  • We thoroughly enjoy our time in San Mateo.

"We have been to this property several times and it suits us perfectly as a way to escape the Canadian weather. We particularly enjoy listening to the Ottawa morning radio show via internet and hearing reports of -25 deg. weather back home. The accommodation is great. The property is very well maintained and Dona Carmen comes in regularly to clean the casita. The owners are very helpful and friendly and willing to correct any problems that occur immediately. The property is in a rural setting so you will need a car to get around. The location is perfect for touring the countryside, going to the beach or visiting San Jose."

  • Exceptional Attention

"We have just completed a great week with Hisano and her elegant Momma at Casa de Meguimi. Hisano was extremely attentive to our needs and we wanted for nothing. We had the Orchid suite with balcony overlooking the pool, flower gardens and ultimately the mountains in the background. The Town of Atenas is 5 km away and offers most services you would need including restaurants and grocery stores. Thanks to Hisano's help we had a rental car and did several day trips. It was a delight and honour to have spent a week in this beautiful place thank you Hisano for sharing your Casa what with us."

  • Casa Doughty- Amazing

"We stayed at Casa Doughty during the week of Thanksgiving, 2015. There were 7 people in our group ranging in age from 16 years to 77 years old. This place was exactly as described and perfect for our family and friends. My main concern was for the 77 year old (my mom). My mother had a slight stroke a year ago and stairs can be tricky...as well as floor rugs. Casa Doughty was very easy for her to navigate, both inside and out. The grounds and pool are beautifully maintained. The inside was very clean and the kitchen was equipped with anything you may need. We ran into one slight problem regarding a car rental. However, a quick email and one phone conversation with Steve and Diane quickly had the matter resolved. Atenas and Casa Doughty are perfectly situated for having a "home base" and having access to many other places. We visited volcanoes (Poas and Arenal), went deep sea fishing in Jaco , visited beaches (my favorite was Playa Dona Ana where we were able to feed Capacin monkeys), toured a nearby coffee plantation and enjoyed the city of Atenas. In order to do these things a rental car is a MUST. Yes, driving in Costa Rica is different from driving in the states, and usually takes longer due to road conditions, but it is hardly the nightmare some have alluded. A good GPS (usually provided by the car rental agency), a wee bit of caution and common sense are all that one needs to successfully navigate Costa Rican roads. I would highly recommend Casa Doughty!"

  • Nice Stay in Tambor

"We were here 4 weeks and had 28 straight days of perfect weather, not a drop of rain and great temperatures from the mid 60's at night to the low 80's in the afternoon. As our arrival was pretty late at night Victoria arranged for a driver Francisco Molina, to pick us up at the airport and her sister was there to meet us at the house and go over all the details. They were all very accommodating to our late flight. Francisco was bilingual, professional and punctual and proved invaluable to us the first few days and I would recommend him to anyone traveling in the area, especially if it is your first time here. Victoria's home was very clean and just like described. We were working from the house via computer about 1/2 the days and the internet proved to be very reliable. A little slow but adequate for our VOIP phones. Traffic was the same as any big city but you have to watch out for the motorcycles. The home is located near all types of shopping & dining locations including the big new mall so all the necessities are near by. This was a great central location to visit other parts of the country and our trips included Playa del Coco, La Fortuna, Jaco, San Ramon, Atenas, Heredia, Grecia. Everywhere we went we met friendly helpful locals. The produce market every Saturday was one of our favorite stops. We felt completely safe at the house and everywhere we travelled and wouldn't hesitate to go again. Also bilingual and very helpful was Carlos Ramirez Gomez at Payless Car Rentals by the airport. He went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. Victoria checked in with us about once a week to make sure all was well. I would return to her home in the future and would recommend it to anyone traveling there."
