  • Our first Hawaiian home

"We booked for two months (Aug & Sept) because we were in the process of buying a house in Hilo. The location was perfect due to its proximity to main streets & shopping. The apartment was clean, spacious, comfortable and well furnished. Ingrid & Amon were friendly & helpful - we were given fresh pineapple & bananas from their garden on our first day. During our stay we received fresh Jabodecaba juice & jelly, papaya, oranges, lilikoi, mac nuts & starfruit, all from their garden. I couldn't imagine staying at a hotel or a tiny condo during our house-hunting. When we moved into our house, leaving our "Iwalani apartment"was like leaving our first home. I definitely recommend this "home-away-from-home" for those staying in Hilo for more than a few days."

  • Beautiful, modern home on the ocean!

"We had a wonderful week at the property Jan 20 to Jan 27, 2017 with myself, husband and two kids (ages 5 and 7)! House is beautiful and modern, just as portrayed in the pictures!! Loved the wooden counters! We loved the oceanfront location. Master bedroom is located on ocean side of house and we enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves every night. We were pleasantly surprised by the large elevated area of old lava flow at the oceanfront. Great place to watch the waves. We liked the quiet location. Drive to Hilo is about 30 min and to Pahoa about 15 minutes. We ended up driving to Hilo 2 nights for dinner, wasn't a bad drive and better food options than Pahoa. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed to prepare breakfast daily, supper 2 nights and even Birthday brownies for my husband! Lots of pantry staple items left by previous guest if you forget something at the store. Beds and pillows were comfortable! Perfect layout for a family or 2 couples with 2 bedrooms plus "office" with futon and 2 full baths. We are particular about cleanliness and had no issues with the house. As every review should have negatives.... Be aware that the pool is not heated. We know few pools in Hawaii are heated, so likely would be the case anywhere you stay. We kept the pool covered to conserve heat. However we were there during what was likely one of their coldest weeks of the year, so pool was 76 degrees. Kids didn't mind and swam anyways! Also humid area and lots of rain when we were there, so as no air conditioning in house things didn't dry out well. Again, air conditioning is rare in Hawaii would also likely be case wherever you stay. Just be prepared to switch out to fresh towels during stay and may need to use dryer if you wash clothes. We loved our stay! Thank you to Rick and Sandy for sharing your piece of paradise with our family! Would not hesitate to stay again if back to the Hilo area!"

  • Paradise? Absolutely!!!

"I hope I can accurately describe how much we enjoyed this beautiful home during our vacation last week! The pictures don’t do it justice; they can’t begin to convey the feeling of absolute tranquility we experienced. We loved it! From the minute we walked through the front door into this Shangri-La, the beauty floored us. We entered into an atrium filled with tropical plants, a dining table set on stone pavers, and a gorgeous view of the palm-filled backyard pool, outdoor dining and lounge area beyond. We have never experienced a house with split architecture like this; it is truly indoor/outdoor living at its most wonderful. The best surprise awaited us at the top of the spiral staircase in the atrium – a little open-air room looking out over the ocean across the street. We had breakfast at the table here every morning watching the gorgeous sunrise, and we enjoyed our happy hour on the bar stools here at night. Lovely! If you can bring yourself to leave this paradise, everything you can imagine is provided for an excursion – bikes, folding chairs, ice chest, even a fishing pole and tackle. We loved biking around the friendly neighborhood and along the beach road. We even saw two whales breaching when we stopped at the end of the Ala Kai at Paradise! In addition, we love to cook, and everything we could ever want to prepare our meals was provided in the kitchen as well as a propane grill and charcoal barbecue out by the pool. There is a natural food store in Pahoa and a Foodland market in Keaau for groceries. The closest restaurants are about 20-25 minutes away. Our favorite restaurant for a nice dinner is Paulo’s in Pahoa; be sure to try his homemade pasta and bring your own wine (no corkage fee). Downsides? Not that I can think of. It may not be an appropriate property for families with young children because the bedrooms are in two separate buildings (which makes it perfect for two couples). The location is central to sightseeing, but also away from town in a residential neighborhood, so it’s a 20-30 minute drive to anywhere – Pahoa, Keaau, Hilo, under an hour to Volcanoes Nat’l Park. We like this, but others may prefer being closer to amenities. Stephanie (the owner) was very responsive to our inquiries, and she is available to answer any questions that might arise. We absolutely LOVED our stay at Palm Tree Paradise, and we can’t wait to return again and again. Mahalo, Stephanie, for an experience we will never forget! Susan and Dave"
