  • Perfect location and love the amenities package.

"This was our second time that we stayed in this condo and the fourth time that we stayed in the Kumalani condos. We are a family of 5 and we really appreciated the extra bed. The condo is very lite and airy . The kitchen was well stocked for preparing our meals. We typically hit Costco and make most of our meals while we stay. Our family really likes the Mauna Kea beach and the amenities package allows us to convienantly use it. The condos are nice, quiet and peaceful. The golf course is beautiful and we enjoy walking or running on it early in the morning before the golfers get started. We love leaving the windows and sliding doors open while we sleep and feel very safe doing so."

  • Great Place!

"My family of 5 (including 3 teenaged sons) stayed here for four days on a recent trip to the Big Island. I have no idea why anyone would stay at the nearby hotels. This place was awesome! Great location, beautiful property, well appointed accommodations, responsive and friendly hosts - this place had it all. We loved having some of the comforts of home (like a kitchen and washer/dryer) while enjoying all of the trappings of a resort vacation. Cannot recommend this place more highly."

  • A little bit of paradise

"We spent four days at the cottage and never stopped marveling at the jaw-dropping view. Tucked away at the end of a long driveway, privacy was complete. The cottage, as others have noted, is old (70's I would guess?) with furnishings of the era, but we wouldn't have it any other way! The effect was comfortable and sweetly nostalgic, with an overlay of Hawaiiana that is perfect for the place. The bed was comfortable and the cottage was very clean. We love to cook and were pleased to find that the kitchen was well-equipped with the basics. The only thing we would recommend adding is a charcoal grill. Since we cooked in most nights, we did not explore the limited dining offerings of the immediate area, but found the market in Honoka'a completely adequate for our needs. The little craft shop and Waipi'o van station on the road just before you arrive at the cottage carries the wonderful local Tropical Dreams Ice Cream-- a must eat! We drove to Waimea (not close, but not far either) for Sunday brunch at Merriman's, which we highly recommend. The Hamakua Coast is gorgeous, but not filled with "attractions". For the most part, we were content to explore the small towns and coastal access points. The Waipi'o Valley, the Pepe'ekeo Scenic Drive (along with the Onomea Bay Hike), and the Hawaii Tropical Botanic Garden were places we especially enjoyed. We also took the Hawaiian Vanilla Company tour, which was low-key and nicely done. (We would recommend touring in the spring when the vanilla plants bloom.) The lunch items, all made with vanilla, were delicious."

  • great place - friendly people

"The house was a perfect location for us and exactly as described. The only problem we had during our stay was one night when the neighbor's new dog barked all night. Other than that, the house was perfect, and Gemma' hospitality was wonderful. I would highly recommend the house - I look forward to staying there again when I come back to the island."
