  • Excellent historic cottage in great location

"Our family of four stayed at Karla's over New Year's 2015 for a ski vacation. As other's have mentioned, the location of the cottage is fantastic if you wish to be in town. It was a short walk to the shopping, restaurants and bars of Elk, and the town bus stopped at 3rd and Whiterock, which is about 25' from the front door. We used the bus every day to the ski area and it was super easy, even for our 8 year old in his boots and carrying his skis. The local grocery store is only 3 blocks away, along with the liquor store. We didn't use our car the entire trip. The house is small, but you should expect that from an historic mining cabin. The kitchen is very well provisioned and the owners have done a great job decorating. It gets warm in the 2nd floor loft when using the wood stove, we had to crack a window. Alpine Getaways, the rental agent, is great, highly recommended."

  • Great views, excellent place to spend time in CO

"Some friends and I stayed in this home recently and it was such a great time that I'm wondering why I posted a review almost a month later. The home itself is very tastefully decorated and is nestled in a gorgeous part of the mountain with expansive views of the valley below and the hills around. Nice, quiet neighborhood with a large deck which is simply perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktails. Soaking up the views is so easy and only a few short steps away from the dining and cooking area. Speaking of the cooking area, what a treat. The range, oven and fridge are pro-grade and easily handled the cooking chores we put forth for our large group. The kitchen and bar area is perfectly suited for entertaining and cooking and keeping things social and lively. Loved it. Also enjoyed the complimentary bottles of wine that the owners left out for us. Nice touch. The sleeping accommodations are nice and there is plenty of room for people to get a good night's rest. The master suite is of course well done, but there is plenty of room for other adults and kids too. No shortage of beds in this place. For entertainment, the ping pong table and games are perfect. And the audio system in the house allows for some music in just about every room. TVs too, but we didn't really watch TV. If you're more into grilling and hanging out on the deck for entertainment, you will not be disappointed. The gas grill is ideally situated for good views as well as serving logistics and the deck furniture is pretty nice. The wooden captain's chairs and high-top table are super cool. Overall the rental experience was very easy and the accommodations were perfect for an early season biking getaway trip. If you are looking for something that is an upgrade over town accommodations and has room for you and your friends to spread out and get relaxed, this is a great place to consider. Highly recommend. Have fun."
