  • Well-deserved five stars

"We stayed in Gini's cottage for three weeks in March. All the reviews below are spot on. It's clean, spacious and very comfortable. Nice linens and bedding too. The kitchen is well-equipped and provides lots of room for two cooks. Located in a beautiful and quiet residential neighborhood, the cottage is a short walk into Madison and beaches. While the cottage is on the owner's property, it has a private setting surrounded by woods. The owners are not in the least intrusive unless you need something or have a question. Madison is one of my all-time favorite coastal towns. It's laid back and friendly, with a wonderful art cinema and independent book store. There's a fairly new walking trail from the town to Hammonassett State Park and beaches, which is lovely. Hope to return soon!"

  • Best stay of our trip. Absolutely perfect.

"My friend and I did a cross country motorcycle trip and this beach house was the best stay during our trip. It was perfect, private and better than expected. The owners were wonderful."

  • Perfect in every way

"My husband and I and our four sons wanted some real family time before half of the kids jetted off to college. We explored a number of properties in western Connecticut. The innkeeper for the Amselhaus was incredibly friendly and communicative from the very start and we felt welcome before we even walked in the door. Once there, we felt instantly at home. I can honestly say I have never stepped into a vacation rental and felt as instantly at home and comfortable. We stayed in the north house which was perfect for our family. There were fresh cookies for all of us, coffee for the making in the morning, all the kitchen items one would need as well as a book of information about where we could eat out and activities we could take part in in the area. We sat on the porch and watched the river, the kids played croquet and "chilled out" in the living room watching old Sponge Bob episodes in the evening. (We don't have cable TV at home so this was a treat for them....even the older ones.) Every part of the trip was made special by the accommodations. And the review written about the comfortable beds were right on. We slept in absolute comfort. We are all looking forward to coming back again and my husband and I are entertaining the idea of an anniversary trip for just the two of us. There are many great activities to take part in including Kent Falls down the road and a mining museum. There are restaurants and even some that deliver to the Amselhaus. If you are looking for a comfortable place to come with family or just for a couple, I can not rate this place more enthusiastically. My only fear is as word gets around about this gem, we wont be able to book it."

  • Great place to stay

"Had a wedding in nearby saltwater vineyards. The hotel the bride and groom picked in nearby mystic was very expensive, so I figured why not a house for a week? The view is wonderful. Sunset is great, a short walk to playground, and the stonington beach is about a ten minute walk. You are close to all restaraunts (noahs, milagros, water St cafe, and dog watch). Fourth of july, we just stayed on the third floor and watched three different fireworks shows. Parking is street parking, but always found a spot. The house is old, as the owner states. They said kids are welcome, but I was a little uneasy with our three year old. The balcony is great, but I can see our kid falling off. But it turns out she was ok. Under three, I wouldn't feel so comfortable. The set up is weird. They give us three beds, one queen, one full, and one twin. When our friend visited with her two kids, she shared the queen with her kids. Either my wife slept with our kid on the full, or I did, and the other took the twin. If you anticipate having two families, this may be tough because the beds are so small. I would suggest to the owners to get bigger beds. The place is old, so expect squeaks and what not when you walk. Didn't bother us though. The furniture is old and antique like. Its charming. The owners are extremely nice and helpful too. When staying on the third floor, use the elevator. Those stairs are killer. Overall, would come back again."
