredible! A popular romantic myth holds that the platform was used to observe vessels at sea. The name “widow’s watch” is said to come from the wives of mariners who would watch for their spouses’ return, often in vain as the ocean took the lives of the mariners, leaving the women widows.

Overall they enjoyed their stay. Quiet neighborhood except for the chickens and frogs. All the fans in place were used as the house is on the warm side.

Hidden Gem but needs some a little TLC

However the kitchen could have used some up grades with utensils, pots and pans. The fry pans were embarrassingly wore out. Knives were not sharp. There was no privacy in any of bedrooms no working blinds in any rooms. No waste baskets in the bedrooms. Not a lot room to hang clothes up in the downstairs bedroom. The fans supplied gave very little airflow and the entire house was stagnant.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall experience was satisfactory at best. We will not return. Once we arrived we discovered things we were disappointed with. Easy to find and close to walking trails that have people living off the land residing here and there. Some local residents have multiple dogs and some others have fences and a dog. Water is collected from a shingled roof, not metal. Leaching from asphalt shingles is undesirable but didn’t affect the water flavour. Buy bottled water.Plenty of towels for seven adults. Water service tag is one year old. Two set of sheets for each bed but no blankets for the cooler nights that we had. Good picnic cooler suppliedA local resident confirmed that there are a handful of drug production houses in the area and that all valuables should be guarded. No on site room-safe available. The vocal creatures are very loud frogs that peep all night. This chorus is augmented by three roosters on surrounding properties. The roosters start their ****-a-doodles at 4:30am. We all used earplugs for sleeping. If you’ve read this far and still want more comments to read; I will close this out with stating the rental fees were unreasonable high for this property. We booked this property because our previous location was became unavailable because of it sale to new owners.

Family holiday

We loved the house! It was great to have bedrooms downstairs where the younger folks (in their early 30s) could stay up later and us older folks (in our early 70's) could go to bed earlier. The open kitchen and eating area was perfect for family cooking together and setting up meals on the counter. The neighborhood is very walkable for morning strolls. Our contact, Jolanta, was very responsive and helpful.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: When we arrived we found dead bugs or bug parts in 5 of the beds and on the couches and chairs 1 bed had dirty sheets. There was sand under one of the beds. The downstairs smelled as if it hadn't been opened to fresh air in a long time. We contacted the property manager she said she had just been there the day before an was baffled about the dead bugs everywhere. She said well there is going to be bugs in the jungle environment. I understand live bugs but not dead ones in most of the beds. We did not stay. And trying to get a refund has been a chore because they are very bad at returning phone call or text messages.

Wonderful time

We had a lovely stay. Green geckos kept us company and we enjoyed having meals and reading on the lanai. The place was easy to get to and the whole family was happy with their accommodations. Thank you.

Family vacation

We loved the property it was perfect for our family of 8 plus my mother. It was clean and welcoming. Loved the lush landscape and proximity to the cliffs and ocean. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was perfectly stocked with basic necessities.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Very quiet location outside of Hilo. Huge house with 4 bedrooms and 6 separate beds in total. Lots of space to accommodate a large group. We enjoyed the well stocked kitchen and amenities such as the outdoor washer/dryer. Note the downstairs bedrooms (2) and bathroom are connected using the outside stairs.As others mentioned, the house does not have AC. Plan to arrive not too late upon your first night as the house was really hot when we got in. Once all windows/patio doors are open (and after sunset), house starts cooling down enough to sleep correctly. First night I though it was a mistake to have booked a vacation rental without AC as the house was still pretty hot, but following nights were more comfortable and, in the end, everything turned out OK.Cleaning was pretty good, except we noted one mattress shown traces of multiple old tiny blood stains looking like bed bugs had been found here in the past. This was a bit terrifying, but no bed bugs could actually be found on the mattress, on the cover and/or bed sheets when we got in. No one in our group had any issues. This mattress however, should still get replaced to avoid getting the fear of bringing any bed bugs back home...BBQ grills were also dirty and we ended up not using it. Only two beach chairs, two boogie boards for a big house like this was a bit surprising, but also ended up not using them. Overall a very nice stay.

A quiet, beautiful retreat

Exactly as expected. Quiet, clean, and comfortable with an off-the-beaten-path feel. A safe, beautiful neighborhood for walking and across the street from ocean cliffs with gorgeous sunrises. Thirty minutes or so from Hilo's amenities, but far enough from major roads to never hear traffic. Overall a great experience; I would stay again.

Loved the Place!

It was extremely clean when we arrived! My daughter, who is obsessed with cleanliness, commented on that immediately! It was lovely, airy and quiet, and plenty spacious for 8 of us family members, from ages 19 to 74. We enjoyed hearing the frogs and insects at night, but perhaps someone from a more urban environment might not. The occasional rooster?? Not so much. The outdoor deck was a great place to relax on the days some of us chose to stay behind. And only a few miles to a couple great restaurants. I would highly recommend this place for family gatherings and would certainly stay there again! Thank you.

Excellent Property for Vacation, and Rest in a quiet location

This is an excellent property for vacation and rest in a quiet location. We are looking for a beautiful property in a quiet place to rest, at the same time to do various famous Hawaiian activities. Even though this property is located at a bit remote location, we did not have any issues driving all over famous sites on Big Island. We are there for 7 days, and we enjoyed every moment especially the observation deck and walking on the black coastal bay near to the sea every day. This property is recommended to stay over a long time, at least for a week. This area has a beautiful landscape since this is a tropical rainy area, please be aware of that before renting. One thing that we wanted to suggest to the property manager- to put a washer/dryer inside a room (not outside). After day activities, usually, we want to wash our clothes in the evening, and we were afraid to run the washer/dryer in the evening/night that can disturb neighbors. Overall if you don't mind the frogs sound at night and are looking for a beautiful, quiet from human noises location, this is a great place to stay. Thank you property manager for this excellent, clean property and communication.

Great house!

While the home itself was good, comfortable and clean, the location was a bit remote. The lack of a/c meant we had to leave the windows open all night which meant the frogs were deafening making it difficult to sleep. If you are comfortable with heat or don't mind the frogs and are looking for a beautiful, out of the way, quiet from human noises location, this is a great place to stay.

Beautiful property in a quiet neighborhood

The pictures don't do the property justice! The house is so beautiful with high ceilings, windows everywhere, and beautiful gardens on the property. We also enjoyed the very short walk down to the cliffs where there are pine trees for shade and easier walking. We had so much space here to spread out. We loved the house lizard that kept the insects away. The only thing to realize is that it is hot in July. The mornings and evenings are great with breezes and windows that open easily. Fans also helped, but mid to late afternoon it was really too hot to be comfortable in the main living area. We tried to plan our outings so we'd be gone during that time. We did not mind the coqui frogs, but they did drown out any ocean sounds at night. Overall we loved the beautiful property and the quiet neighborhood. Hilo is only about 20-30 minutes away, and Volcanoes National Park was a convenient 30-45 minutes away. Just be sure to get groceries before you head out there if you plan to cook at all.

Beautiful house off the beaten path

I first want to say that the Hawaii Life team and our onsite manager were amazing! The property is in excellent condition and it is spacious. Upstairs you have the. master and a smaller bedroom and downstairs (separate entrance, no way to access from main part of house without going outside) there were two rooms with a total of 3 queen beds. A few tips we learned from our stay: We were a multi-generational family traveling together. What I was expecting to be a fourth bedroom was really the 3rd and 4th bedrooms separated by a closing door. Each room technically had its own access, but it was a less than ideal situation for the 75 year old grandma and her 20-somehting granddaughter/boyfriend. It is a setup that would work well for a large family, but does not afford a lot of privacy. The closest town is about 15-20 minutes away, and food options are pretty limited. We found a couple of small local places, fast food and a grocery store. Hilo is about 30 minutes and there are far better options there. Nothing is close enough to have delivery (at least what we found looking on uber eats!). The other thing to be aware of - the big island is BIG. It's about a 2 hour drive to Kona, 45 minutes to Volcano National Park. The beaches on this side of the island aren't really swimming beaches - with a few exceptions (The guide book could probably be updated, as we were unable to access a couple of the beaches recommended). As is typical in HI there is no air conditioning in this house - there are a TON of windows you can open and the hosts provide stand up fans. When we were there the daytime was a bit toasty, but evenings cooled off a bit. Sitting out on the porch was a nice way to cool off. None of these are negatives, but I do feel its good to set expectations. These factors did not diminish our stay at all. Our family had an amazing time and enjoyed calling this place "home" for a few nights.

Beautiful home in Paradise

This is a beautiful home and it is beautifully appointed. The construction and layout are great and the hardwood floors and tile deck are fabulous. Gorgeous towering plants can be seen out most windows. The home is quite large and would be a great place for a family get together. It is a ways out from Hilo, so be sure to bring the essentials when you check in. It is a perfect location for visiting volcanos. In our experience it is very unusual to find a rental home where you feel like spending time just enjoying the home and the surroundings, and this is one of those places! The deck is a wonderful place to enjoy the view and the breeze and have conversations or read a book.
