  • Surf Sound Cottage is Idyllic

"We just spent a week at Surf Sound Cottage and found it to be idyllic. The cottage sits up on a hill overlooking John's Folly Bay, near the southeastern tip of St. John and is 10 minutes or so south of Coral Bay. It is a very quiet location and area, and there is a fantastic view from the porch of Norman and Peter Islands and of the beautiful sunrise each morning. The great beach at Saltpond Bay is just a few minutes away, where there is good snorkeling (we saw turtles there) and a really good hike out to Ram's Head. It is also close to good snorkeling at the Lameshure Bays (especially the western part of Great Lameshure Bay) and at Kiddel Bay, which has some of the best coral (on the western side) we have seen in this part of the Caribbean in many years (it's a bit challenging to find and get to, but worth it; plug Kiddel Bay into Google Map) . It's only a twenty- to thirty-minute drive to the North Shore beaches, which are spectacular. There are good restaurants in Coral Bay, so we found no need to do the 30-minute drive to Cruz Bay, which is much more crowded than the Coral Bay area. Good National Park hiking trails are also nearby, but we didn't get the chance to try them because we spent all our time snorkeling. The owners are extremely hospitable, helpful and responsive. And they have provided everything you could possibly need for your stay in the cottage. This is a fantastic place, and we would definitely return. One cautionary note: you will definitely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway (as the owners' information piece will advise), and it is a challenge to negotiate the driveway because it is steep and takes a sharp turn half-way up. but we were able to deal with it without incident."

  • Stunning!

"Such a wonderful home! Views are spectacular. Uniquely decorated and much larger than what the pictures depict. We spend a thoroughly relaxing week at Buddha Garden. You can't go wrong renting this space. Thank you, Ric and Lolita!"

  • Beautiful views at large hillside villa.

"I visited this house in march with two other couples. It was an amazing week, my wife and I wish we could have stayed longer. Its everything we wanted and more. The set up of the bedrooms and guest cottage worked quite well. I could see this house being perfect for large family gatherings. The downstairs rooms connect to a small play area. The master and guest suite are on either side of the kitchen. The guest house is down a floor next to the pool area. The house, patio, and rooms were excellently cleaned. That picturesque cliff view of the water in the morning will stay with me for a long time. I made sure the last day I got to see a sunrise from the patio, it was beautiful. The kitchen is a dream to cook in and they keep a well stocked pantry with all the spices and condiments you could need. We celebrated a birthday and it was a breeze cooking rib-eye steaks on the grill and they provide grill utensils. Appliances were on the newer side and in excellent working condition. The outdoor showers I think were one of my favorite parts. After a long day at pristine white sand beaches. It was a nice feeling to take a cool outdoor shower to clean up before dinner. The house is an incredible destination, but like any vacation on St John, it is up to you what kind of vacation to have. St John is a place to unplug, incredible beaches on the island, so much to explore. My favorite beach was a toss up between Trunk and Maho. I didn't get a chance to go hiking but that is on my list for next time. The local restaurants on the coral bay side offered good food for decent prices. I think Cruze bay eateries are over rated and so far away to not be worth the trek. No consistent cell service on the island, but why would you want it? At the house you could get connected if you wanted to, it has an internet phone for calls to the main land, and a local phone for calls on the island. Consistent Wifi connection in the kitchen, upstairs bedrooms, and patio. The one caveat is I would warn guests about the driveway, it is easy to miss and unpaved. It really isn’t a problem with the typical jeep wranglers people rent on the island. I plan on returning to this gem of an island. Remember you can’t drink all day on the beach, unless you start early."

  • The best location in Coral Bay!

"Sara was wonderful to deal with. She stays in touch before arrival to make sure that she is in sync with your plans. She greeted us upon arrival (the place is easy to find using her directions of turning around at Miss Lucy's and 1st drive on the left). Coming from "town" is definitely and easier approach into the driveway but once you've navigated it a couple of times it isn't a problem. The home is off the main road but once you are up there, it feels more remote. The lovely views from the deck are mesmerizing! The sound of the surf and the ever changing scene across the water were our favorite things about this spot. The apt itself is perfect! Spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable - the photos really don't do it justice! There are wonderful beaches all around the quiet East End. The bumpy 4WD road to Lameshur is intimidating but nothing your Jeep can't handle - and its definitely worth the drive to get out there. We split our trip between 2 locations - here and Cruz Bay and highly recommend doing so. We'd absolutely recommend this place and hope to return again ourselves."
