  • Great place to stay!

"House was good size, shower and bedroom are large. The house is decorated nice and has all the amenities needed. Fully equipped kitchen, great internet and cable TV. Location was fantastic, right across the street from a top snorkel beach and can see the ocean from all floors and listen to the waves all night. Close to restaurants and shopping. The shopping center just down the road has everything you need, including a prompt care in case you need stitches. Will definitely stay here again."

  • Great Location and great amenities

"Just got back from two fantastic weeks at Mele Kai @ Kahalu’u Beach. Two years ago we stayed at the property next door, Hale O Makai, also owned by Simmy and Michael with a smaller party of five. This year we needed more space to accommodate 6 adults and 3 children under 4 and were lucky enough to rent Mele Kai. Not only are all the pictures and descriptions spot on, Simmy and Michael are wonderful to work with and truly go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. If you don’t see something that you can’t live without, mention it to Simmy and she has always been able to accommodate. Lots of equipment for beach going including boogie boards, coolers, umbrellas, and currently beach chairs with shoulder straps so you can really load up for the day. There were toys galore for the little ones for both land and water. The wading pool shared by the two houses was really appreciated in the heat of July to cool down. The lanai is the highlight of the house and she has a little child gate to close one end so the kids didn’t get away from us. I know the nearby amenities are listed with the house amenities, but I want to push them all anyway since they are just as important as the house. There is shoreline access almost directly across from the house with a tiny sand area and, depending on tides and experience, you can get in the water there, but it is a rock entrance. The sandy beach park is 4 minutes walk away…or 7 if you meander looking at the flowers and great water views between the houses on the way. Kahalu’u is a great beach park with multiple water entrances and depending on the tides a nice little pool forms below one of the lifeguard stands, great for sitting and playing with little ones in the water while gentle waves wash through occasionally. There was also a food truck with snacks and the all important SHAVE ICE! Turtle viewing from above and below water is almost guaranteed. When I was coordinating this trip with multiple families I used Google Earth to show them distances and where the sand was. This location and rental was exactly what our large family needed with plenty of private/quite areas for those needing naps or less family time! Already repeat customers and Simmy will be the first person we contact on our next trip."

  • AMAZING condo with GORGEOUS views!! (Please read if you have mobile babies though!)

"We had two families stay in this penthouse condo, with 5 people in each family, so 10 people total. This condo was perfect for our small family reunion! Absolutely amazing views! Everything we needed already stocked (and some we didn't know we needed!), including all kitchen supplies, extra toiletries, extra games/cards/binoculars, sand toys, extra beach towels, laundry detergent, and more. Parking was underneath the bundling, and a breeze. We were close to White Sands beach, and a great snorkeling beach, less than two miles from each. Close to downtown, but not close enough to be loud, or get into all the traffic. We used the facility pool, outdoor grills, and outdoor lawn areas. We also enjoyed looking through the tide pools each day when the tide was out. Holly was beyond helpful! When I asked her about a pack'n'play for my baby, we showed up to not only a brand new pack'n'play, but also, a brand new stroller! As wonderful as the condo was (we watched sea turtles from our very LARGE lanai every day), I do have to give a caution to families wanting to stay here with very young children. We had a baby (20 months) who is mobile, and I was not comfortable with her on the lanai during our entire time. She couldn't reach the top of the barrier, but the slats were wide enough that she could put her leg through. Since we were on the 4th floor, I was very worried! The barrier outside the condo (around the rest of the building) was worse, it was even wider! If you have older children, our next oldest was 6, this won't be a problem at all, it just was a concern with our baby. So, if you are taking a very young child, like less than 3 years old, I would caution you about the condo's lanai and building barriers."

  • Perfect for Our University Student Group Spending a Week on the Big Island

"Our university group stayed at the Lako house to accommodate our group of 21 while we were studying geography on the Big Island. The location was great -- not too far from the local shopping where we bought groceries, etc. Our students loved the house -- it gave them a chance to bond while the professors stayed in the ohana suite. We are already working on our reservation for next year. Great staff, beautiful home, and a few minutes from the ocean."
