"My daughters and son paid all expenses for me to celebrate my 70s birthday here. We loved this place and had a wonderful time. Plenty of towels and bedding, along with all the other things promised. We were grateful for the extras, like the little cooler and the boards. Though the rental is a little worn as far as needing paint touch ups, you need to expect that near the beach. My daughters and I loved the roominess and clean, comfortable beds especially. There were condiments and basic spices, etc., along with food items that were fresh. The owner left us a basket of breakfast snacks and coffee too. She is very friendly and helpful. The walk to the beach was short and easy. We watched the sunset on Sunset Beach almost every night. There was plenty of hot water for showers, but each person needs to wait until the other is done due to affecting the water pressure if two tried to shower at the same time.. It wasn't a problem for us. Little geckos kept the mosquitos away. We only saw a few bugs and ants--just needed to keep things in the fridge and sealed in containers in the cupboards. The only drawback for a couple in our party was the roosters waking them up at three and four in the morning. It was later on the days it rained (4:30 a.m.). We kept our windows open, so we could hear the neighbor's dog started barking each night at bedtime, but it wasn't a problem for me personally. We only used the air conditioners for a short time one evening to cool because of the high humidity from the hurricanes we arrived between. The fans were enough through the night the rest of the time as gentle breezes blew through the windows. If you want a true tropical experience, stay here, but go to the crowded city hotels if you cannot handle a few inconveniences of animal noise. At least this place is far enough off of the road where the traffic noises are not a problem and the surf can still be heard. We had fun with the chickens and a old stray cat that visited (though we wouldn't let it in the house). We named the cat Meowee (it didn't really meow or bother us). Clothesline, outdoor shower, hose and washer and dryer were great helps. This place is well stocked for cooking and lacked nothing in the way of convenience. We got my birthday cake at Ted's bakery and it was very rich and delicious. This place is central to everything. Don't miss the Polynesian Cultural Center or Temple and Visitor's Center! Thanks for the fantastic memories!"

  • Great for families

"Our family of five stayed at this location for two weeks in August. We could not have had a better experience. Craig was very available, as many people have mentioned. If you needed something, he took care of it. He was pleasant to talk to you, and just had lots of information to share. The unit itself is stocked with everything you would need to cook, clean, and just live. The pots and pans were great, he had Tupperware for storage, a cooler for day trips, spices, and even a few condiments. For outdoor activities, he had boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, sand toys, beach chairs, and the list went on and on. We were a family of five, with three boys ages 13, 13, and 11. It was a little bit tight sleeping, but that was made aware to us well in advance. Two of the boys slept on the futon, and the other one on the foldout mattress on the floor. All were very comfortable. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom, which was nice during our visit, as the heat and humidity were very high. We did not need it every night though. The location of the unit is great, right on the North Shore. It is a no-frills type building. You get a prime location, at a great rate. There are two televisions, for those that need it. We were there during the Olympics, so that was nice to be able to watch that at bedtime. Our kids loved watching the geckos and lizards that are all around the property. Really a neat little addition. Having laundry facilities about 100 feet away was great for doing laundry during our extended stay. If you like staying at the four seasons, the Ritz Carlton, or fancy hotels, this is not for you. This is true island living. Thank you again Craig for being so hospitable, and making for a great family vacation."

  • You will not get better than this!

"My wife and i celebrated our thirty third wedding anniversary by making first ever trip to Oahu from our home in NZ We stayed for a week on the North Shore at the Hula House and were blown away by the beauty and peacefulness that is so definitive of this spot. We were rocked to sleep with the sound of the surf and gentle winds through the windows left open (no bugs or mosqitoes!) The Hosts were superb. So friendly and accommodating with very prompt communication and helpful in getting us through the preliminary arrangements. We were looked after as if we were royalty. I was super blessed to get a really great week of surf at Sunset Point and the host (great surfer and very humble guy) even helped me with local knowledge on the break and heaps of hints in negotiating one of the worlds most awesome surf breaks . We loved riding the bikes every day, swimming at all the sheltered spots close by, drinking Kona coffee (yummmm!) and having the most relaxed and soul restoring holiday ever! We would love to come back next year and bring our whole family."

  • A sizzling hot beauty!

"Beautiful! The property was private, clean and nice. Very spacious and comfortable. The location was perfect for us. Next to a beautiful beach and walking distance to the food trucks at Sharks Cove. Also the nearby grocery store Foodland was right there too. The only thing, I would've thought it would be air conditioned. It was only the use of electrical fans that provided any air movement at all. This was not enough. With the humidity and four flights of stairs up, you are in a complete sweat most of the time you are staying there. Otherwise the place had all of the details and amenities you could ever need or want. The landlord was very nice and accomidating. I admit that I never mentioned to him anything concerning the heat. If I had, he probly would've helped out. I would definitely stay there again and be very happy."
