  • Fabulous Vacation Home in Tuscany

"We just returned from a wonderful week at Borghetto Calcinaia, a beautiful place to stay in eastern Tuscany with delightful and welcoming hosts, Gilly and Dennis . The property is as gorgeous as depicted in the photos on the site; it is located in area that is easy for day trips to hill towns and other cities in Umbria and Tuscany. And knowing that a large pool with a tremendous view of the Tuscan countryside awaits you whatever your plans for the day, adds to the enjoyment of the stay. But what really makes Borghetto Calcinaia so special is Dennis and Gilly. They have an ability to make complete strangers ( like my husband, myself and our five traveling companions) feel like old friends. They are incredibly helpful and generous of spirit: fresh baked local bread deposited on the kitchen table each morning, making reservations at small local restaurants and then escorting us up through the back roads to be sure we found the places, a warm, freshly baked tart by Gilly set out for us after a long day, and always being available to answer questions. And yet, for the week we stayed there, we all felt like we were in our own private paradise. Each of the four bedrooms had its own private full bath, lovely views and comfortable beds. The kitchen was well equipped although Dennis and Gilly will arrange to have local chefs come up to the house and cook for you too. If it is possible to enhance the beauty of the surrounding area, Gilly has done so with her well loved and kept gardens. As my husband and I got in the car to head to the Rome airport for our return home, we both agreed- it would have been wonderful to stay longer."

  • Step Back in Time

"The Anghiari countryside was just breathtaking with views reminiscent of an Italian painting. The rolling hills, the mist , the walled village and the beautiful trees with brightly colored leaves all blended to give a picture of striking beauty. The home was lovely and served our group of four lovely ladies well. While we had planned to take day trips to various to towns, we found the home so relaxing after travels in Venice and Florence that we mostly explored locally. We enjoyed a day at the Ravagni Olive Oil site with Francesco just on the outskirts of Anghiari where his family has been pressing olives since 1421. We explored Anghiari itself and found a little church where the first mention of it was in a will dated in 1105. Be sure to try the wild boar ragu on tagliatelle at one of the local restaurants in the old city. Truffles? We spent a day on a truffle hunt in Umbria. Pigs were outlawed in 1985 so the leaders now use specially trained truffle dogs. We followed these dogs as they sniffed and discovered the hidden treats and their master dug with a special truffle tool to discover the hidden delights. We cooked our dinners in the beautiful gourmet kitchen at the farmhouse - except for the night we used the outdoor oven to make our individual pizzas. Topped with local mushrooms and other delicacies we purchased at the farmers market, these were mouthwatering. Marcello was extremely helpful and replied to my text messages promptly whenever I had questions. It was convenient to have the washer, dryer and dishwasher available and we used them often. I would highly recommend a visit to this outstanding villa in Anghiari ."

  • Taste of heaven

"What a special place - impressive views, pure nature and great customer service. I met a dear american friend there and I have to say: That was my best Tuscany experience. Many historical sights and delicious food just near by. And the cottage itself is historical, very authentic and shows the owners appreciation of beauty. Thank you for sharing this place with guests!"
