  • Absolutely Perfect!

"We have rented this condo for a month, four years in a row. It is absolutely perfect which is why we keep coming back. In fact, it has begun to feel like "home" to us. The condo is huge with plenty of room and every amenity for a large family or three couples traveling together. We hosted a large party this trip (18 people) and had plenty of room for entertaining, seating and serving. The location is ideal - just up the escalinata (stairs) to El Centro (the old Spanish colonial part of town) with its shopping, services, markets and many restaurants from a $2.00 almuerzo (lunch) to an upscale dinner with candles and linen tablecloths. Or walk in the other direction about a block to Parque de la Madre for a jog around the track or just an enjoyable rest under the trees. Another couple of blocks past there is a SuperMaxi (large American style grocery store) and the Cuenca Deportivo soccer stadium. Everything you need is within easy walking distance. You can travel to other parts of town for a $2.00 to $2.50 cab ride. The owner, Carolyn Walker, is great to work with, as is the American couple living in Cuenca that she has assisting her with local needs. We highly recommend Casa Rio for these reasons as well as for the reasons other reviewers have mentioned."

  • Wonderful home with beautiful gardens, great views, and an excellent host

"We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in Vicky's beautiful home. The home is located in a quiet section of Quito (Conocoto). It has good access to the highways... we were able to take day trips in our rental car from the home to Otavalo, the next day to Cotopaxi, and the next day to Papallacta (hot springs). It was very nice to return to a lovely quiet home after our day trips. Vicky has created a genuine oasis from the city on her property. The grounds are wonderfully landscaped with gardens and trees and the views of the city below are beautiful, especially at dusk. The property is behind walls so it feels very private, secluded and secure. There is a lovely pool that is heated by a solar heating system, so it was always 85+ degrees. There is also a ping-pong table, a hammock, and lots of space in which to relax. The home itself is large, comfortable, and very nicely decorated. It has all of the features you would want including three bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, good WIFI, TV (don't really need it), hammock, outdoor tables and sofas, and more. Vicky lives on the property in a separate home. We definitely had all of the privacy we wanted but we very much enjoyed getting to know Vicky as well. She was able to give us advice about traveling in the area, finding groceries, etc. All in all, we highly recommend this home for couples, families (our 8-year old loved this home), groups of friends, etc. It is affordable, convenient, very pleasant, and has a wonderful host in Vicky."

  • Beautiful Place To Stay

"This condo was the best place to stay at in Quito. It was clean and well maintained. What you see in the website, is exactly what you get. We were there to attend our daughters wedding ceremony and my family and I were so happy and content that we have every intention of rental this property for future return vacations to Quito if it is still available. Central located, blocks away from the main strip. It was accommodating to the entire 7 of us. The only thing we encountered was that not more then one shower could be used at one time, water pressure was low, but that wasn't a big deal at all. We made schedules for everyone and it worked out just fine. The view was the best, every morning looking out and seeing the sunrise was beautiful. I would recommend this to my friends and family that would like to visit. I would like to thank the Almond family to allow us to stay in your home, and make us feel comfortable with your place. Looking forward to making reservations with you in the future. The Shirk/Fernandez/Tupiza Family"

  • A perfect home base on Santa Cruz!

"My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed four nights at the Torre Mar in late May of 2016. Donna and John were terrific from the first contact through finding us the best way back to the Baltra airport. They even arranged for our driver to stop at some of the attractions in the highlands on our way into Puerto Ayora! We found everything to be as advertised. We loved the rooftop terrace for grilling and dining on fresh local seafood or getting to socialize with some of the other guests in the evenings. The views were fantastic! We loved the central, neighborhood location. It was a short walk to Charles Darwin Avenue, a bakery, the Saturday market, the popular outdoor "restaurant street", and the head of the trail to Tortuga Bay! The truck-taxis are certainly abundant, but we enjoyed walking. The beds were very comfortable, and having separate remote controlled air conditioning for each bedroom was a definite plus. For two families with children, both second floor apartments would be a nice setup. We would definitely go back!"
