  • Nice, quiet stay

"Columbia Heights has become a nice place to stay. There's a lot of good, affordable restaurants and activity in the area. I don't think anybody even needs to take the Metro. It's pretty centrally located and Uber and Lyft rides aren't usually more than $10 depending on where you're going. Grocery store is close by at about one block and a half. The mall is about two blocks. Our stay went pretty smoothly but I always felt the ownership was readily available if something did go wrong. We would stay here again."

  • Great place to live like the locals

"We spent five nights at the Carriage House, and really enjoyed our visit. Ken Kimbrough is a genial host, and he thought of every detail that could make our stay more comfortable or enjoyable. The central location provides a great starting point for sight-seeing, and we also enjoyed shopping and eating in the Market area on 8th. Highly recommend."

  • Good apartment for families!

"This apartment worked out really well for us! We had the benefit of 2 queen beds in the same room (for families with young children who don't want to sleep in a different room), plus a small kitchen, and an extra room for my aunt who came with us. You do have to walk through the small bedroom (which also has the washer/dryer) to get to the bathroom, as other guests noted. Also, as per other reviews, we had problems with the washer/dryer taking forever (and we wished there had been better instructions), problems finding the keys to adjust the thermostat (which is in the hall), and some minor problems getting our questions answered from the person who helps with the apartment (it would have been nice to have received the wifi info over email, since the book with that info had been removed and placed on the first floor in the hallway - which we didn't discover until day 2). Other than those minor issues, the kitchen worked out great for a breakfast of eggs and/or cereal each day before we left, the proximity to a grocery store was a big plus (and cute restaurants right near by that we are sad we didn't get to visit). The neighborhood felt very safe - lots of people walking around. We did rent a car, which worked out well for us, though parking late at night was sometimes a challenge since you have to find a spot. (The permit, which you must arrange with the property manager and pay $20 for, only allows you to park in the neighborhood... there is no guaranteed spot.) It took us 20 min. to drive to the mall - and parking there was around $20 for the day. It gave us extra flexibility and worked out well for us since we were a group of 5. I would recommend this apartment, and I would stay there again. You can also talk to Lois about paying through paypal to avoid vrbo's new annoying fees - which I really appreciated."

  • Wonderful apartment - great host!

"My wife and four kids stayed for 5 days. First up the host Jo is wonderful. She's great at being in communication, met us at the apartment and got us settled, left us a lovely welcome pack and was happy to do anything she could to help us. The apartment was as described in it's listing. It was very comfortable with a well stocked kitchen. Located in a lovely area, the apartment was very clean and towels and linen were all fresh. There was a small convenience store around the corner. We felt very comfortable. The only point I would mention is that it's a 15 minute walk to the Metro from the apartment which towards the end of our stay became a little exhausting for the kids so thats something to keep in mind but otherwise this is a great apartment and if we visit Washington again Jo will be our first call."
