  • Amazing place!

"My wife and I stayed here for seven nights for our honeymoon which happened to be over New Years and we couldn't have been happier with how it turned out! The driveway was maintained well even with all the snowfall the area had already received. The patio area was a great place to enjoy the view of the snow-covered woods and mountains in the distance with the outdoor fireplace turned on. The indoor space was the perfect size for a couple and looked great and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our own food. We drove to Wolf Creek ski area a few of the days and it only took about 30-40 minutes which was great. The best part of all though was Darlene! She lives upstairs but we rarely heard her. A few times you may hear her footsteps but not enough to be bothersome. She is also extremely kind and helpful. On the way back from Wolf Creek one day we slid on the hill near her house and got stuck in the snow drift on the side of the road (as an inexperienced driver in snowy conditions I still had the car in a higher gear and relied too much on the brake to move slowly down the hill). After a few failed attempts at getting the car out I called Darlene and explained the situation. She arrived in her SUV after just a few minutes with a shovel and tow rope and was able to pull us out after I shoveled enough snow to get the tire free. She was very kind the whole time and didn't act like she had been bothered. This place is just off the main road in town and close to all the main attractions in Pagosa Springs but once you get to her house you'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere which was perfect. I absolutely recommend staying here and will hopefully be back."

  • Amazing home! A beautiful place to spend a family vacation!

"There were 13 adults ranging in age from 24 to 86 and two little ones under two who all thoroughly enjoyed our week in this beautiful place. Everything about it made it an ideal place for our family vacation. The home is clean, spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished. I loved the art work in every room. The kitchen was a fun gathering place with the large island and equipped with two ovens and everything we needed in meal preparation. The huge round dining room table was one of the many things we loved about this home. The game room was a popular place for the young people and a great place to relax for all of us. There are many activities and fun things to do which our family enjoyed such as: fishing (the lake is close by), horseback riding, mineral hot springs, train ride in Durango to Silverton, shopping, museums, tubing, rafting and beautiful scenic drives. We have a few runners in the family, so they enjoyed the early morning runs. The two restaurants we enjoyed were Boss Hogs and Marconi's in town. This was our 29th annual family vacation and our first in Pagosa Springs. I cannot say enough about how this home exceeded our expectations. The owner, Heidi, was so encouraging from my very first call to her when we were exploring possibilities for our family vacation this year. Her helpfulness and sweet spirit made this an unforgettable experience. The caretaker, Jim, was also very helpful and attentive to any questions we had. Winslow on the Shire is truly a great home and I recommend it for anyone looking for a vacation rental. Claire Eberhart"

  • Great Home!

"The entire experience from communication with PA (Randy) to getting into the cabin and checking out could not have been easier and more perfect. Home was as advertised and pictures accurate. Great cabin for our group of 9 and we stayed a full week. Would use PA again in a heartbeat and stay at Sunset again for sure!! Thanks David (Texas)"

  • Effortless Peace.

"This was our first stay in this cabin and we loved it. It is very well set up , beautifully decorated, covered porch on 3 sides. The cabin feels much larger than it looks in the pics, the master bath was huge! The open kitchen design helped everything flow very well and you could watch the hummingbirds as you clean up.We came to day hike mostly, and were not disappointed, we did V-Rock to the summit, which you can see from the porch. DirectTV on a nice new flatscreen for evenings. The internet worked fine for me and 3 kids with various devices and the huge table set up an awesome couple of meals and breakfasts. Just fabulous. Our only downside on the trip was the groceries in Pagosa Springs. We only found an old store in town without much selection. Maybe someone else knows a better place to stock up? We also wish we had hiked more off of the back of the property, again the pictures do not do it justice, stunning valley way down below with a winding creek, it was beautiful. We are working on a plan to try a winter visit. Thank you Ken for a cozy well thought out cabin."
