Hale Makai is a gorgeous home(cottage) on the west side of Kauai. The tranquil space was the perfect home away from home as we adventured around the island. The hosts did an amazing job communicating with us both before and during our stay, promptly answering and mitigating any issues we may have had. The home is beautiful, the hot tub the patio, the lanai, the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were absolutely perfect. The location of the cottage is perfect for a more quiet home space. It's across the street from a beautiful black sand beach, a short drive to many white sand beaches with many other adventures within a maximum 1.5 hour drive. If you like to cook, and even if you don't, you will find everything you need at Hale Makai. The kitchen is so well equipped it was a pleasure to stay home and cook our meals. Locally sourced beef, fish and coffee were our favourites. The sunsets on the west side just down the road we were told are the best on the island. Take a walk or quick drive to Kekaha Beach Park for the sunsets and views of the Ni'Ihua (the forbidden island). We hope to return to the island and to Hale Makai someday. Mahalo

We had sucha good time here! This was our first time in Kauai and we r happy we chose this sunny and quiet location. The house is super cute and they just updated their air conditioning. The hot tub was perfection. We liked to start our day as the sun was coming up with a good soak. The back yard is so perfect. The covered lanai makes it a perfect place to hang rain or shine, and the privacy was awesome. We loved the neighborhood. We felt safe, it was quiet and the people around us were friendly. The beach is a short walk away and there r a couple of little convenience stores just a few blocks away as well. We met Scott after a day or two of settling in and he was so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. We appreciated his communication throughout our stay whenever we had a question. We loved Allen, our groundskeeper- whatta sweet man he is and we loved chatting with him. If we could have made one suggestion that would have made our stay even better- it would be to have had a couple of gravity chairs for suntannig in the back yard that can be tucked away when we r not using them. If you are looking for a quiet low key small house with good access to Kekaha beach this will suit you just fine. Nothing fancy but all that you need. About a 3 minute drive to beach. One of the bathrooms is outside of the house in the carport.

We had a fantastic time in this well-situated and peaceful home. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys high quality living away from the tourist haunts

The house is beautifully built and well laid out. The air flow is lovely leaving us with a constant gentle breeze and rarely needing the A/C. The kitchen is well equipped and beds are comfortable. Being in a quiet, local residential area is always our first choice. Ans in Kekaha, we were in a great position to explore Kokee and Waimea State Parks, but for good organic food we needed to drive to Hanapepe, and we spent most of our beach time and dinners in Poipu and Lawai. If we come back to the south coast of Kauai, we would happily stay in this beautiful house again!

Everything was as advertised. The house was spotless when we first arrived, it was fully equipped with everything one could think of, including wake boards and umbrellas to use at the beach. The lanai at the front of the house overlooked the water, which was very close by. The beaches at this location are virtually deserted, there is never an issue with crowds. Patrick greeted us personally the first day we were there and indicated we could contact him at any time should the need arise. We truly hated to see the end of our stay. All in all, a very memorable experience.

What an incredible little VRBO! such an amazing location to cute little Waimea town with shops (including one where you can pick your coconut to drink out of!), Thai food, tacos, and more! the property itself is so nice, you may never want to leave! The backyard is big and beautiful, with an amazing outdoor shower and tub, patio area, and games. there was beach gear of every kind, and everything you need in the kitchen (including coffee!). they had bug spray, hand sanitizer - and what was really awesome for us - HIKING POLES! This saved our life when hiking up in Waimea, which is just 25 minutes away on an easy paved road.wish we could’ve stayed longer- would love to come back on another trip to Kauai!!
