  • Perfect.

"My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful vacation at THE BEACH HOUSE. It is as nice as the pictures and more. We lounged on the back deck taking in the scenic views and watching dolphins. Very relaxing and fun. We also explored the island on the golf cart, watched sunsets and met nice and friendly people everywhere (good people at Barnacle Phil's and food is very good). Our host (the owners)made our preparations easy. Thanks S. We'll be back. No cars, lots of fish."

  • Had a wonderful stay in Captivation

"What a great beach house to rent! Our party of 10 (6 adults and 4 children) spent Thanksgiving week in this beautiful home. The ground floor level was a big hit for everyone, especially the kids-swimming pool, darts, ping pong, satellite television, lots of comfy seating, a hammock! Having a bathroom and shower downstairs was great for washing sand off your feet when returning from the beach. The extra refrigerator was much appreciated, with groceries for 10 being brought to the island! The bottom floor (bedroom level) was nicely appointed and very spacious. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably. The upper floor (kitchen and living spaces) is huge! It's nicely decorated and we really enjoyed having two seating/lounging areas. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our Thanksgiving dinner. There were board games and playing cards for us to use, which was fun. We were astounded by all of the deck space-our favorites were the porch swing and the "crow's nest", which was perfect to watch both the sunrise and sunset, as well as stargazing at night! The property is beautifully landscaped and backs up to nature preserve land, giving the property extra privacy. We had use of two golf carts during our stay, which was wonderful to make quick trips to get ice cream at Barnacle's or Piña Coladas from the beach bar. The nature Trail was very close to the house, and the beach is a short walk or golf cart ride away. Staying at Captivation was one of our best family vacations to date. We would highly recommend this property-not only is the house fabulous, but Sarah, the realtor, and Duncan and Laurie, property managers, are very responsive to any needs or issues you may have. They all helped make our stay over-the-top wonderful. North Captiva is a great place to visit-we saw manatees, bobcat tracks, gopher tortoises, lots of birds, and tons of dolphins! *At night, be sure to go to the beach and run your hands through the wet sand at the shoreline--you'll see lots of bioluminescent algae-tons of little green sparkles in the sand and water!"

  • Truly Island Getaway

"We really enjoyed the beautiful island, all the descriptions and reviews of North Captiva were accurate and worth the travel. The wildlife and surrounding beaches and vegetation were lush and wild, so don't expect any nicely landscaped properties. We saw large turtles, the manatees that lived in the harbor, birds, etc. Wonderfully quiet and dark at night with just the sound of the ocean waves crashing. Watching the small planes take off and land right next to our house. Definitely a peaceful and relaxing place. Our home was exactly as described and in great condition. My only concern was the large bee hive in the back corner (not sure how long thats been there) and we had some confusion about the internet password which could have been more clear. I also wish the "lounge chairs" on the deck actually reclined back....they were a bit uncomfortable and I really wanted to nap on the porch :) Maybe add a hammock?? As for the NCIC customer service, I felt like it was mediocre. We had a lot of challenges arriving for our scheduled family vacation due to Hurricane Matthew. I called a couple times to see what my options were, and the people over the phone weren't overly helpful. Basically, if I couldn't make it, we were out of luck. I was told "that's why we offer travel insurance and you chose to decline it". In a terribly stressful time, with cancelled flights and my entire family in South Florida, with the uncertainty of the nature of the storm, I was hoping for a bit more compassion and understanding. When we arrived, it took a really long time to retrieve our luggage. We took the ferry service that "drops your luggage at the door", but I would have rather just placed it on our golf cart so we didn't have to wait forever for our food and clothing items. (The highlight of our service was when my sister left her entire luggage back in her vehicle. CJ took her keys and got her luggage on the next ferry in the morning!) I wish someone would have given us advice or warning about: 1) Red Tide - dead fish EVERYWHERE, 2) Noseeums - biting bugs everywhere 3) Where on the island you can get direct access to the beach. We were not clear on which streets led us to available beaches and a lot of them we found were "private". We also called a couple times about our internet, and it took 2 days to finally get someone to come check it out. All the amenities of the NCIC were good, but nothing outstanding."
