  • Wonderful

"Our extended family of 5 adults and 1 child recently stayed at Manatee Haven. The owners and local property managers were all easy to work with, and the house exceeded our expectations. The house is well-equipped throughout (beach chairs, towels, toys for kids, pool toys), we were supplied with ample basics (e.g., paper towels), and the kitchen was better equipped than any I've stayed in such that we were able to cook a significant number of meals without a problem. The house is also well stocked with basics such as spices, ketchup. The island was relaxing - nice beach walking opportunities, fun boat trip excurions (we did one to Cabbage Key and surrounding areas), and the house had plenty of fun activities for all family members. The only thing I'll note is that for those not as comfortable with stairs (elderly, young), the kitchen, dining, and family room are on the top floor, where the bedrooms are on the floor below. We were fine since there was an elevator to be used, though it did make things less convenient for those needing to take the elevator. Not a big deal at all, just important for those who may have limited mobility to know. Of all the rental houses I've stayed in, the owners of this provided far more advance information with details on how to get groceries to the island, what to expect on the island in terms of restaurants, etc. plus tons of details. There was nothing I didn't know in advance that I needed to know."

  • North Captiva-hidden island oasis!

"My wife, two daughters, my brother's family of 4, and my parents (10 of us total), enjoyed our stay at Moondance. It comfortably slept 10 people with the 4 kids in the two twin bedroom w/trundles, and the three adult couples took the other three rooms. The kitchen was well-equipped, and the home was nicely furnished. The heated pool was kept at a steady 84-85 degrees during our entire stay (which is important as it remains in the shade the majority of the day). The unit came with two golf carts, and all the beach chairs needed to enjoy the beautiful beach areas of the island (where we spent most of our days). The only downside (if there actually had to be one) was having to take a short golf cart ride to the beach access points (which our family enjoyed the experience of). Also, the crow's nest deck on the top of the house provided true panoramic views of the island and the surrounding waters including the Gulf of Mexico and the Intercoastal Waterway. We utilized Island Girl to ferry out, and we were welcomed dockside by the very friendly owner who had a trailer in tow to haul our luggage and groceries to the house for us while giving us a lay of the land tour. The elevator in the home was an added bonus when unloading the luggage upon our arrival, and would benefit anyone needing wheelchair accessibility. We utilized the on island boat rental place for two days to explore surrounding islands, and to grab lunch elsewhere (which is not necessary if staying on the island). We also highly recommend Barnacle Phil's Restaurant and the ice cream shop above it. There were dolphins everywhere on both sides of the island, and the national park on the southern part of the island was an amazing and exhausting walk to the other end of the island. I don't recommend doing it in flip-flops and younger kids. LOL The feeling of being removed from large amounts of people, and a friendly island atmosphere radiated through my mind the entire week. It was a very relaxing and quite vacation. My entire family ALL walked away from the vacation and said that it was the best vacation by far of any that we have taken over the past 12 years together including stays at Captiva Island, various points in the Florida keys, Marco Island, Longboat key, and others. I would highly recommend North Captiva, and Moondance is a beautiful LARGE home for the price."

  • Perfect Relaxing Getaway

"This was our first trip to North Captiva, and we had a wonderful time. The house was perfect for a relaxing getaway. We brought our two small children and my parents, and were all comfortable in the house. If you are looking for a place to bring small kids, this is the house! It was fully equipped with all the kids toys and baby items you could need! The owners, Wendy and Mark, could not have been more helpful. They helped us plan for and arrange our trip so that we had everything we needed, and went out of their way during our entire stay to accommodate us. We loved North Captiva and this house!"

  • Exceeded our Expectations!

"We loved it here. The location is perfect and the amenities plentiful. The cottage was very comfortable for 2 people and very clean. The photos in the listing are accurate, but it's even better than it looks. We enjoyed exploring the island and admiring all the houses in our golf cart. Kayaking in Safety Harbour was easy. It's so much fun.The kitchen had everything we needed, but believe the listing, that the groceries on this island are practically non existent. Don't be afraid to bring lots of food to the cottage. The ferry folks load it on for you and take it off. Barnacles is good, but how many meals can you eat there? Be prepared to make your own breakfast and lunch. No restaurant is as nice as eating at the cottage. We ate most of our meals outside overlooking the water. The lounges and chairs had cushions so it was very comfortable for eating, reading, bird watching and napping. The host is on the island and is available to answer questions and help with anything you need."
