  • Amazing riverfront stay in a charming Gold Rush-era cabin

"We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the Miner's Cabin. Heidi and Steph were great hosts. They were easy to reach before our trip when we had questions or asked for recommendations, but during our stay, our privacy was completely respected. The cabin itself was rustic and full of charm, but fairly well-stocked. We imagined what the cabin must've been like before it was restored – How many miners would live here? Where did they sleep? These days, it's a great retreat for those who don't expect an immaculate, luxurious, tech-enabled hotel stay when they're out in the woods. That means small, creative spaces (a shower and toilet sharing the same space -- no sink; a steep ladder to a lofted bed; no stove, but a microwave and toaster oven, and a grill on the outdoor fire pit) and of course, pretty spotty wi-fi and cell phone connection. We appreciated the free long-distance calling on the landline, and for the most part, that we could almost completely disconnect from the world for a couple of days. We – and our Formosan Mountain Dog, Benny – also greatly appreciated that the cabin is dog-friendly. We came to Trinity County to get away from city life and hit the nearby hiking trails. We visited Whiskeytown Falls on the way to Douglas City, meandered some of the Weaver Basin Trails, and drove through the Trinity Alps, but we could've easily just spent more time sitting on the Adirondack chairs on the Miner's Landing at the cabin. From this little piece of heaven, we watched the olive green Trinity River rush by, as well as the many birds, butterflies, and other wildlife that call the area home. We cooked meals in the fire pit and sat by the glowing logs as night fell. On our last evening at the Miner's Cabin, we spied a majestic bald eagle perched in the treetops of a nearby pine (Fortunately, we had brought binoculars). A magical ending to a magical weekend."

  • Secluded, but not remote, an ideal location

"We enjoyed our February stay at the Ranch. It's just far enough out of town to give you seclusion, but close enough to the Douglas City general store to compensate for anything you forgot. Between the frogs in the pond and the geese in the field, you're serenaded day and night in the most delightful way. The house is more spacious than the pictures indicate, comfy, and clean throughout. And the private access to the river is ideal, with plenty of other nearby public access points to the water. I expect to stay there again."

  • Great cabin right on the river

"This is a very cozy cabin right on the river. We came up here for some R&R and we got what we hoped for! Our dog loved it, too."

  • Delightful Woodland Retreat!!

"First timers, not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised. Cabin had plenty of space for all 7 of us, included 77 year old active grandma! Enjoyed having coffee and a bagel on the rear deck every morning, actually had the privilege of seeing a dear pass through the property one morning. Kitchen was fully stocked with plates, pots, pans, coffee machines, everything you use at home for daily living. Having 3 kids and spending lots of time at the river produces lots of dirty clothes but it was a breeze because I was able to do my laundry at the cabin. We had dinner together every night which was wonderful because when we vacation at hotels you tend to eat out a lot which can be very expensive. Also, hotel continental breakfasts are during certain hours, at the cabin, after a long night playing games and just enjoying family time, it did not matter what time we woke up, we were able to have our coffee and bagel at our time! Trust me, our family has done it all, camping in tents, hotels, motels, rv's....this has it all beat!!! You want a real restful vacation away from the crazy city life, looking for peace or a place to unwind.....look no further...you have just stumbled on to a little peace of heaven!"
