  • Great Location and great amenities

"Just got back from two fantastic weeks at Mele Kai @ Kahalu’u Beach. Two years ago we stayed at the property next door, Hale O Makai, also owned by Simmy and Michael with a smaller party of five. This year we needed more space to accommodate 6 adults and 3 children under 4 and were lucky enough to rent Mele Kai. Not only are all the pictures and descriptions spot on, Simmy and Michael are wonderful to work with and truly go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. If you don’t see something that you can’t live without, mention it to Simmy and she has always been able to accommodate. Lots of equipment for beach going including boogie boards, coolers, umbrellas, and currently beach chairs with shoulder straps so you can really load up for the day. There were toys galore for the little ones for both land and water. The wading pool shared by the two houses was really appreciated in the heat of July to cool down. The lanai is the highlight of the house and she has a little child gate to close one end so the kids didn’t get away from us. I know the nearby amenities are listed with the house amenities, but I want to push them all anyway since they are just as important as the house. There is shoreline access almost directly across from the house with a tiny sand area and, depending on tides and experience, you can get in the water there, but it is a rock entrance. The sandy beach park is 4 minutes walk away…or 7 if you meander looking at the flowers and great water views between the houses on the way. Kahalu’u is a great beach park with multiple water entrances and depending on the tides a nice little pool forms below one of the lifeguard stands, great for sitting and playing with little ones in the water while gentle waves wash through occasionally. There was also a food truck with snacks and the all important SHAVE ICE! Turtle viewing from above and below water is almost guaranteed. When I was coordinating this trip with multiple families I used Google Earth to show them distances and where the sand was. This location and rental was exactly what our large family needed with plenty of private/quite areas for those needing naps or less family time! Already repeat customers and Simmy will be the first person we contact on our next trip."

  • Awesome

"We really enjoyed the condo. The location is great. If we are able to use beach chairs, mats, etc. Perhaps a note telling renters what they can use. My husband and I weren't sure so we didn't use anything. A great place to stay. Thank you!"

  • Amazing Visit, AS ALWAYS!

"We are repeat visitors and everything exceeded our expectations once again! Gail's condo is paradise indeed! The location is perfect - right across the street from an amazing snorkeling beach. The condo was beautiful and very clean. We especially enjoyed having our coffee out on the lanai every morning. On this trip we enjoyed scuba diving with the manta rays (highly recommended!), star-gazing at Mauna Kea, and a trip to visit the waterfalls on the Hilo side. Our kids, ages 8 and 10 had a blast surfing with Kahalu'u Bay Surf and Sea. Ben, the owner, was so great with the kids! I just love the Big Island and Gail goes above and beyond to make your experience memorable. Make sure you ask for Gail's fun "to-do" list! I can't wait to plan my next trip!"

  • Your Beach View Home.

"We found this condo very comfortable and it exceeded our expectations. It was larger than we expected from the photos. We loved the wall of greenery on the next property that made it so private and was home to a great variety of birds we enjoyed watching. We had many meals on the lanai taking in the spectacular ocean view. It was great to have beach chairs etc available for our use. Ali'i Drive was very noisy during the day but quieted at nite.... a small price to pay for such a beautiful location across from the beach. Comfortable king bed and great to have 2 very nice and spacious bathrooms. One minor caveat: not in a gated condo complex, make sure doors are locked in eves & at night and car is empty. Overall, terrific condo!"
