  • Great place - loved it!

"The pictures online don't do it justice. This is the best condo we have ever rented. The finishings were top notch - beautiful travertine tiles line the floor and the stone in the shower was just gorgeous, not to mention the lovely paintings all over the condo. This place would be great for 2 couples as both bedrooms have king size beds, walk in closets, ocean views and insuite bathrooms with huge showers with rain shower head above as well as a shower wand. Having a washer dryer was nice, and laundry soap was even provided. Nancy has great taste and the decor is spectacular. The towels were lush Ralph Lauren and there were plenty as well as large colorful beach towels. In the closet by the door were beach chairs and floats which came in handy. We have stayed on Simpson bay twice before, but liked this location best as it was closer to Karakters (great to hang day or night) and the view is great since it is past where the beach curves a bit so you can see the mountain and lights at night better. We rented a car and usually spent each day exploring the many great beaches of St Maarten. We came back in the late afternoon and relaxed at the pool or took a walk on Simpson bay before getting ready for dinner. Some of our favorite meals this trip were Cugini (Italian) and the Greenhouse (casual outdoor beachside). We always walk to Atlantico Bakery for breakfast or pastries and have drinks at the yacht club next to the drawbridge once or twice during our trip. There are countless great restaurants in Simpson bay so you don't have to drive far at night for a great meal. We also love The Red Piano for music especially on Monday nights when they have a band. We also took a cataraman tour around the island on Spellbound with adventure sports sailing with snorkeling and lunch - it left from the yacht club. As you can tell we had a great trip, just wished we had more time to enjoy the beautiful condo. I would recommend it to anyone."

  • Perfect Week!

"My husband and I enjoyed a perfect week at Island Mermaid! The condo had everything we needed! The view was amazing and we loved watching the boats from the patio! Comfortable beds, spacious living, kitchen and patio areas! I can't really speak to the kitchen amenities because we didn't cook! This was a truly relaxing vacation! Gordon was very helpful with information, hints and tricks for living the island life for a week! We loved exploring the island and will be back!"

  • Gorgeous Views from this Condo in Maho!

"My husband and I stayed in this unit for 3 weeks over Christmas. The pictures of the unit are accurate. The size was plenty big enough for the two of us, it was clean, the bed was comfortable and the air conditioner worked fine. We did go and purchase 2 pillows as the pillows there were flat. Note that the description says that it is a “Lock Out” unit. There is a hollow interior door next to the small table for 2, so you can hear the people next door and smell their food when they cook (if there are renters in there). The bathroom was large, however, we had NO hot water for the first few days, of course when the property manager came, twice, there was hot water surprisingly! Apparently the hotel next door “Alegria” was working on the water lines or something, which affected the building that we were in. Given that there is a non-working elevator, this unit is on the 4th floor, so you get plenty of exercise in with all the stairs! There is also no internet service and you had to go over to the Alegria to use their Wi-Fi. We knew this going in, so it was not a problem for us. The views from the balcony were the best thing about this location!! We enjoyed watching the planes (it was always quiet after 6pm ish) and the cruise ships and large yachts!! We rented a car the entire time and explored the entire island! We took long walks to Simpson Bay; Mullet Bay; Cupecoy… Our favorite area of St. Maarten was Cupecoy! There is an excellent grocery store (Grand Marche) and next to that was an area that had several restaurants. We went to a few of those, which were excellent! We also liked having a couple of our breakfasts at the Green Monkey, which is located at one of the resorts or hotels in Cupecoy – they have a sign at the entrance! Note though that they are cash only! Good food though… We drove over to Marigot on the French side and took the ferry over to Anguilla for a day. We walked to the airport (15 minute walk vs. paying parking at the airport) and took a Winair flight over to St. Barts for a day. It was about $50 more to do this vs. the Edge ferry from Simpson Bay, so it was worth the extra money to take a 10 minute flight vs. a 45 minute ferry ride to St. Barts!! These were great trips!! Overall, we loved St. Maarten and we are returning in November 2016, but we will be staying in Cupecoy!"

  • Beautiful setting/great property.

"We benefitted from previous reviews and for the most part everything that was said was spot on. First a few negatives; parking is very tight, pool deck had screws that were raised (I was told they would be taken care of, as well as the grille which hadn't been cleaned in some time) and the gate to the beach wasn't always working, the entry to the ocean in front of the condo is rocky--but 100 yards down is perfect, the journey to get to the condo saw the higher end beach side and the mostly run down opposite side of the street--some chickens and dogs, but never bothered us. Now for the rest of it nothing but positive!! Gorgeous views from both levels. All sorts of boats parked in front and very few jet skis zipping by. The beach is pristine. We were there over Easter and never felt crowded. In fact, the mile long stretch rarely had more than 20 or 30 people in the water at the same time. Water is crystal clear--snorkeling is okay. Pool was also nearly unoccupied--we often had it to ourselves and at 5 feet deep was great from our 8 and 11 year old. Sunsets came directly to the outside patio attached to the condo. Gorgeous! The unit is very well maintained and has everything you need to cook in. Second floor master with the balcony is stunning. The four of us spent many a night sitting out the oversized couch and enjoying the breeze and the night view of the area. We arrived and had the tour given by Gordon--very helpful. We also had 4 cold beers and 4 cold sodas waiting in the fridge for us!! While it is only a short hop from the airport and a 10 minute walk gets you to some good restaurants and a little grocery store, we had a car and were happy to have it. Simpson Bay Beach is great--we also went to the far more busy Orient Beach and found it touristy, but nice. If you want to relax with great views, ocean and beach--you don't have to move an inch it is all there!! Atlantic Bakery (walkable), Beruit restaurant (walkable) and Palms (walkable) were among our favorite spots. I'm sure the issues I mentioned above will be dealt with--so I would recommend this property without reservation."
