After a year-long restoration project, we are thrilled to present The Black Walnut. Enjoy a few days hidden away in our cabin - where every inch of this two-acre property has been lovingly and intentionally renewed to present an experience of modern comfort in a mountain hideaway.

About The Black Walnut

Prioritizing a pleasing and restful stay, you'll find our cabin equipped for the most discerning guests to be your home-away-from-home. Grab a latte at Broad Porch Coffee Co., or bring your favorite roast to the cabin and enjoy a french press or drip. A fully-stocked kitchen and outdoor gas grill present you with opportunities to cook in comfort; or, choose to visit one of the many restaurants in downtown Luray.

Enjoy the view of the George Washington National Forest through our many floor-to-ceiling windows while taking comfort in our mid-century styled living room. Our two bedrooms and a one of-a-kind, modern bathroom will house two to four guests comfortably. Enjoy the inviting fireplace while you unwind, or take in a movie on the flatscreen TV that supports streaming services via WiFi.

The outdoor amenities at the Black Walnut are just as inviting. Two private patios with plenty of outdoor seating provide you with options to take in the starlit sky. The cabin is less than half a mile from the Shenandoah River and a stocked fishing pond. Put in your canoe, kayak or tube at the boat launch, or you could begin your day with our friends at Shenandoah River Outfitters for a relaxing day on the river, located less than a mile away.

The Black Walnut is nestled around a variety of wineries, breweries and distilleries. Enjoy a glass of wine after visiting the Luray Caverns, or one of the many nearby hiking trails and return to comfort in our fully-equipped, newly renovated cabin. Our doors are open to you!

Please be advised you have rented a mountainous property. The main and secondary roads are usually paved. However, the driveway is a gravel or hard packed dirt surface. You may experience potholes, ruts, steep inclines, and rough terrain. Most front wheel drive vehicles have no trouble accessing their property from these roads as long as you drive safely and slowly. We do not recommend low profile vehicles such as sports cars or motorcycles. During inclement weather such as snow or ice you may be required to have 4-wheel drive or tire chains. We also recommend Travel Insurance during winter months. We do not give refunds for road conditions that are out of our control.

Nice Weekend Getaway Cabin

Clean, modern, and elegant cabin that is off the beaten path but still within a good distance to Luray. We enjoyed the indoor and outdoor lounging areas with plenty of nature to take in. The cabin itself is ideal to hang out in even if the weather cancels your other outdoor activities, and we were glad we chose this one over the many other cabins in Luray that aren't as inviting on the inside. The only con of this property is the hill to reach it is a little daunting and difficult to drive up, although this is mentioned in the check-in instructions.

Total cabin aesthetics ✨

Quiet, peace, fall aesthetics Came here for an extended weekend to celebrate my partners birthday. It was just the two of us and we had more than enough space. His end goal, chop some wood and make a fire and we did exactly that lol. Also, just 15-20 mins drive away from the city of Luray. With daily light savings time, we found ourselves leaving during the day and coming back to have dinner in the cabin.

Absolutely perfect

The stay at Black Walnut cabin was just the thing my wife and i needed. The architecture and decor of the cabin was a perfect mix of contemporary and rustic. The Host knocked it out of the park. The cabin is conveniently located near all the attractions but far enough away to be peaceful, private and perfect for star gazing away from all the artificial light. We can't wait to go back

Peaceful Retreat

Our family stayed here for a couple of nights and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. I love to BBQ so the equipped grill and equipment were perfect for us to enjoy the patio and grill every evening. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the property for an escape from the city.
