  • Beautiful Sunrises

"We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay in this spacious, nicely decorated home with its wonderful ocean view. The location north of Hilo provides a quiet, peaceful get-away but is convenient to attractions such as Akaka Falls, Waipi'o valley, Pahoa and Kilauea Volcano Park. The three of us were very comfortable. We enjoyed the tropical garden and especially the beautiful sunrises each morning. Hale Hamakua is a very good value for the price. One tip: I would suggest stocking up on groceries in Hilo before you arrive."

  • Love this house!

"This is a great historical home located right on Hilo bay. The king size bed in the master was comfortable and our kids each had their own rooms. The views inside and out are incredible as is the property itself. Our kids spent hours finding frogs in the backyard. Keala was amazing and helped us get settled despite our very late flight. We will absolutely stay here again!"

  • Very warm and welcoming property

"We beyond enjoyed our stay at this house we had 2 separate reservations here during our stay in Hawaii. From the very beginning Marie was very hospitable. Even with the main house right next to us we still felt like we had our own place, it was very relaxing and the amenities provided were more than enough We are looking forward to next year's trip and hope to be able to stay here again Stefanie"

  • Hulili Farm Cottage was delightful

"Madeleine and Todd Loewen are wonderful hosts who respect their visitors' privacy. We were warmly welcomed with a loaf of banana bread made with bananas from their farm. The cottage has a lovely lanai and a spectacular view of the farm/ocean. Ripening banana bunches hung from a nearby tree and we were invited to 'help ourselves'. We also were invited to pick fresh lychees from the lychee orchard and they were delicious! Madeleine and Kai (their sweet dog) gave us a golf cart tour of the property. My favorite features of the property that I haven't already mentioned are the rocking chairs on the lanai and the suspended 'daybed' where I took an epic nap! There are many wonderful sights in and around this property. Akaka Falls is not to be missed, and there is a wonderful park, Kolekole Beach Park that has falls and a stream that flows straight into the ocean. We took a whole day at Volcano, Hawaii and it was super. The little town of Hilo has a wonderful restaurant for breakfast, Conscious Culture Cafe where we enjoyed a cherry kombucha for breakfast! And we had grilled octopus at Pineapples--the lychee margarita is delicious. Madeleine, Todd, thank you for you aloha spirit. We highly recommend this little gem to anyone visiting the Big Island.
